OVERALL APPEARANCE: Misti has a sweet and guileless face, which tends to make people think she's more friendly and open to conversation than she really is. Her wide brown eyes are framed with dark lashes and soft, straight eyebrows, and her dark brown hair flows down to her chest. She has light, warm-toned skin. Unafraid of eye-contact, it’s rare to see her without good posture and her head held high.
She's slightly taller than the average woman and her build is kept slender by jogging around her neighbourhood regularly. She tends to wear a black satin bomber jacket and Doc Martens boots with a fitted top and mom jeans. When she goes to work she changes her style to look more respectable to her clients, donning plain black trousers with a silky blouse and black court shoes.

OVERALL PERSONALITY: Realist / Proud / Empathetic / Private / Loyal / Self-sacrificing
Misti is as human as you can get: full of contradictions and oftentimes unable to identify them. She’s very much a realist and doesn’t believe in ‘supernatural nonsense’, so she’s likely to roll her eyes and say it’s a trick or a prank if she witnesses a gifted using their powers.
To unacquainted people, she tends to come across as quite snobbish. It’s not intentional – she just doesn’t like to entertain conversation with strangers and finds it difficult to hide her exasperation. She hates to ask for help even when it’s obvious to everyone around her that she needs it, and the bluntness in which she responds to others has pushed away many potential friends without her realising.
She’s not completely dense, however. She’s not above admitting when she has done wrong and apologizing for her behaviour when someone calls her out. And if someone were to open up to her a bit, or if she were to learn about them through town gossip, she’d be very capable of putting herself in their shoes and understanding their actions and perspective on the world. She doesn’t always know what the right thing to say is, but she certainly feels for others.
As someone who takes pride in her work, Misti is drawn to talented people. The type of talent is unimportant; someone simply has to show they can do something exceptionally well to garner her interest and respect. But if they return that interest they may have a difficult time developing a deep bond with Misti. She’ll be amicable, sure, and she’s open to talking about the other person as much as they want, but she cringes away from discussing her own past and any topics she deems ‘too heavy’.
Misti will put her personal wishes on the back burner in order to cater to the needs of her loved ones, for example looking after her grandmother rather than going to university. It could be argued that Misti can get too emotionally invested in the lives of the few friends she has, and this contributes to most of the stress in her life – especially if her ‘friends’ realise how much they can take advantage of her. Whether they’ve been stranded on a highway at 3am and need a lift, or whether they need an extra $50 to pay rent, Misti will be there. It would take an enormous betrayal to put an end to her affection.

HISTORY: tw: depression, drug use, stroke
Misti was a miracle baby, which is a nice way of saying she was a mistake. Her middle-aged parents, Fred and Heaven, had decided against having children after countless consultations with doctors and many long evenings considering their options. Still, they were happy to discover Heaven’s pregnancy despite the risks associated with an older woman giving birth. Later they found they need not have worried about the birth itself; it was after Misti was born that the problems began.
Heaven suffered from postnatal depression and to ease the symptoms she reached out to an old friend – the drugs she had dabbled in during her college years. Except the drugs didn’t really help, they just acted as a gateway to stronger stuff. For years Fred desperately tried to hide his wife’s addiction from the city and coax her off the poison, but Heaven needed professional help she was not getting and she had no intention to stop, and thus, shortly after Misti’s fourth birthday, she overdosed.
Fred handled his grief by throwing himself into his soliciting work, home schooling his daughter, and forcing Misti to learn to play and maintain pianos. It was unusual, but better than it would have been if he had thrown himself into the bottom of a bottle or off a cliff. By age eleven she was pretty much a prodigy. But her lifestyle and hours of practice left little time for making friends or arranging playdates with the few kids she met at church. She kept her loneliness to herself, however, and whenever her father asked she would tell him everything was perfect so he didn’t have to worry.
By age sixteen Misti knew she wanted to go to university to become a veterinarian, but that year her paternal grandmother, Margo, suffered from a stroke that left her unable to look after herself. She moved in with Fred and Misti in Westhook, and Misti became her full-time carer while Fred worked extra hours to keep them financially stable.
Misti gave up on her dream of going to university, feeling that she could not abandon her grandmother and leave her father to take care of everything by himself. She earned her GED and continued to look after her grandmother for five years before Margo died from heart failure. Fred quit his job and became a pastor at the church, and Misti moved out to live in The Heights where she pays rent by giving piano lessons and tuning the pianos of the residents of Grey Pebble.
