WELCOME TO LOS EUROSIA,
ELYSIUM LIN
"The moment I lost you will be thе same as the moment I died"
BASICS
NAME: Elysium "Elys" Lin
AGE: 25
BIRTHDATE: December 25th, 1996
PRONOUNS: he/him
SEXUALITY: demisexual
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: single
OCCUPATION: lounge singer
NEIGHBORHOOD: East End
MEMBER GROUP: Blackstorm
POWERS: merfolk physiologyWhen submerged up to the waist in water, human legs lengthen and fuse together (a process that can be quite painful if there is not enough room) and new growth sprouts the scales and tail fin(s) of a fish. Gills can be found on the sides of the neck and torso, allowing for the ability to breath in fresh or salt water, all while keeping the ability to breath normal air while the head is above water. While submersion forces a complete transformation, wetting the skin (from rain, the sink, etc.) can cause patches of glimmering scales to appear on the effected area. Both transformations will fade or revert after all moisture has been removed, but the drying process can itch and burn.
Regardless of the form taken, the merfolk have captivating voices. In particular, the maternal side of the Lin siblings have a natural inclination toward all forms of music, and their songs evoke strong emotions from those who listen. Their siren's song can be used to calm someone or rile them up, and, should they will it, their song will entrance listeners and draw them to the source.
While Elys only has experience with the aquarium in the middle of the main casino he performs at, there is an unspoken bond between him and aquatic life. They follow him as he passes, and they have displayed signs of stress or agitation whenever Elys's emotions fluctuate while nearby. While he cannot directly communicate with them, they seem to understand what he says.
THE LOOKS
HEIGHT: 6'0"
WEIGHT: 160lbs
HAIR COLOR: black, often dyed lighter colors
EYE COLOR: dark brown
FACE CLAIM: Lee Dongmin (Cha Eunwoo - Astro)
OVERALL APPEARANCE: Elys is tall and lithe, and his hair is kept just long enough to style as he pleases. There is a certain beauty about him that draws the eye wherever he goes, even when his go-to outfit when off stage is nothing more than a hoodie and jeans. The majority of his closet (primarily consisting of suits) is meant for the stage and never gets touched unless he is told what to wear.
Should he enter a body of water, his other form, one that feels more natural than the one he was born in, will engulf everything from the waist down in translucent white scales. Large, thin, and flowing fins provide excellent mobility in the water while casting a dazzling display of pastels. Thin webbing connects his fingers, and gills carve into his flanks and the sides of his neck, mottled with scales.
INSIDE
LIKES: music, sweets, watching rainy days through the window
DISLIKES: confinement, summer heat, bitter foods
STRENGTHS: musical prodigy (vocal, piano, guitar, violin, etc.), adaptive, naturally strong swimmer
WEAKNESSES: manipulative (force of habit/survival tactic), technologically inept (they kept him away from phones, computers, etc.), directionally challenged (unless he's heading to a body of water)
OVERALL PERSONALITY: Elys has spent so many years pretending to be someone he is not in order to protect his siblings that it is hard to tell where the act ends and the truth begins. He has become a habitual smooth talker in order to twist situations around into something beneficial for him. As sociable as he may seem, there is nothing more he would rather do than cut a conversation short and hide away in his room. Too bad for him, he has a hard time saying no to others. He masks how exhausted he has become, and he pushes himself to be presentable, even when he is sick.

HISTORY:
Once upon a time, a sudden storm caught a fisherman by surprise. The waves tore apart his boat, and the current pulled him under. He should have died, yet he awoke to the gentle melody of a woman's voice, singing as the sun began to rise over the horizon.
Once upon a time, a fisherman fell in love with a mermaid. They sat together for hours, talking, singing, and laughing together as if they had known one another for years. Fate, he called it. He wanted her to return home with him, but she refused. Her home was the sea, the place she should remain. Reluctantly, he let her go.
Once upon a time, a fisherman returned month after month, hoping to find the mermaid that had captured his heart. She reappeared three years later, but it was three years too late. The fisherman caught the mermaid in his net and refused to set her free ever again.
Elys fell asleep many nights to what many would only assume was a fairytale, much like the tales of selkies. In truth, it was the history of their ancestors. His mother would whisper each word with a sweet voice, only for her tone to grow flatter and flatter as the tale twisted from a love story to one of possession and isolation. A terrible story to tell your children at night, but it was one she made certain to ingrain in the minds of her children.
One night, Elys asked his mother why she married a human. Their father was a great man, but he had been kept in the dark about everything, even the story she told night and night again. A complicated expression on her face eventually gave way. "Because love makes you blind to the dangers around you." She then proceeded to insist that she would do it all over again if she had the chance, if only because of her adorable children.
All of which, in a surprising turn of events, were just like their mother. Due to diluted blood from being ripped from the sea, their gift often skipped a generation or two before reappearing.
The siblings lived two lives under their own roof. Forged medical records claimed that he and his siblings had a terrible skin condition that prevented them from prolonged contact with water. It was enough to convince their father (who let his wife handle bathing since the condition came from her side of the family, making her the most knowledgeable) and the school. They never went to a public pool, and they were homeschooled on rainy days. While he had few friends, his teachers adored him, which often fueled the bullying he faced in his youth. His brother did what he could to protect him, but Elys became an open target once his brother moved onto middle school.
He never told his parents.
A fracture formed in the façade of a happy family when he was only eight. His father began to gamble again (he had originally stopped after meeting Helena) after a coworker dragged him to a casino for teambuilding purposes. As if he had never stopped to begin with, he was immediately hooked on gaming once more. Only, he was and always had been terrible at gambling.
Their savings rapidly depleted. His mother picked up extra shifts and another job, and their father returned home late at night, if at all. The brothers split chores between themselves, cared for their little sister, and carried on their usual routines, minus their parents. A long two years passed, filled with the late night arguments of their parents. On the day his mother finally decided to put an end to everything, there was a knock on the door.
His father had gotten into a lot of trouble with the wrong kind of people during his nights at the casino, enough trouble that they sent men after him to receive payment for his growing debt, among other expenses. The siblings huddled in the closet of the eldest's bedroom, waiting for the intruders to leave. Raised voices turned into cries of distress, and two gunshots was all it took for a suffocating silence to overtake the house. They ransacked the house for valuables and found three children clinging to each other in the closet.
They would have been finished off had Elys not spoken up. "We can pay! With time!" The men laughed at the idea of children paying off the debt of their father, but Elys persisted. "I can sing." There should have been a we, but Elys focused on highlighting himself in hopes that his siblings would have less of a burden to bear (the eldest had plenty to say about that later). While singing itself was not much of a talent, they decided to humor him. "Then sing."
He had chosen an old, mournful folksong in that moment, and the smooth, controlled voice, despite coming from such a young body, immediately captured the attention of the intruders. Tears rolled down their cheeks, even though they had nothing to cry about. Once they regained their composure, the siblings were rounded up and toted from their home, now in shambles.
The debt kept piling up in the years that followed. It became their shackles, tying them to the gang that operated the local casinos and clubs. Rather than interest, they added on every penny they had to spend on the siblings, be it food, clothes, homeschool materials (that they had to teach themselves) or the hefty chunk of change for instruments. Once the brothers were old enough, they began performing and became and immediate hit among the regulars.
They did what they could to prevent their sister from getting roped into this, whether it meant her feigning sickness more times than they could count (they refused to call in a doctor), claiming she had lost her voice, or intentionally playing terribly when they were under surveillance. She was sixteen when she was finally freed from their situation after Elys convinced their captors to release her. How? He refused to tell them.
She was alive and free, and that was all that mattered. They sent her off with a portion of the tips they had been keeping hidden for that exact day. It was enough for her to get a cheap place to stay while she figured out how to start her life.
They began exchanging letters, but gradually they received less and less from their sister.
In time, Elys found himself all alone. The person in charge decided that they should do solo acts instead of always being on stage at the same time. After a few months of performing at different times, it was decided that his brother's talents would be better suited elsewhere. He began seeing his brother less and less, usually due to scheduling conflicts. That is, until he stopped seeing his brother altogether.
They claimed he ran away and cursed his name. Since it sounded like he got away alive, Elys was relieved, and that was all that kept him going.
In recent years, Elys has wormed his way into a higher position by becoming the favorite of the new leader of the gang. The tight hold they had on his leash loosened ever so slightly, just enough that he was allowed to roam around (under escort). Their songbird was allowed to stretch his wings so long as he always returned to his cage, and that was more than enough for Elys to be satisfied for a time. Once he found a flyer for Blackstorm, however, things began to change. Every now and then, he would give his escort the slip. At first it was to attend a meeting for Blackstorm, but it soon changed into a means of enjoying his temporary freedom.
As long as he returned and sang a sweet tune, he was forgiven.
He longs for the sea.
