[attr="class","ig"]This was it. Taking a deep breath, Aurora stood by the front door of who could be the most vital person to the story she was working on. A couple of days ago, there had been a serious storm in a part of Los Eurosia, but it was only within a 20 meter radius and appeared seemingly spontaneously- the whole town was chattering about it, and Aurora had a sneaking suspicion that it wasn’t natural.
She took a deep breath, adjusting her cream colored blazer over her shoulders as neatly as possible. She wanted to make the best impression for the woman she was about to interview; a young lady named Audrey who was certain that she had insider information about the phenomena. Aurora thought back to when they scheduled the interview over the phone; despite sounding a little bit like a conspiracy theorist, the woman did make some valid points that made Aurora curious enough to set up the discussion. As she shifted uncomfortably in her white stilettos, she knocked on the door, crossing her fingers that this evening wouldn’t be a dead end. Aurora despised false leads, even though she knew they were essential to getting the information she needed.
She stood in silence for a minute. That minute turned into two, then five. Aurora furrowed her brow, becoming slightly annoyed and anxious. Audrey hadn’t stood her up, had she? No, that couldn’t have been it… maybe she just gave her the wrong address. Aurora pulled out her phone to check, revealing that she was indeed at the correct address. This was Audrey’s home. She then looked at her battery and winced- 14%. “Damn it,” she said to herself out loud, beginning to scold herself. “You’ve got to keep your phone charged. What if something happens?”
She was about to walk away when she suddenly heard a loud bang inside the house, followed by what sounded like muffled screaming… and squelching. Then silence. Aurora’s heart began to thump out of her chest as the noise subdued into nothing. Aurora wanted to run away, her feet wanted her to, but her will was overrun by her need to know what was happening inside that house. Plus, it hurts to run in stilettos.
Aurora hesitantly, but swiftly crept towards the side of the house where a window was present. The view inside was shrouded by the blinds behind it, but as Aurora squinted her eyes to see through the cracks, what she saw made her stomach drop 200 feet. On the floor laid Audrey, a large gash in her head that was actively spilling blood and a little bit of something else- Aurora almost puked at the pink mass that peeked out of the side of her head. There was no doubt- that was Audrey’s brain.
When Aurora thought she’d already seen the worst, her eyes quivered up to the man standing above her lifeless body. He was a tall, lanky figure with long brown hair that was tangled in his… vines… on the other side of the glass was a creature with hulking black plant growths that churned out of him painfully, all pointed directly towards the dead woman on the floor. But what chilled Aurora the most is when the man grinned slightly, licking his lips.
Aurora needed to do something, anything! She didn’t know what, but something! With that, she jerked forward uncontrollably, hitting her head against the window. The loud thunk that emitted from it made her blood freeze. Horrified, she looked past the blinds again to see that the man was no longer looking at the dead woman on the floor, oh no- he was staring straight into Aurora’s wide, terrified eyes.
“Oh, fuck.”
