After a particularly shitty day at work, and today was one of those particularly shitty days, Syd often found themselves at Pat’s at the end of the night. Thankfully, there wasn’t too many people tonight; Wednesdays weren’t exactly the prime day of the week for nightlife. But that was why Syd liked it here. It wasn’t too busy, too crowded, too loud.
Syd posted up in their usual spot, in a booth closer to the back of the room, watching a couple of people nearby play darts. They cradled a glass of water between their hands, thinking, maybe, tonight will be the night they finally order a drink. Of course, they think that all the time, but never actually order it. It’s the job that’ll finally push them over the edge, they think, but what else are they gonna do? Of course, they could just go home. But then they wouldn’t have the luxury of watching these people try their best, and fail immensely, at darts.
Eventually they finished the water, but still wasn’t in the mood to leave just yet. They were keenly aware that it would look too strange just to be sitting in a booth completely alone without anything to eat or drink in front of them, though the staff probably wouldn’t mind. It’s not like it was packed. Either way, they decided just to get another water, so got up and walked over to the bar, careful not to bother anybody along the way. “Another?” The bartender nodded, poured another glass, and handed it over. “Thanks.” Syd grabbed the glass and turned, taking a sip as they looked out over the bar.
