[Ferris Felwinter]

Every morning or so when Darcy got home from her overnight shift. While she was showering for bed, he was working up a sweat running the loop in West Hook. He wore fancy bone conduction headphones and a navy-blue jacket with reflective strips against the pre-5am morning cold and fog. Running wasn't his favorite hobby or even exercise routine, but he liked being able to get out of the house for a moment, away from everything.

Not that he didn't love his kids and his wife, but some nights were harder than others. Beck was having nightmares after they got her a new bigger mattress and El was pushing the boundaries of staying up late. Which meant even when they should be asleep, he was solo parenting. He knew Darcy found it touch for the handful of hours she was alone with the kids for. He did it every evening and overnight and right now, this was his release. Which was all the sadder because he hated running. 

But the fog was pleasant and West Hook was quiet more mornings, so he could enjoy the damp and the soft sounds of morning that he entirely drowned out with rock music. The sky was a sort of cloudy grey color, much the same as his eyes as the sun was still debating rising. He noticed someone a few blocks up walking some dogs and while he didn't recognize them from behind, he could tell it was a woman. And the dogs looked familiar. He slowed down as he got closer, not wanting to pressure any of the dogs in case they weren't people loves like he was a dog lover. "Morning," he called to let the woman know he was there and then made to move over to jog in the street for a ways. Except he recognized her as he tossed a way. "Is that Naomi Garcia ?"

[attr="class","nikki109"] Naomi wouldn't call herself a morning person by any means. She much preferred dusk. Watching a sun set while it changed the sky into oranges, golds, and purples. Mornings were much too bright usually and required her dragging herself from the warmth and comfort of her bed. [break][break]

However, taking care of dogs kind of required she get up early to take them out for their walks otherwise she'd find far too many accidents. She learned her lesson. If there was one thing that was nice however, it was that mornings were usually fairly quiet. If she got up early enough that is. So after she'd dragged herself out of bed and gotten dressed she pulled her hair into a ponytail and attached four dog leashes to the belt she wore over her top. It made walking as many dogs as she needed to a lot easier when she had her hands free. She plugged in her headphones but kept the volume low so she'd be able to keep an awareness of her surroundings before she headed out with the dogs. [break][break]

She set off on an easy jog while the dogs moved excitedly around her, their tails wagging happily. Naomi had to make sure she kept her pace fairly slow for Brutus. While he would like to be able to run with the others he wasn't as fast with only three legs and would often trip and fall if he tried to move too fast. She noticed a man moving around her but at first Naomi hardly paid attention to him. People often gave her a wide birth when they saw her walking as many dogs as she did. Especially with four very large ones that she currently had with her. She heard the voice just over the sound of her music and offered a quick nod at first in acknowledgement. But hearing her name made her stop and actually pinpoint where she remembered that voice from. [break][break]

Naomi stopped in her tracks, making the dogs tug her a bit at her sudden halt. She pulled her headphones out and turned to the familiar man with a small smile. "Ferris? Well, hey there," she said as she let her headphones rest around her neck. The dogs panted softly, looking between her and the man she'd stopped for. While her three boys stayed close to her side her current foster, Jester, seemed more curious. The Great Dane moved forward to sniff at the man as Naomi chuckled softly. "Sorry, Jester is just real friendly," she said as she pulled a treat from the bag on her hip to get his attention back to her side.

Ferris eyes her belt with the leashes attached. With four dogs, especially big ones, that made a lot of sense. The woman wasn't very large herself, but the canines all seemed well behaved on lead which likely helped keep her on her feet. Still, watching her stop the entire pack was impressive.

He watched her do a double take on how she knew him, reaching up to pull his own headphone down as she stopped and removed her own music. Honestly, he wasn't sure she would remember his name. He'd barely recalled hers. He was trying to get better about that. "Yeah, hey," he returned. "Forgot you lived around here," he said. He looked down at the large Great Dane and held out a hand on the off-chance Jester moved close enough to sniff. But while he was plenty at ease around the dogs, looking them over, he didn't move closer to her and her dogs' bubble. "No worries. Used to have a German Shepherd myself, actually. Been a while." He missed having an animal around. But he hadn't been able to take care of himself, let alone a pet. And then between Darcy and the kids and work...

"You walk dogs, right? These all yours?" He would guess not but beyond remembering some passing casual conversations, he hadn't talked to her much. He'd hand a few files over but follow up was more her job than his. "Oh, how's that girl from last week? The redhead?" he asked softly, trying to stay vague.

[attr="class","nikki109"] If she were being honest Naomi forgot that Ferris lived near by as well. The two of them didn't exactly interact very much. They spoke enough at work for her to recognize his face and voice. As well as the general feeling of his aura. She was also fairly certain he was married? "Yeah, I live not far down the road," she said with a small smile. "How's your wife doing?" Naomi wasn't usually great at small talk but it was normally something she knew she had to put up with. She watched Jester sniff at his hand before licking his palm, only stepping away when he realized Naomi had treats. [break][break]

When asked if all of the dogs were hers she chuckled and shook her head. "Oh no, I'm just fostering Jester for right now," she clarified as she pet the Great Dane's large head. Though his question about one of her cases made Naomi pause to think. The redhead...then it clicked. "Oh! She's doing okay, got her set up in a new apartment for the moment and got her a new job that's not far from her place thankfully." Generally speaking Naomi gauged "okay" a little differently than most people. She had to in her line of work. It was better than saying someone was okay as they could be. [break][break]

"Have you thought about getting a new dog?" She asked curiously as Brutus sniffed at the treat bag. "I know our work gets kind of crazy but it's always nice having a furry baby to come home to," she said as she pet to top of Chance's head. "I wouldn't suggest four big ones though," she said with a soft laugh.

Ferris wasn't the sort for small talk either. But one got used to it, working in a big enough office where you never quite knew everyone. He was glad Naomi remembered at least something about him that she broke some of the awkwardness. “Busy,” he said. “She's working a night shift at the moment which is rough on everyone. Mostly her.” And the kids. He knew Darcy loved her job though and while he might suggest she ask for a schedule change, he knew she was doing what she loved.

He watched the Great Dane lick his hand, a smile there and then gone. He missed having a dog. Ferris made a soft noise of interest as she mentioned fostering. He'd do that too if he didn't think the kids would get attached.

“Good.” The detective worked with all sorts, as anyone any age could show signs of a Gift. Many they knew about but there were always those on the run or simply moving around. Not all cases were people in need of any sort of help and Ferris would argue their help could be very lacking. But there were times that Naomi’s work came in handy. Even if ‘okay’ was just okay, it was better than the girl’s previous family tracking her down to drag her home or worse, a Hunter finding her. Long as she didn't cause too much commotion with her Gift. “Better than the alternative,” he agreed.

He checked his phone for the time. He needed to be sure he was home before the kids really got up and bothered their mother who would have just gotten to sleep. He gestured for her to continue walking and he would tag along. It might not be the jog he was planning on but even a wall was good. “Sometimes. Would prefer a bigger dog.” He was used to German shepherds and Pyrenees. Ferris wasn't really used to talking about himself even a little, which left things a bit awkward. “Not a Great Dane though,” he added, looking Jester over. For a massive dog, he seemed behaved enough, if still a big puppy. He already had two kids to clean up after and didn't need another. “Who are the rest of your kids?” He asked, gesturing at the rest of her pack to be introduced.
