[break]
DIONE VOKES[break] Mother, Deceased (Aged 43)[break] Human/Ungifted [break][break] Dione was almost forty years old when she had baby Tawny and, only a few years later, she was bedridden with a terminal illness. Most of Tawny's memories of her are colored by her sickness. As a little girl, she was afraid of her mother's frail, sickly state and would do her best to avoid her at all costs — sprinting past her room, never looking her in the eye, and hiding under her bed whenever her father would force her to spend time with her. She died just before Tawny's fifth birthday. [break][break] When Tawny grew older and discovered her Gift, she learned a lot about Dione from her father's memories. Before being completely ravaged by her illness, Dione was a wild, temperamental, and spirited woman. Chaotic and flighty. Very popular in high school and college. Outspoken. Always the life of the party and the loudest voice in the room wherever she went.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
FRANKLIN VOKES[break] Father, Deceased (Aged 62)[break] Human/Ungifted [break][break] A gentle, conflict-averse, and soft-spoken sweetheart. Franklin was almost forty years old when Tawny was born and made a single, widowed parent before his daughter even started school. The loss of Dione completely devastated him. They'd been together since high school, raised two children together already, and he was simply incomplete without her. They'd done everything together. He lost himself in grief. And threw himself entirely into parenting little Tawny, compensating for her lack of a mother by trying to be everything to her. He was a helicopter parent — overdoting, overprotective, always present, demanding all of her time, smothering her, etc.[break][break] Tawny was resentful of this as a child but, as she grew older, she slowly began to understand that her father really just needed her, because he'd never been alone. Was somewhat pathologically codependent. And eventually, she became complacent in filling that lonely void of his. They became very close. Did everything together. He's very much the reason Tawny has complicated, avoidant feelings about serious relationships. Not only does she fear losing someone the way he lost Dione, but she never wants to be to anyone else what she was to her father. Nor does she ever want to need someone as bad as he needed her.[break][break] Much like Dione, Franklin ended up bedridden at the end of his life. Unlike how she'd handled her mother's disease though, Tawny was there for him. Always present. Until she accidentally erased most of his memory. He died a few weeks later. Tawny was twenty-two.

EMELI COOPER[break] Brother, 44, Whereabouts Unknown [break] Gifted: (?) [break][break] Emeli was the first-born child to Dione and Franklin. He was nineteen when Tawny was born — already out of the house and fled Los Eurosia. Tawny has only met him twice in her entire life — once at her mother's funeral and again at their father's. So he is very much an enigma to her. More stranger than sibling. However, there are a few things she's learned from the memories of Cooper and Franklin.[break][break] As far as Tawny can gather, Emeli was a troubled and angry child. He was Dione and Franklin's introduction into the world of Gifted and, while Tawny has never been able to truly pinpoint exactly what his Gift is, she knows that it oft caused heated, angry arguments between him and Dione. They butted heads a lot and there was always tension when the two were in the same room. Emeli got into a lot of trouble and didn't come home many nights.[break][break] In the year before Dione died, Emeli had a daughter. Dione begged to meet her grandchild before she passed but Emeli maintained his distance. There is no Sector file on him.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
COOPER "COOP" VOKES[break] Brother, 42[break] Human/Ungifted [break][break] He reminds Tawny a lot of their father — gentle, conflict-averse, and a bit of a pushover. [break][break] Cooper was born a couple of years after Emeli and seventeen years before Tawny. By the time Tawny could walk, like Emeli, he was out of the house and moved cities away. Unlike Emeli though, Coop is far less of a stranger. He came back home usually every other holiday and was in constant contact with Franklin between visits. Despite this, Tawny didn't really get to know him until he moved back to Los Eurosia to take over the family's bed and breakfast and soup kitchen when Franklin got sick. [break][break] Coop was quick to start a family when he left Los Eurosia. He has five children with his wife, Elise, and his eldest daughter is only about nine years younger than Tawny. Tawny spends most holidays with them and comes over for dinner/family outings a lot. She's gathered that Cooper keeps some vague tabs on Emeli's whereabouts and happenings but that their relationship has always been strained. Cooper has requested that she won't seek any information about him in his memories. [break][break] Cooper and his family live in their childhood home.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
ELISE VOKES[break] Sister-in-Law, 39 [break] Gifted: TBD [break][break] Cooper's wife. She reminds Tawny a lot of the Dione she saw in Franklin's memories. Very opinionated, outspoken, and strong-willed. Used to having the last word. Will bulldoze in arguments. A big hoot. Flirty and fun. Keeps Coop on his toes and doesn't let her kiddos get away with much. She is Gifted and not a fan of Tawny's work with the Sector. Believes that a safe world for her children (many of which are Gifted) can only be achieved once their existence is accepted. She's a fiery mama bear. Tawny and her get along very well though and do think of each other as sisters.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
ANDREA "ANDY" VOKES[break] Niece, 22, Wherabouts Unknown [break] Gifted: (?) [break][break] Emeli's daughter. Only four years younger than Tawny. Tawny doesn't know the slightest thing about her other than she's Gifted.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
POPPY VOKES[break] Niece, 17, Student [break] Gifted: TBD [break][break] The eldest child of Coop and Elise. She's a smart girl with a good head on her shoulders. Is about to graduate high school (one year early) and enter college completely on scholarships. Wants to go into politicking and is huge on activist movements and humanitarian projects. She and Tawny have a strong relationship. Poppy has "run away" to her apartment more than a couple of times when Elise and her get in fights. They often talk about high school, boys, and whatever else she doesn't feel like divulging with her mother. She's nice and sweet most of the time, but can get really riled up and defensive when it comes to injustice and the like. Thinks of Tawny as an older sister almost. Prone to taking on too many projects and stressing herself out.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
MILLIE VOKES[break] Niece, 15, Student[break] Gifted: (?) [break][break] The next child of Cooper and Elise. Is into a lot of the things Tawny did growing up like dance and volleyball, so Tawny is kind of her biggest fan when it comes to sports/recitals/games/etc. She's a very shy and introverted girl. Feels like she kinda disappears in Poppy's shadow and the two are very often on bad terms with one another. She's a huge tattletale and can be sort of manipulative when she wants to be. Terrible at setting any boundaries for herself. Hard for her to say no.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
EVELYN VOKES[break] Niece, 13, Student[break] Gifted: TBD [break][break] Kinda never grew out of the terrible-two stage. Foul-mouthed. Gets in a lot of trouble and is almost perpetually grounded. Likes to cause scenes and be a general menace. Stresses her mother tf out. Generally a little more chill when saddled with Tawny because Tawny isn't prone to kicking up a fuss when she does something meant to elicit a reaction. Does a lot of sports. Despite being really cliquey, doesn't have any close friends. A bully at school and at home.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
CARTER VOKES[break] Nephew, 12, Student[break] Human/Ungifted [break][break] Cooper and Elise's only son. Much like his father and grandfather — gentle and soft-spoken. Big mama's boy. More artsy and creative like Tawny — she often takes him shopping for crafts. Is completely deaf and doesn't like wearing his implant. Is the reason Tawny learned ASL. Avoidant of most social interactions and finds making friends difficult. Enjoys astronomy/space and video games. Hates chaos and bickering/arguments (which there is a lot of when you live with four sisters).
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
BELLE VOKES[break] Niece, 7, Student[break] Gifted: TBD [break][break] The baby of the family and Cooper's little angel. Has her Daddy wrapped around her finger and gets away with everything. She's generally really sweet but can definitely throw tantrums when she doesn't get her way. Spoiled and chatty. Wild child.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
MATTHEW "MATTY" MENKE[break] Best Friend/Occasional FWB, 28[break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] He's kind of her safety net. The only really "easy", uncomplicated relationship she's had because neither of them ever really pressured it to be a "relationship". Still mentionable, though. Met in college and became practically inseparable. Study buddies — many afternoons lounging in some hole-in-the-wall coffee shop, chuckling and procrastinating actually doing what they need to do. Party buddies, he towed her to all sorts of social things. He's a huge clown, lots of laughs. Together they painted a huge mural on the living room wall of his dinky apartment. [break][break] He ended up dropping out and is kind of a deadbeat loser nowadays, still very much "into" that party life. But they're as close as ever and can still depend on one another to be that "familiar pick me up" when there becomes a need. She has a habit of running to him every time she ended something with someone else, taking solace in that safe, "this is nothing" that he embodies. And, for his part, he's come to a point where he kinda expects her to always be up and willing when he calls.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
STANTON COLDIRON[break] Ex/High School Sweetheart, 26[break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] Tawny's high school beau. Stanton was a super sweet, respectful, and sensitive guy and their relationship was max cheese: tons of cutesy, romantic things. They went to prom/homecoming/school dances together. Wrote each other cliché love letters. Made playlists for one another. He met her Dad and did the whole nine yards for what was essentially an adolescent, kiddy love. He was kind of her "safe space" from Franklin — a reason to run off, leave the house, etc. She was all in... or so she thought.[break][break] They started dating in her junior year of high school and they really had a blast during the summer after school ended — late nights spent on the town, running around, laughing and getting up to all sorts of things. But then all of a sudden Stanton was talking about going to the same college, growing up and having babies, etc, and Tawny pumped the brakes right before their first anniversary. She broke his heart essentially (and her own a little bit, too). He ignored her completely throughout their senior year and all of their shared friends kind of abandoned her.[break][break] A couple of years back (when Stanton returned to Los Eurosia after finishing college) he reached out to her and they briefly spoke, updating one another on each other's lives and reminiscing about their time together. It was the typical "let's do this again some time" but Tawny let the connection kind of peter out again.

VIOLET FLETCHER[break] Ex/College Bae, 27, Whereabouts Unknown[break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] Tawny and Violet met in college freshman orientation and quickly became BFFs. Like Stanton, she's ridiculously selfless and sweet. Always kept Tawny company as she worked in the soup kitchen with her father. Did school projects together, gossiped, and stayed up late. Early mornings grabbing breakfast, looking like death. Violet was there for Tawny during Franklin's slow decline. Kind of let her be super vulnerable with her. And eventually, she kind of forced Tawny to really stop, embrace what was happening, and cry it out. They kissed afterward, and you know... went from there. [break][break] Violet really wanted to be Tawny's rock. Insisted on being there for her when she was down (which she very frequently was at this point in her life). Then when Franklin died and Violet's efforts doubled (her concerns multiplied as Tawny sort of shot off the deep end), Tawny snapped big-time. It was a very messy end with her sort of rage-quitting the whole thing, telling Violet off, saying tons of shit she didn't really mean, etc. Violet straight up disappeared after this, Tawny has no idea what happened to her. She dropped her classes and, as far as she knows, moved away. Occasionally Tawny gets an urge to look her up, see if she's okay and how she's doing, but is always too ashamed. As if she doesn't have the right. [break][break] I think of Violet as one of Tawny's biggest regrets. I think what they shared would have been really sweet, really genuine, and something Tawny is too afraid to find again in someone else (because of how she just cruelly and impulsively stomped it out). She probably can't listen to a lot of music because of Violet, because it's music she introduced her to or made into playlists for her. Stuff like that.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
LUCIO ARELI[break] Ex/Professional Asshole, 29[break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] Not too long after her father's death, Tawny kind of established herself as the way she is now. Picking up whatever love she could find only when she needed it. Lucio was essentially a dependable booty-call, someone she sought out more than once, that made himself into a "boyfriend" so he could mooch off whatever Tawny could provide him. He wasn't nice to her at all and she was actually really into that during this low point in her life — convinced she didn't want nice. That she didn't want to break another Stanton or Violet's heart. She wasn't his only "girlfriend" or the only apartment he crashed at and she was actually super okay with that. Kind of just... wearily resigned... to let him in when he came around. Nobody liked him. Hell, Tawny barely liked him. Elise very bluntly and wisely tried talking sense into Tawny every single time she saw her. [break][break] Eventually, Lucio and Matty got into a full-blown fistfight, breaking tons of shit in her apartment, and that was the end of it. And no more Lucios, she decided. Looking back at it (and reflecting on how she had felt during the whole thing), sort of gave her a bit more backbone to say 'no' and be more firm in future relationships. |

[break]
ANTONIO WAYLAND[break] Father, 55, Guild Member & Hunter [break] Gifted: Tattoo/Ink Manipulation [break][break] Antonio has distinctly marked himself as a harsh and strict man. Right hand to the Guildmaster. Remorseless with his enemies and merciless against Gifted (despite himself being one). He carries a reputation of being the "Guild Warden". He demands the best from the faction and, while not usually to the extent of being cruel or abusive, he can be quite adamant when it comes to the discipline and upkeep of its men and women. With a keen eye for picking out disobedience, he has a subtle (but often severe) way of reprimanding. Among the rank and file, he is known to expect ridiculous amounts of work and constant improvement. Never impressed and always scrutinous. Even when he is impressed, his recognition isn't usually rewarded in any way.[break][break] He's very professional, polite, and never acts untowardly or without reason. Everything he does is calculated, measured, and done with intent. Always cold and composed. Unable to be taken by surprise. He's more often than not thinking a couple of steps ahead of most people with each word and order. He did his best to raise his sons to be similar, but neither of them met his expectations. The both of them are his greatest disappointments.[break][break] Much like Dino and Dane, Antonio was born into their family's hunting syndicate — the second son of its leader. But unlike his sons, Antonio fell into his expected role seamlessly. Took to it with aplomb. He was the first Gifted individual born in his lineage and was treated quite harshly by his family. His father and older brother were both killed in one vicious attack (an attack that Antonio perhaps had a hand in), and he asserted himself as its leader at the young age of twenty-four. He merged the faction with the Guild almost ten years later and harbors a great amount of loyalty and respect for its leader, Warrick Gatsby. He retains his own sort of "Wayland faction" within the Guild but does defer to Warrick in all things.

MONA AMODIO-WAYLAND[break] Mother, 50, Server & Hostess [break] Human/Ungifted [break][break] A common upbringing, Mona was born into a lower-class family and raised harmoniously in a warm, loving household. She attended public school and was "simply average" in everything that she ever did — nothing to write home about, in neither a good way nor bad. Upon graduating, she continued living with her parents, attended community college, and juggled both a waitressing and grocery-store job on top. Between work and study, there was little time for anything but sleep and the girl lacked much in terms of a social branching. But within her daily/nightly commute between campus, diner, and supermarket, Mona caught the cautious attention of a quiet, observative young man. A number of chance meetings and exchanges gradually became a conscious hope (and then full-blown intent) to cross each other's paths again. Eventually, Mona grew discontent enough with their fleeting acquaintanceship and boldly asked the man on a date.[break][break] Mona Amodio was the only act of rebellion in Antonio Wayland's otherwise strictly-obedient and family-conforming life. Born to poor, no-name parents, she was not of "notable stock" and was far from the idealistic wife to rear future Wayland heirs. But he fell in love with her anyway and, though anyone else would be hard-pressed to believe it (especially Dino and Dane), Antonio Wayland was a man capable of much charisma and warmth. Though a harsh and cold man under the public eye (and often behind closed doors as well), Mona had a way of softening the edges and drawing out the less-seen, more-human side of him, and she fell in love with him, too, to the great distress of the Waylands. [break][break] In a typical and characteristically-Wayland manner, Antonio — despite the protests and oft-verbalized disdain of many — married Mona at the young, foolish age of eighteen (Antonio four years her senior, at twenty-three). Hardly a year later, the pair had their first child, and before Dino's first birthday, Antonio found himself unexpectedly at the head of his family's criminal faction; both his father and older brother killed in a single, swift move from a rival group.[break][break] She was never content with being a simple housewife, so despite being far beyond financially set Mona raised her two children in a house she never cleaned and worked a part-time job in the same diner as before. She expressed concern about Dino and Dane being raised in the gruesome Wayland-lifestyle but it wasn't something she could stop and only fought back in small ways; by making sure her boys had some semblance of a "normal" life mixed in with their Guild-sculpting. She tried her hardest to raise her sons into wholesome, well-rounded boys despite the business they were born to inherit.[break][break] Mona is compassionate — she would love nothing more than to mother you to death. She's solicitous, caring, and generous with her reserves of warmth and love. It doesn't matter if she's known you for years or mere minutes. If there's something wrong and you find yourself in her company, expect it to be noticed, expect to be doted over, and expect a tongue-lashing if you try and pawn it off as nothing. She also takes zero shit. Though nice and generous, she is far from a pushover. She isn't docile, nor a character who will let herself be talked over. She isn't a pretentious woman who'll demand pleasantries and respect but she'll sure as fuck smack you upside the head if you start dishing out disrespect.[break][break] She's also restless and scattered and can't stand still or chill out to save her life. She always has to be doing something and will often end up trying to do three dozen things at once without giving enough focus or thought to any one undertaking. Which will often result in a series of small, related disasters like burnt dinners and small house fires. [break][break] UPDATE: Unfortunately, Dane's mother was killed by a rival hunting upstart not too long ago. A big piece of him is lost and missing with her gone and he's yet to really, really admit/face that.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
DINO WAYLAND[break] Brother, Presumed Deceased (Aged 24) [break] Gifted: Animal Empathy & Scrying [break][break] Dino was born two years before Dane and they were always inseparable. No one knew Dane (and could keep him in line) better than Dino. Unfortunately, Dino "died" five years ago and left Dane untethered and groundless. "They'd ambled home together then, laughing as they swayed and stumbled, but always in turns; able to manage, for when one was falling, the other was wrenching them back up, only for their own knees to give out in turn. It had been a ridiculous ebb and tide of strength and failing strength; a night Dane was hardly able to remember now. But he still remembered that fitting, unspoken pull and push between him and Dino, because it had been in everything they'd ever done their entire life. They'd always been like that — covering the holes in one another's strengths, without a word.[break][break] Dane pulled the figurative (and sometimes literal) trigger when Dino couldn't. When they were seven, and their mama asked Dino to kill the chickens, and he took ages in the barn, fidgeting with the axe in his hand as he looked remorsefully over the breakfast stock, it was Dane who peeked in to see what was taking so long. And it was Dane, in the several years that followed, who would "swing the axe" in various different ways, when Dino found his hands too heavy or weak. Dane, who completed the more brutish missions that Dino would have failed on his own. And in turn, Dino had always kept the pair from hot water when all Dane wanted to do was make a mess. He placated the mob of angry individuals always after his younger brother's head — be it a wronged girlfriend or fellow guild member — and smoothed all the sharp, cutting corners Dane was apt to create.[break][break] If Dane had been Dino's axe, then Dino had been Dane's ground."
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
LUCK "WOLFHOUND" HARRIS[break] Fellow Guild Member, Aged 30ish[break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] Luck, better known in the Guild as "Wolfhound", was basically Dane's replacement partner when Dino died. Outwardly, he's a very well-put-together man. Solid, smart, smooth, and polite. Sensible and charming. Everything and more Antonio Wayland wished to cultivate in his sons. He was only saddled with Dane for a little while before being basically "promoted" from working with him. Which was all well and good because he and Dane fucking hated each other.[break][break] Luck is a little better than Dane at pretty much.... everything. He's more attractive, a bit more charming and smooth, a hair more talented in a fight, etc. The list goes on. And Dane's father likes and trusts Luck a whole lot more than him (which isn't necessarily an impressive feat). The pair have a snarky hate for each other that's veiled (thinly and poorly) by half-assed, sarcastic politeness. They can work well together and have had their moments of shining competence when teamed up, they just... butt heads and enjoy despising one another. Luck knows how to prod Dane in just a way to quickly and explosively rile him up and Dane thinks of him as little more than Antonio's boot-licker. Also thinks his whole "charming, obedient, smooth, sensible guy" thing is a huge facade; knows he's a lot more cunning and devious than he lets on.[break][break] Dane is fairly certain that it'll be Luck who Antonio will trust to run the Wayland faction after him now that Dino's gone. And it's always Luck that his father sends to put Dane in his place when he goes too far.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
SARAH "RABBIT" KREHL[break] Fellow Guild Member, Aged 30ish [break] Gifted: Healing [break][break] Sarah, or "Rabbit", is a guild contact that Dane very quickly made in Los Eurosia because she's Gifted with regenerative and healing abilities. He's dragged himself to her with one foot in the grave a half-dozen times already. Sarah is reluctantly part of the Guild, allied with them out of force more than choice. She was a hunting target at one point in time but was spared because they could use her.[break][break] She hates Dane. It's his fault, of course. He really enjoys riling her up and pushing her boundaries. She's his little ice-queen that he's determined to see melt eventually. Enjoys getting a rise out of her in any way he can. She's so determined not to give him a reaction and he loves forcing cracks in that cold carapace of hers. He suspects that one day he'll drag himself to her and she'll finally let him bleed out and refuse to help him. And he'll be very proud of her when the time comes.

MARY KATE "MK" LISBETH[break] "Girlfriend", 30, Sector Agent [break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] Dane is a character who tends to maintain a number of relationships at the same time. Connections that he can utilize with people who have things to offer him beyond simple sex. For these people, he can pretend to be someone entirely different than who he is. And really, he is admittedly quite good at juggling these things. MK is one of these connections. [break][break] To MK, Dane is just a well-adjusted man with a cute dog (a Spaniel that Dane cooks up just for their outings — one time he got the coloring just a bit wrong and almost blew the whole thing to bits; luckily they were drunk that night and MK forgot all about it). He's a bit mysterious, is between jobs but has a dream of brewing his own beer, and he's been nothing but nice and charming to her. [break][break] MK works for the Sector and takes work home with her; Dane likes to snoop through her files to get information on Gifted individuals while she's sleeping. He really goes all in on the façade when he's with her, not only finding her quite valuable when it comes to information but also a hoot to be around. She can be pretty suspicious though and he tends not to come around when he's beaten to a pulp or dying because he knows she'll pester and prod to find out what really happened instead of just doctoring him up and accepting some typical sob-story. [break][break] UPDATE: Not too long ago, Dane discovered that MK was actually using him, too! They had a... bit of a scuffle... but ultimately, he didn't threaten or kill her. He didn't even pass on to the Guild or his father what she'd been getting up to. He hasn't reached out to her or heard from her at all since their little "break-up". As much as he maybe should hate her, he doesn't. He still likes her and even respects her for what she did to him. It must have taken a lot of resolve to fool someone she knew was dangerous, after all.

AMELIA "MIA" EVANS[break] Flirty Acquaintance, 25, Librarian[break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] Okay, so Mia — whom he likes to call "Mouse" despite having no Guild affiliation — really doesn't have much to offer him. Sometimes Dane just likes to play around (and eventually corrupt or break) cute, innocent little things. Amelia is so adorable, he just can't resist. She's a quiet, reserved, and horribly shy librarian and it was laughably easy to get her wrapped around his finger. [break][break] To Mia, Dane is a University student studying to become a veterinarian. He tends to do a lot of his anatomy sketches in her library, passing her shy little winks and hamming up how it's just to be in her company. It's a slow-burn here, she's a bit too shy to take him home like some others, but he's having fun flustering her and getting her to that point where she'll be so bold.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
Gifted: Pyrokinesis [break][break] Dane found out she was Gifted through MK and took a little interest. Her ability was similar to pyrokinesis and he thought to himself "that's kinda hot", looked her up and thought "she's kinda hot", then started the prowl. Silene had a girlfriend, which Dane didn't mind, especially since a bit of forward flirting uncovered a shared interest and a marked lack of faithfulness on Silene's part. Dane was always willing to be a person she reached for when her girlfriend was being a bit too toxic and she wanted revenge. They would club together, get wasted, and talk very little about themselves — all good points in Dane's books. She didn't care to know what he did for a living so he never had to bother with straightening out a backstory for her. [break][break] UPDATE: Unfortunately, Antonio found out about this little dalliance and had Dane kill her.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
YELENA "MINK" MORSE[break] Ex/Fling, 27, Fellow Hunter/Guildie[break] Human/Ungifted [break][break] Yelena and Dane actually have a history. She's been a part of the Guild for a long time and is a formidable hunter. He doesn't have to do any "pretending" when he's with her. They were briefly a thing — not quite dating but very involved nonetheless — many years ago. But then Dane got her sister killed on a mission (it really was an accident but he was being reckless) and now she really, really hates him. Has even tried killing him a few times! That doesn't stop the sparks from flying when they come across each other or seek one another out. They throw insults, exchange blows, maybe make out a little, and then it kinda just goes from there. Yelena hates herself for it everytime and really takes it out on him, which Dane enjoys. |

[break]
PAUL COLBURN[break] Father, 51, Orthodontist [break] Human/Ungifted [break][break] Paul is your typical sofa-lounging Dad. Really let the kids do whatever they wanted and left the real bulk of actual "parenting" up to Amelie. Was more "buddy buddy" with his children and only engaged or punished when his wife demanded it of him. He had his shining moments of "real talk" though and was super accepting of all his children always. They definitely got him in trouble a lot by going to him with propositions that they knew Mom would say "no" to. [break][break] Paul and Amelie met in college and run an orthodontist business together. He's a big romantic and goes all out for big events like anniversaries and such. Spoils his wife. Their relationship has always been solid despite her frustrations with him most of the time. Is an absolute sucker for his two granddaughters. All his children know they can call him dead in the night for anything at all. He'll complain and sigh the whole time but he's really a ride or die.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
AMELIE COLBURN[break] Mother, 52, Orthodontist [break] Human/Ungifted [break][break] Amelie is high-strung af. She's mellowed out some now that her children have all flown the nest but, while they were growing up, she was super strict and stressed. Homeschooled the lot of them up until their high school years while still putting in work at the family's orthodontist practice. Gavyn stressed her out the most, considering he was so reckless and wild and always getting seriously banged up without feeling the repercussions of pain to learn from. What started out as coddling ended up evolving into constant chiding and berating for his stupid antics. She was much more forgiving with her youngest children, Tucker and Buckley, and much less forgiving with her eldest (and only daughter), Molly. [break][break] Nowadays, if any of her kids called her for anything she'd very bluntly tell them that they are adults and don't need Mama-ing anymore (but then she'd show up anyway because ugh she is their Mom, she guesses).
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
MOLLY COLBURN[break] Sister, 30, Head Chef [break] Human/Ungifted [break][break] As the eldest child, Molly grew up a bit more quickly than her siblings. Her mother put a lot of undue responsibility on her at times. With three younger brothers — all of them absolute chaotic dumpster fires — she was constantly frustrated, annoyed, and angry. Grew up brawling. Kind of a tough-love sort of woman now because of it. Fierce and independent. Divorced, raising her two daughters in a "civil" co-parenting situation with her ex-husband. Works as a head chef in one of Los Morena's most esteemed restaurants. [break][break] Confides in Gavyn when stress catches up with her and she has a breakdown. Although most of the time their relationship revolves around her thinking of him as a dumbass and hitting him upside the head when he's done something a bit too wild, they do share a pretty reliable emotional confidence with one another. She will sometimes break into Gavyn's apartment to cook him decent food (because who knows when the last time was that he even looked at a vegetable). Or complain about how uncleanly the place is and pick up. His roommate has a mega crush on her even though Gavyn has told him millions of times that she's super high-maintenance and way out of his league.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
TUCKER & BUCKLEY COLBURN[break] Brothers, 24 (Twins), Coding/Graphic Whizzes[break] Gifted: Telepathy [break][break] Tuck and Buck are twins and the babies of the family. They have a really strong relationship with one another (though it's more often rivalry and fighting than anything else, they definitely have one another's back and are undoubtedly one another's biggest support). Talk shit about and dog on one another super hard but will flip a switch if anyone else says something bad thing about the other. Growing up they were always brawling and beating each other up — like, to the point of frequent stitches and hospital visits — but were always inseparable nonetheless. As babies of the family, they got away with a lot more stuff than Gavyn and Molly did. [break][break] Both guys are absolute dumbasses in most aspects of life except technology. Played a lot of videogames growing up and now Buckley works as a coder and Tucker works as a graphic designer. Gavyn likes to joke that they're vampires who never experience sunlight. Party animals. They have the gift of telepathy but, growing up, decided this was just a "twin" thing and really only "subconsciously" used the gift on one another. Now that they're older they've probably discovered that they can use it on other people, but this isn't something they've divulged with Gavyn.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
WINNIE & ZOEY WINTERS[break] Nieces, Aged 9 and 6 [break] Humans/Ungifted [break][break] Massive brats! Give their Mama hell as much as they possibly can. Their parents divorced many years ago and although on the surface their co-parenting is largely civil, there are a bunch of underhanded things that Daddy Winters does to pit the girls against Molly. He spoils them, contradicts the disciplinary practices and routines that Molly tries to reinforce, and the kids are kinda always pulled in two different directions when switching households. [break][break] Occasionally Molly needs a break and asks Gavyn to help out with the girls but... honestly, they're just so wild and unmanageable that Gav often has difficulties keeping them under control. They're the reason he never wants kids in his life. And he's also super surprised at how they act, considering Molly would never have gotten away with similar behavior growing up.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
AARON HAWTHORNE[break] Best Friend, 28 [break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] Aaron and Gavyn have been best friends since they were very little. With Gav's house neighboring the orphanage in which Aaron lived most of his life, and their second-story rooms having windows facing each other and only a stones-throw distance between them, they befriended one another simply enough. Spent many late nights whispering and laughing to one another when they should have been sleeping. Trading Pokemon and crying over comic books that they shared. Gavyn was home-schooled and he helped Aaron where he lacked in his academics. When Aaron would get adopted/fostered, he'd always end up on Gavyn's doorstep a couple of days later so they could keep tabs on one another.[break][break] Aaron floated in and out of various households throughout his life but Gavyn was always a constant. Basically his one, dependable constant. They had their skirmishes like any friends, but their friendship meant a lot to both of them; too much for anything to really cause any deep, lasting problems. When they were seven years old, Aaron vowed to marry Gavyn one day, and while he still teasingly "holds him to it", their relationship is far more disgustingly platonic than romantic.[break][break] Aaron is really dang smart. Kinda hardy. Got into trouble a lot as a kid, not because he was a particularly bad guy, but because he was always sorta painted to be a bad guy and — after being juggled around so much — started acting the role a little. Not the kind of person who'd take shit from anyone (which really put him at odds with Donovan when Donovan started to get bad — because Aaron would call him out and wouldn't stand for it). He's also very messy when it comes to his emotions, though he tries to keep a lot of it from showing. Where Gavyn can cry freely and openly when he's upset, Aaron's the type to bite his lip and choke that shit down. Unless it's with Gavyn, probably. He and Gavyn are like.... attached at the hip and the best of bros.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
ISAAC WRIGHT[break] Best Friend, 26, Student/Artist [break] Gifted: Superhuman Senses/Reflexes [break][break] Isaac spent a short time in the orphanage as Aaron's roommate so, naturally, Gavyn met him and they got along pretty well (though it took a while for them to feel one another out and things weren't quite amicable in the beginning). Isaac wasn't in the orphanage long but, after he was adopted, he, Aaron, and Gavyn all remained in-touch and close. And that's been a friendship that's lasted many years. There was a brief spell of awkward crushing between Gavyn and Isaac which they explored haphazardly, only to find themselves much more easy/compatible as friends.[break][break] Isaac is quiet, sweet, sensitive, and an artist. He's a bit aimless about life and a chronic "college major juggler". He and Gavyn spend a lot of time together doing "soft" activities.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
DONOVAN VELA[break] Ex-Friend, 29[break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] Donovan was the last person in Gavyn's childhood brood. He was more Aaron's friend than anyone else's but Gav still considered them fairly close. As they grew older, Donovan changed exponentially. The determined, self-assertive, and bold boy became increasingly mean-spirited and cruel. He began bullying/hurting everyone around him and there were explosive fights between him and Aaron because of it. Donovan left them and fell into a far worse crowd. He and Aaron were more like brothers than friends and their fallout became a sore, avoided subject. [break][break] Late one night, Donovan's dangerous group of friends attacked Isaac and Gavyn while they were walking back to Isaac's apartment from the University where Isaac had been showing him some of his work. They beat Isaac to such a state that he was hospitalized and, while Gav wasn't hurt to the same extent, they killed his dog. That was about six months ago and since then, Donovan has become almost a taboo subject between Isaac, Aaron, and Gavyn. They didn't tell the police that they recognized one of the attacking persons and no one was ever pressed with the charges.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
SCOTT "SCOTTY" JOHNSON[break] Roommate/Friend, 29[break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] Scotty would like you to think he is very tough. He scowls in all his pictures. Argues for the sake of arguing. Quick to adopt a harsh and "mean" tone. Even quicker to complain. But he's hardly the asshole he tries to make himself out to be. He's really very "mother-hen"; super concerned about his friends in a tough-love, roundabout way. Secretly the mom friend of the group. Takes care of everyone when they're drunk and stupid. Kind of the "head honcho" of the house. The one who handles all the bills/collects the rent.[break][break] Was raised in a strict, homophobic household and claims he's heterosexual. Gavyn suspects otherwise but is content to let him make that journey on his own time. Has a very stated crush on Gavyn's older sister, Molly. He doesn't stand a chance. He hates, hates, HATES Gavyn's best friend Aaron. Though he tries to keep it mostly under wraps, the disdain kind of just oozes out of him any time Aaron is around.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
ERIK SMITH[break] Roommate/Friend, 25[break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] How the hell Erik is friends with Scotty and Gavyn is beyond both of them. He's an absolute genius, a clean freak to boot, and is super introverted. A bit of a recluse, he stays up way into the AMs playing video games and world-building lore for the various half-dozen (unfinished) novels he writes. He's a lot more open with Gavyn and Scotty than anyone else and they've forced him out of his shell a bit. He's willing to be dragged to social outings and parties but can be pretty awkward and tends to stick to one or the other like a shadow.[break][break] Erik is really close friends with Gavyn's BFF Isaac. They play online video games together and often serve as sounding boards for one another's creative hobbies. Gavyn secretly "ships" them, sssh. |

EMELI VOKES[break] Friend, 44, Lives in Colorado [break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] Ash met and befriended Emeli (and his daughter) during the time he spent living in Estes Park. They were both reclusive and private individuals tucked into the mountains and shared an affinity for beer and hiking. They got along so well because neither of them were inclined to pry into one another's past or question why they lived the way they did. They just shot the shit and did a bunch of outdoorsy stuff together. Hiked with their dogs. Shooed black bears off one another's porches when they came over with a six-pack. That kind of thing. [break][break] It was Emeli who put the thought of Los Eurosia in Ashley's head when he first considered going back to California (though the man never did mention having family there). They shoot each other texts every once in a while.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
ALYSSA DUFRESNE[break] Coworker, Aged 30ish [break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] A nurse at the same retirement home Ashley works for. Not long divorced and has two kids. They've tried going on a couple of dates but she's always come up with a reason/excuse at the last minute to back out. Ash is convinced now that she's not quite ready to move on from her nasty marriage so has dialed back and will let her make the next attempt if/when she desires to. They still get along very well. He will frequently pick up her shift if she's run into some trouble at home.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
HEATHER MCELROY[break] Acquaintance, Aged 30ish [break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] Heather is one of Ashley's contacts at a local animal shelter. She sets him up with foster dogs who are having trouble being adopted, struggle from behavioral issues, need some rehabilitation, or are just running out of time. She's very quirky and spunky and always sends him dog memes and gifs through text. She once invited him to her birthday party and, upon showing up, Ashley decided she and her friends were waaaaay too wild for him to hang.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
MELANIE MEADOWS[break] Resident at Lakepoint Retirement Home, 78 [break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] Mrs. Meadows is Ashley's favorite resident at Lakepoint. A sweet elderly woman with no family (or at least no family that visits her). Can be very difficult when her dementia acts up. She likes to regale him with stories of her hey-day when she was young and wild. Ashley taught her how to use speech-to-text on her phone so she could reach out to him when he wasn't working but she can never remember that it's "Siri" instead of "Alexa". He takes her out occasionally and wheels her around town on little fun dates when she has the energy.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
"JACKAL"[break] Fellow Deadman/Ex-Guild, Past Crush, 30ish [break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] Jackal is the man who helped Ashley escape the Guild and forge his new identity. They haven't seen or heard from one another in over five years (since they decided it was safer for them to have no contact). Ashley wonders about him every now and again.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
"BORZOI"[break] Guild Member/Hunter, 24 [break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] Jackal's little sister. Particularly ruthless, cutthroat, and savage. Master manipulator. Convinced her brother isn't dead and has been tracking him. She's begun to sniff Ashley out but isn't interested in selling him out to the Guild. Couldn't care about him tbh. But she might be interested in using him to smoke out Jackal (since it's apparent they "died" together). Is keeping lowkey about the whole thing, waiting to find an angle to play. |

Christian's NPC list mostly consists of his immediate family. However, he has tons of additional extended family as well, in addition to long-standing friends, work relationships, past relationships/hookups, etc.[break][break]- - - - - -
[break]
OSCAR SAVINO[break] Father, 54, Retired Firefighter Captain [break] Gifted: Enhanced Resistances & Strength [break][break] A stern but loving father. Unafraid to be firm but also understanding and compassionate. Because of his job, he was gone from the house a lot when the boys were kids. But none of them felt this was something to hold against him and when he was home, he was home. Retired early after a work injury. Very proud of all his sons.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
ALMA SAVINO[break] Mother, 53, General Practitioner [break] Gifted: Healing/Regeneration [break][break] An absolute force to be reckoned with. Managed to complete medical schooling while raising her sons (with the help of her sisters). Very sweet and wise. A comfort not only to her children but to anyone who needs it. Did her stint in hospitals but now works at a free clinic. Is EXTREMELY disappointed that NONE of her sons have given her grandbabies yet.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
ALEXANDER SAVINO[break] Brother, 33, General Practitioner [break] Gifted: Healing/Regeneration [break][break] The eldest of the Savino boys and the de facto "Sav" when they're all together. Alex is easily the most mature and sensible of the five... nowadays. As a kid, though, he was probably the biggest of the instigators and troublemakers. A rebel and bad boy growing up. Caused his Mama plenty of heartaches. His brothers all looked up to him and he seemed pretty intent on setting bad examples. He eventually got his head on straight though. He works in trauma/urgent care.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
ADRIAN SAVINO[break] Brother, 30, Paramedic/EMT [break] Gifted: Healing/Regeneration [break][break] Adrian and Lionel were definitely the name bullies of the Savino brothers. They were attached at the hip and got themselves both in loads of trouble. They remain almost just as close to this day, though they've matured a bit. When they joined the same firehouse as their father he really shaped them up and snapped them in line. They can still be huge asshats (especially to their younger brothers), but they're fine men. Love their job and helping people. Definitely the type to rush into trouble without hesitation and put their necks on the line. Will ignore rules and orders if it means saving a life because they think they can handle anything. Growing up, Adrian was a bit disappointed that his powers were more like their mother's than their father's. He wanted to be a firefighter like Oscar but realized being a paramedic/EMT was where his Gift could be utilized the most. Is hellbent on making his profession just as noble.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
LIONEL SAVINO[break] Brother, 29, Firefighter [break] Gifted: Enhanced Resistances & Strength [break][break] Lionel followed in his father's footsteps and became a firefighter, working in the same house as his paramedic brother, Adrian. Adrian was always jealous of his powers but they remain two peas in a pod. Like his brother, Lionel can be a bit of a headstrong martyr, always rushing into trouble/danger because he thinks he can handle anything anyone throws at him. Is definitely a show-off.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
MATEO SAVINO[break] Brother, 27, Pilot [break] Gifted: Superhuman Senses/Reflexes [break][break] Vain, cocky, and arrogant. Fun-loving, a bit of a clown, and very full of himself. Despite all of this, of all the Savino brothers, Mateo and Christian are the ones that get along the most. They share friends and go out together a lot. He's a womanizer and a selfie-loving gym rat. Doesn't baby Christian at all and was somewhat "picked on" by the older Savinos as well growing up. However, because of his reflexes and senses, he was always able to give them a bit of a dance.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
MARISSA MEDINA[break] Cousin, 25, Volunteer & Teacher [break] Gifted: Superhuman Senses/Reflexes [break][break] Christian's favorite cousin. Basically grew up together since Alma needed a lot of help from Marissa's mother during the kids' childhoods. They're the same age and she really felt more like a sister than anything else. Was the first person he "came out" to (they shared a crush in middle school). They're playful and silly together, go out a lot, and she's his rock and he hers. She definitely tried to beat up his brothers/her older cousins when they picked on him. Nowadays it's plenty of ugly crying together during movie marathons, glamming up together for nights out, and dishing out boyfriend drama. She volunteers at a hospital and a battered woman's shelter. Also teaches self-defense and boxing at a gym she lives above.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
MARGO JIMENEZ[break] Friend, 27, Chef for a catering company[break] Gifted: Empathy [break][break] One of Christian's best friends. She's a little older than him and was really Mateo's friend before he stole her (lolol). She's wild and a lot of fun. Very dramatic, loud, and the type to cause all sorts of trouble whenever they're out together. When they first met, they were little more than kids and Margo had difficulty keeping her gift of empathy from being overwhelming and overstimulating. She was a mess. Christian helped her through this the most and spent many nights practicing with her to get her gift under control and to a point where she could block out the emotions/feelings of those around her. |

ELIZABETH "ELIZA" WHITLOCK[break] Wife, Deceased (Aged 29), Police Officer [break] Human/Ungifted [break][break] Eliza was brave, headstrong, and smart as a whip. Had a spine and didn't falter when it came to keeping John in line. Hilarious. Adventurous. A bit reckless and stubborn. Definitely a hoot and a bright, shining presence in the lives of anyone who knew her. Their relationship started off as this huge, snarky rivalry but John fell head over heels very quickly. He changed a lot for Eliza and she had a way of keeping him grounded and whole. About five years ago, shortly after finding out she was expecting their first child, she was murdered by the Guild.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
CLAIRE KISER[break] Sister-in-Law, 32, Secretary [break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] Eliza's sister. Has two children who adored their Uncle John and Aunt Eliza. Like her sister, Claire is headstrong and stubborn. Has a spine and is unafraid to be firm and take a stand. Tried her hardest to keep up with John after Eliza's death but he completely froze her out. Honestly, he would be 100% unsurprised if he were to come home one day to find her waiting for him on his front porch.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
MICHAEL KISER[break] Brother-in-Law, 32, Marketing Director [break] Presumed to be Human [break][break] Eliza's brother. John always thought of him as a bit of a doormat (and he is a little). But he's a good guy nonetheless. They got along and always tried to connect when the girls left them alone together, but it never failed to be a tad awkward. They didn't have anything in common and were always reaching for conversation topics. It was always a relieving breath of fresh air when someone else interrupted and/or joined them (lol). Michael and Eliza were very close though.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - | |
AMBER WHITLOCK[break] Sister, 34, Stay-At-Home Mom [break] Gifted: Shapeshifting [break][break] John's little sister. The only of his three siblings that he really kept up with (at least until Eliza died — since then she's been shut out just like everyone else). They grew up running the streets as animals, getting into trouble and seeking scraps to eat. Dropped out of high school when she got pregnant her sophomore year. Her boyfriend/baby daddy owns his own construction company and they live just comfortably enough. She keeps up with their half-brothers, usually giving them money when they ask. |
