INSIDE
LIKES:
- Books — Simon loves to read. The first book he ever started to read voluntarily (that wasn't a children's book), was the Bible.
- Guns — He is just fascinated by them. The Second Amendment. What more is there to say?
- Authority — The last thing anyone ever needed: a cop who likes his authority just a little too much. He manages to get away with a lot because he's not simply an officer, but a sergeant, but he has used his badge a lot to get what he wants.
- Forests — Simon loves to go for a walk to clear his head.
- Sports — Both watching them (in person, not on a damned TV!) and playing them. Baseball, soccer, running, swimming, you name it, he does it.
- The serenity that can only be found in a church — Yup. That religious trauma goes deep, but to him it's a religious experience, whether you're a sinner or not.
- Typewriters and writing — he miiiiight be planning on writing a book about his goal to cleanse the world of gifteds, but only right before he dies.
DISLIKES:
- Gifteds — Norah betrayed him, and birthed the spawn of Satan. Little Gabriel was a demon in Simon's eyes, which would lead him to consider himself the devil for having allowed 'God' to curse him with this child.
- Cats — They have a mind of their own, and Simon doesn't like that. Norah always wanted a cat, and he told her no time and time again. He simply doesn't like them. At least dogs do what you tell them to do. Cats just show you their butthole and call it a day.
- Smoking, drugs — Why would you voluntarily mess up your life?
- Homosexuality — It's just not natural. It's Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. (I threw up a little while writing this)
- TV (and most technology) — Read a book! He only uses computers and a phone because he has to.
- The beach — All that sand.
- Apples — They remind him of how Eve betrayed Adam, and how Norah betrayed him.
STRENGTHS:
Strong leader — As mentioned above, Simon loves authority, and he also loves taking on the role of the leader in a group, any kind of group.
Confident — He is a very confident man. He finds himself attractive and doesn't really care whether other people share that opinion. He never speaks with hesitation in his voice or mind, and stands behind his choices and decisions.

WEAKNESSES:
Religious trauma — Simon doesn't know quite how to feel anymore. He grew up as a devoted Christian, but everything that happened with Norah and his family has made him stray from the religious path. It's easy to make him feel uncomfortable and annoyed by talking about religion, because he doesn't know whether he still wants to believe in God or not. He sees Gifted as a curse from God, rather than from the Devil, and had turned around the roles in his mind: now he is the Devil, and it is his duty to cleanse the world from the gifted. He will start with Los Eurosia, though.

OVERALL PERSONALITY: "The Devil is real. And he's not a little red man with horns and a tail. He can be beautiful. Because he's a fallen angel, and he used to be God's favorite."
Just from looking at him, you would never know just how messed up Simon is. He's very aware of what he does, which allows him to put on a show for everyone, by pretending to still be who he was before Norah. He is kind and likeable, always willing to help someone out, and he takes his job as a police sergeant very seriously. Solving crime is his number one priority, both on the job and in his personal life. The latter is something that he keeps secret from just about everyone, though...

HISTORY: [CW: murder & murder of a minor]
John was born on the 7th of July, 1990. His parents were two loving people who had long wished for a child and saw John's birth as a blessing. His parents were devote Christians and decided to name their little bundle of joy after Jesus' apostle, John.
And so it all begun. John went to church every Sunday, sang in the choir and spent a lot of time playing with the other kids in the church. He even helped out the Pastor during the masses, and felt God's warmth in every day he lived.
John was a good student and got good grades. He had a lot of friends and hobby's and was never bored. William and Paige were very proud of him, and told all their friends what a good son they had. Again, they truly felt like God had personally blessed them with the boy.
High school wasn't a big deal for him either, but it was the first time people had commented on his beliefs. They couldn't believe a modern day young man was still so religious, especially because he knew the Bible well and was able to recite passages from the heart.
There was one girl in his class that never said anything when the others would question him about his upbringing and his faith. Norah Evans was a quiet, but beautiful girl. He noticed she would come watch his baseball games, and one day she sat next to him in church.
I could pretend that it wasn't a typical romantic story, but it was. The two fell in love and started dating. By the time they were eighteen, John proposed to her. They got married at nineteen, and moved to Prescott, Arizona, closer to where Norah's grandparents lived. Her parents had died young, and she wanted to spend more time with her remaining family.
And everything was amazing. Really. Nothing else could be said. John went to police academy while Norah worked at a grocery store. They both worked hard, and it paid off. John became a police officer, and Norah got pregnant. Finally they would be having a child, something they had talked about a lot. And now, at twenty-one, they would soon be parents.
The delivery went smoothly, and finally John was able to understand what his parents must have felt when they first held him. Norah and he decided on the name Gabriel, the archangel. But little did John know that the book of Revelations hadn't predicted the apocalypse of the entire world, but his personal apocalypse.
Something was wrong with Gabriel, to put it lightly. Sometimes, suddenly there were two of him in the crib, then three. At one point in time, John walked into the room and it was entirely filled with copies of his son. Everywhere he looked, there was a baby staring back at him. And it weren't normal babies. They had multiple limbs, and some had multiple heads. He slammed the door shut and - don't tell him I told you - he cried. A lot. The Devil was here, and he had claimed Gabriel.

They had multiple limbs, and some had multiple heads. He slammed the door shut and - don't tell him I told you - he cried. A lot. The Devil was here, and he had claimed Gabriel.
He became extremely depressed and wasn't able to get out of bed for at least a couple of months. He didn't go to church on Sundays anymore. If God existed, then why would he allow the Devil to possess his son? Norah tried to get him out of bed, but nothing helped.
Finally, she got him to leave the house and go back to work. John had only been at work for a couple of hours when his boss told him to go home and rest. He could tell that John still wasn't ready to come back, and John obeyed. He didn't call Norah in advance, because he either forgot or didn't have the mental strength to even remember. He put his keys in the lock, turned it, opened the door, walked through it, closed it again, turned the keys again, and walked over to the baby room. Gabriel was almost a year old now, so maybe John could face the kid again without these delusions. His psychiatrist - that Norah had forced him to go to, he didn't believe in all that psychiatrist/medicine bullshit - had told him the things he had seen had been delusions. However, when he walked into the room, his jaw dropped. This time Gabriel wasn't duplicated, but his wife was. She was ironing on one side of the room, and playing with Gabriel in the rocking chair on the other side of the room. He blinked a few times, and finally - finally - ge hot the confirmation that he wasn't crazy, and wasn't imagining things.
"It isn't what it looks like", Norah had told him, and he had scoffed. He knew it wasn't what it looked like. He wasn't imagining these things, they were actually happening. Norah begged him to listen, and after refusing and spending three nights at a hotel, he returned home and allowed her to speak.
She told him everything about the Gifteds, and about how her family was Gifted. Once she was done, he nodded, picked up the phone and called her grandparents. He told Norah they would have dinner together, and that he would reassure them that he was okay with their gifts. She was beyond relieved and started cooking for them.
They had a pleasant evening. John put up a great act, smiling, nodding and cooing at Gabriel whenever Norah handed him the boy. Then, John excused himself - he needed to use the bathroom real quick - and when he returned, he had a loaded gun in his hand. To this day he is still not sure whether her grandparents even had the time to realise what was happening or not, because he shot them from behind. However, he is still haunted, in the best of ways, by the look in Norah's eyes. The bitch. She got what she had coming. He pointed the gun at the crib, and looked at Norah as he pulled the trigger. He slowly walked over to her, caressed her cheek with the gun and gave her one last kiss on the lips before pointing the gun at her head and firing.
You might ask yourself how John managed to escape. It wasn't difficult. The neighbours weren't home, or hadn't heard anything. They didn't live that close anyway, for they lived in the outskirts of Prescott. And Norah had been stupid enough to put the rug too close to the fireplace. It had caught on fire, and everyone had died in the fire. And what about John's body? The lonely guy who lived closest to them had in fact heard the gun, and had come to check on them, before John had set the house ablaze. He had killed the man, who was about the same age as him and didn't have any living relatives anymore and had put him with the rest of the bodies before finally setting the house on fire.
Shortly after, John moved to Los Eurosia, after he had paid someone to get rid of his past, and his name. John Carter did no longer exist - he had died in that fire with his family. The bodies had been too far gone to determine another cause of death, so the gunshot wounds went unnoticed. The dental records of John's neighbour didn't quite match his, but that paperwork got lost, somehow... So officially, John and his family died in that fire. That's also what his parents know and believe. Everyone just thinks it's a tragedy, and those who don't have taken peace with believing a cop just went crazy and set his house of fire with his family inside. Either way, it worked out, and (so far) nobody has been able to track him down, because everyone genuinely believes John Sanders is dead. And in a way, he was.
He was now Simon Crawford. Parents Gill Crawford and Wanda Crawford. No siblings. Single. A forged police academy degree with his new name. He could start his life all over again. He named himself after an Apostle, to remember where he came from, and to remember what he had learnt: there was no God. There was only the Devil, the Devil wore a badge.
Eleven years have passed since John's death, and in the meanwhile, Simon had sent quite some Gifteds to whatever place their souls went to after they died. He continues his mission, while also taking care of mundane police tasks.
