BASICS
NAME: King, Finlay King Wyatt
AGE: 42
BIRTHDATE: December 21
PRONOUNS: He/Him
SEXUALITY: Gay, Non committal
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: Single
OCCUPATION: Owner and Operator of King's Haven
NEIGHBORHOOD: East End, also where King's Haven is located (he lives there)
MEMBER GROUP: Gifted
POWERS: Accelerated Healing & Superhuman Physical ResistanceAccelerated Healing:
King possesses the ability to rapidly heal from almost any physical injury. His body neatly knits itself back together within a few minutes for minor wounds and anywhere from half an hour to a day for more serious ones, though he still feels every ounce of pain caused by the injury. The only thing that would stop his body from healing is if the part of his brain that controls his powers were to be blocked by an object or destroyed. This is a passive ability that he has no control over.
Superhuman Physical Resistance:
This is also a passive power. King's skin is tougher than most, more akin to wearing a leather or jean jacket than actual skin. He is also extremely resistant to hot and cold. He could easily take things out of the oven without gloves or walk around in his underwear in the snow and be completely unaffected.
THE LOOKS
HEIGHT: 6'7
WEIGHT: 178 lbs
HAIR COLOR: Red
EYE COLOR: it changes from green to blue
FACE CLAIM: Rhett McLaughlin
OVERALL APPEARANCE:
Probably the first and most glaringly obvious thing about King is that the man is a goddamn giant. And boy, does he wear it well. The next is his long curly, red hair and grizzly, red beard. Since he almost always dresses comfortably but functionally, he tends to give off the appearance of a lumberjack. The fact that his tall frame is plated in solid, but not excessive, muscle, lends to this look.
INSIDE
LIKES:
- Respect - King does not often ask for much, but common courtesy is something he demands
- Gifted People - He feels most at home around his own kind
- Keeping the Peace - King will always attempt to diffuse a volatile situation
- Good "home" cooked food - He makes sure that every cook he hires makes the kind of food that reminds you of home
- King's Haven - the inn and tavern is King's whole life
- Not Answering to Anyone - Having spent too many years doing what he was told, King can't stand for someone else to tell him what to do
DISLIKES:
- Taking Sides - All of this nonsense between the hunters, the Sector, and Blackstorm is all bullshit in King's eyes. He has pledged to remain neutral in the war and that King's Haven would be a safe landed for all gifted people, regardless of their allegiance
- Humans - He does not hate humans, per se, but he does not trust them. They are typically unwelcome at his establishment.
- Disrespect - It doesn't matter what kind. Being rude is being weak.
- Being Manipulated or Taken Advantage Of - As someone that makes it his life's work to provide a safe space for everyone, he does not like feeling like he is being used
- Violence - There was a time when he lived in a less peaceful manner, but King has had enough bloodshed at this point and he certainly won't have it at the Haven
- Drama - King could not care less about your petty squabbles. Take that shit elsewhere before it turns into a fight
STRENGTHS:
- Physicality - His body is tougher than most and what he can't deflect, he heals from. Add in the fact that he keeps his muscles tight, and King is a formidable opponent.
- Experience - King has been around the block a few times and learned a thing or two from it. Having been involved with both the Sector and freedom fighters at some point in his life gives him first hand knowledge of quite a bit.
- Neutrality - His neutral alignment in the current climate gives him access to things that would not be given as freely otherwise. It also puts a lot of people more at ease, as they know he's not just looking for an excuse to fight or be a rat
- Well Mannered - It always pays to be polite
- Even Tempered - King is extremely chill and it is hard to draw an emotional or rash response from him
WEAKNESSES:
- Neutrality - While his neutrality is generally a positive aspect for him, it sometimes works against him. Hardcore enthusiasts for their causes tend to think him weak and wishy-washy because of this
- Distrustful of Humans - King is 100% predisposed to think the worst of humans and this can often negatively impact his life
- Unforgiving - King's good opinion, once lost, is typically lost forever
- Non Committal - Getting attached isn't really King's thing
- Pessimistic - It's hard not to see the glass as half empty when he keeps watching people pour it on the floor
OVERALL PERSONALITY:
King is incredibly laid back when it comes to his dealings with others. Don't give him a hard time and he won't give you one, either. Oh, and respect the laws of King's Haven, of course. The Haven is practically an extension of King, himself. He's lived through a lot and it shows, especially in his attitude towards humans. Respect is key to gaining his favor, just don't use it to betray him or use him in any way or he will be done with you. His goal in life is to provide a sanctuary for all gifted peoples and anyone who gets in the way of that isn't worth his time. King doesn't really think he has the time or energy to devote to one person so he keeps everyone at arm's length so they don't get too close so that he'll have to care about them. Or worse, deal with them caring about him.

HISTORY:
Finlay's parents met on holiday in Europe. His mother, Amélie Toussaint, was a florist from Southern France. His father, Dougald Wyatt, was a landscaper from the Hebrides. It was a match made in heaven. Amélie relocated to Scotland to be with Dougald and it was there that they married and conceived a child. The political climate in Scotland was beginning to become too much for them, however, and before Amélie gave birth to Finlay, the two fled to Toronto, Canada, to start their lives over. Finlay grew up speaking three different languages at home, which, he felt, ultimately enriched his life in the end. His mother, of course, spoke French. His father spoke Scottish Gaelic. They both spoke English. The people of Toronto mostly spoke French and English, so the only language that took Finlay any real effort to learn was Scottish Gaelic. As far as things to pass down to their son, they also passed on their powers. Amélie had the ability to commune with plants and make them grow or wither, while Dougald was able to withstand any temperature (a power that Finlay also possesses).
Finlay's powers manifested almost immediately. No injury remained on the babe for long and the nurses complained that he had tough skin so they had to use their thickest needles for his vaccinations. Beyond that, his childhood was fairly normal. He was a happy and much loved little boy. When he was thirteen, his mother died giving birth to Finlay's little sister, whom his father named Amélie, to honor his late wife. Despite the age difference, Finlay adored little Amy and doted on her like no other. She had the same gift as their mother. It broke his heart to leave her when he graduated, but he was able to get a scholarship to a good school in America. Dougald told him he would be a fool to pass up such an offer and reminded him that he could always come back for Amy on his breaks and call her every night.
Whether it was the fact that he did not like it or the fact that he missed his family, Finlay quickly realized that college was not for him. Not wanting to disappoint them, however, and not wanting to have wasted so much time and effort, he scraped by with an associate's degree in criminal justice. He figured that, at the very least, he could find work as a private investigator if need be. Finlay's college roommate was the only person from the U.S. that knew that Finlay was gifted, and that was only because he happened to walk in while Finlay was shaving one day and saw him heal from an accidental knick. Just as he was preparing to go home, however, tragedy struck. His father and eight year old sister were coming back from a recital (Amy played the violin), when the overpass they were driving on suddenly collapsed as a giant sink hole opened up. Around twenty people died (or, in Amy's case, they could not even find a body) that day.
After the funeral, Finlay was a bit lost. He ended up selling his parents' house because he couldn't stand to be there anymore. Everywhere he went, he saw his family and it made his heart ache. He ended up returning to America and did, indeed, become a private investigator. He was decent at it but, mostly, it just paid the bills. One day, a man came in to talk to him and gave him a card to come down to his office downtown. Finlay had no idea that he was about to walk into the regional headquarters for the Sector. Apparently, his old roommate worked for them now and had told them what he could do. When they tried to offer him the job, he firmly turned them down. He didn't want to have anything to do with the kind of work they described. That is, until they showed him irrefutable proof that the sink hole that killed his family had been caused by a gifted individual as an act of war in a conflict that Finlay had never known existed. It went against his better judgement, but he could not allow something like that to happen again and do nothing about it.
For years, Finlay worked for the Sector, believing he was doing what was right. He belonged to a team of specialists that they called in to dangerous situations to negotiate, diffuse, neutralize, and put an end to threats that were beyond the skills of their regular teams or if a building was going to collapse or something. They also sent his team on "off the books" missions quite a bit. His unit called him by his middle name, King, because they thought it was more badass than Finlay and it made for a decent callsign. Through working for the Sector, he gathered quite a few contacts in the world of gifted people. After many years of saying "how high," he began to see the people they were sending him after differently. Many of them did not even want to fight, but felt like they had to protect themselves and threaten those that would do them harm. King also began to realize that the many of his human coworkers saw him as "other," even the ones he thought were his friends.
In the end, he attempted to resign from his position with the Sector. That was when he discovered that they were not going to let him go so easily. It took some heavy handed convincing and showing them in a contained incident exactly how much damage he could and would do to their organization (the incident can come into roleplay with sector characters at some point as a plot hook, even) for them to finally let him leave, so long as he stayed out of their way and did not cause trouble for them. They tried to call on him occasionally after that, but mostly got hit with a big "fuck off."
Having been called King for close to fifteen years, the name stuck with him. He decided to use his savings to purchase a building in the poorer part of town and turning it into a tavern with several rooms upstairs to serve as an inn. He named the establishment King's Haven and intended it to be a sanctuary to all gifted people, no matter their background. As long as they obeyed the number one rule, no violence on the premises, any gifted individuals were protected by "King's Law," an agreement he signed with the Sector and several groups of hunters, and Blackstorm. Humans are not allowed there without express permission.
