WELCOME TO LOS EUROSIA,
Aurora Bernardo Aquino
"Making my way downtown, walking past, faces pass and I'm homebound."
BASICS
NAME: Aurora Aquino
AGE: 27
BIRTHDATE: March 10, 1997
PRONOUNS: she/her
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: Single
OCCUPATION: Journalist
NEIGHBORHOOD: East End
MEMBER GROUP: Human
POWERS:
Gifted Item: Time Controlling Phone - Aurora's phone has a built-in application that simply has three buttons when opened: pause/play, rewind and record. There is nothing else to signify that these buttons can actually do anything, but when any of them are swiped outwards, the button materializes as a glowing projectile that immediately shoots in whatever direction Aurora swiped. Refer to this gif and this gif for reference.
Depending on which button she decides to swipe, these buttons do a variety of things after touching either (1) any living entity, whether human or not, or (2) any object [this doesn't apply to architecture or nature]:
- The Pause/Play button will freeze/unfreeze an entity in time. All movements are completely frozen and the person will no longer age or get hungry, as they are now separated from time and frozen in space. Once performing the same action on the same entity twice, they will be unfrozen. During this time, the entity can be moved around by someone else, but they will continue to stay as still as a statue, including any other elements of their body/clothes. For example, if a female runner with long hair got paused with her hair in the air, her hair will continue to float in the air for the remainder of being paused, and if she is picked up by another person, she will remain as heavy as she was but stay frozen in the exact position she was frozen. In this state, the subject's structural properties remain the same, and they can still be injured during this time (someone can cut them, but no blood will come out).
- The Reverse button causes the afflicted person to rapidly reverse all their previous actions. This effectively wipes memories that they have made up until they are no longer being reversed. This also affects aging, reversing it for how little or long the time afflicted is. This process can be sped up by repeating the action multiple times, going 1x faster for every reverse projectile. One reverses the target at 1x speed, 2 at 2x speed, 3 at 3x speed, and so on (max is 10x speed). The pause/play button cancels out the reverse button.
- The Record button creates a stationary camera in the shape of the record button, as shown in the first reference gif. A separate tab will then appear on the app, allowing Aurora look through the perspective of this camera. She can set up a max of 6 different cameras in whatever location she pleases. After a camera is placed, a function in the app is then added to remove the camera whenever she wants.
Without her phone, Aurora has no powers and is completely human.
THE LOOKS
HEIGHT: 5'2"
WEIGHT: 126 lbs.
HAIR COLOR: Brown
EYE COLOR: Light Brown/Amber
FACE CLAIM: Kathryn Bernardo
OVERALL APPEARANCE: Aurora has two sides to how she likes too look: casual and flashy, depending on how she feels.
On her casual side, you'll find her wearing something similar to a nice pair of jeans and a slightly oversized coffee-brown sweater, her hair slightly frizzy and her face with very minimal makeup. These kinds of looks are designated towards normal days when she doesn't feel extraordinarily emotional in any way.
On her flashy side, she will be a sight to see when walking by on the street: confidently strutting by in a shiny dress or skirt, carefully ironed hair and a glittery pair of stilettos. This is usually complemented with a nice purse, not brand-name but still overall noteworthy. Most of the clothes are usually things that someone couldn't find in the East End. These kinds of looks are when she rolls out the right side of the bed, feeling confident.
There is some in-between with her looks, depending on how she feels when waking up in the morning, but she overall has a wide range of style to compliment her different sides of personality.

OVERALL PERSONALITY: Aurora is a determined and hard-working woman, believing nothing is handed to you in life. One thing that's held steadfast in her life is that she needs to work for everything she has; nothing is ever just handed to you except if its a gift. Because of this, Aurora has an intimacy towards gifts and people who gives them, believing it is one of the best ways to strengthen a relationship, platonic or not.
Aurora has somewhat of a fixed mindset, unwavering in her values unless someone is very convincing, and even then she is hesitant to stray away from what she's always known. Aurora is someone who always likes to stay inside of her comfort zone when it comes to things she holds close to her heart. To Aurora, dogs will always be obnoxious, narwhals will always not exist, cars will always be overrated, and gifts will always be the best love language. No one can tell her otherwise. If someone tries to continually change her views and isn't good at it, she will defend them like an Iron Golem and eventually shut the other person out of her life completely. So don't be that person.
This doesn't mean she doesn't like to try new things outside of this, though, she is actually quite adventurous. Aurora will go on the new roller coaster happily, waving her arms high. She will eat something she's never tried before, giving her honest opinion on how it tastes.
One of Aurora's main passions is writing. On the exterior, she may look fine, but lots of times she gets overwhelmed, whether its from work or something else. One thing to help her vent out her emotions is writing, specifically a fiction book she's working on. She uses the inspiration of the troubles of her life and makes them interesting on the pages, which helps relieve some stress.
Overall, Aurora's two sides can be summed up as serious and fun. She can be quite professional, an authoritative demeanor at work, top of her field. On the other side you have a kind Aurora who wants to have a drink with you. Just don't try and sway her from her core beliefs, because it will not end well.

HISTORY: Aurora was born as the oldest of three kids, which she wishes didn't happen. She grew up in a loving family, but always had the crushing feeling that she had to live up to the older child expectations from her parents and entire family, close and extended. Aurora was always aware of this in the back of her head as she went through her childhood, doing her absolute best in school while juggling multiple extracurriculars at a time. For multiple years up until her senior year of high school, she never felt "truly" happy.
But that didn't mean she didn't have some joyful moments along the way. Growing up in the big, expansive city of Boston, she had many friends and knew the city like the back of her hand, which gave her a sense of security. She also had lots of family that lived in the city; an almost endless stream of Titos and Titas that she also had to please. While lots of good memories were shared, Aurora never felt like she could ever "find" herself. It was like her true personality was buried underneath the multiple others she put on for others, waiting to be discovered someday.
Aurora found herself turning to two things during that time: God and writing. Aurora loved to write, ever since she wrote her first poem as a first grader she knew it was something she wanted to do later in life. Along with that, her family had firm Protestant beliefs, and because that's what she grew up with, so did she. It was the one thing in life that seemed solid, even if doubt did sometimes creep into her mind. It was one of her main motivations to push, keep going. If she could do it for God, she could do anything. Well, except for having super speed and the like, right? Right?
Aurora walked confidently down the halls of her school, ready to conquer senior year and finish strong. It had merely been the first week of school when something happened that would change her perception of the world forever. Aurora had been peeing in one of the bathrooms near the back of the school, a restroom where barely anybody walked into because it was farther than the rest. It was a particularly nice restroom, too, and Aurora thought it was a shame that not many people used it. She was about to get off the toilet when something caught her eye in the crack of the door. There was a small flash of light, and then there was someone there- a student. Aurora cautiously creeped over to look through the crack of the door to investigate: it was just a student fixing her fair. Nothing to worry about. Aurora was about to turn her head away and open the door when suddenly, the student disappeared in another flash of light, and the entrance door to the bathroom slammed against the wall as a bright trail of lightning blazed out the bathroom.
Aurora had no idea what she had just seen, but it couldn't have been anything logical. It couldn't have been anything spiritual either. It couldn't have been some kind of gift from God, and she was pretty sure the devil couldn't do stuff like that either. She seemed ghastly when she came home that day, not talking to anyone about what she had seen. Over the next month, she'd eventually fade out of Christianity, but sort herself back out and get back into school full swing.
Aurora graduated high school and eventually got accepted into MIT, which was a huge win for her parents, but it didn't seem right for Aurora. Her parents had always wanted her to study in a field that would make a lot of money, so that she could care for them in their older years of age. At first, Aurora understood. It was respect for her parents and a part of her culture to do so. But as she grew older, she wasn't so sure anymore. In Aurora's mind, a major is a big chunk of what defines a person. After a whole month of thinking, contemplating, and arguing with her parents, she turned down the spot and instead travel to Los Eurosia, California, to study a degree in journalism. It was a perfect mix of her writing ability and her technical mindset, and that's what felt right to her.
Aurora's parents were livid, but couldn't stop her, so off she flew. She didn't have much money and couldn't afford a house, but luckily her Tita Kristina had an apartment in the East End that she could live in while she went through school. Aurora didn't know Kristina that well beforehand, only that she was widowed from her mother's older brother, who had passed away when she was a kid. But as the four years went by, she formed an intimate relationship with Kristina, and shortly they were as close as best friends.
Aurora's graduation day was the best and worst day of her life. The graduation itself is probably one of Aurora's closest core memories of all time, she can vividly remember throwing her cap in the air and cheering with the rest of the graduates. But as she was walking home, she only caught a tiny glimpse of a man with a long moustache before blacking out. The next thing she remembered after that is gaining consciousness again on the ground of the same street, her environment different than before. Before it was night, and now it was day? Something was up.
Upon coming home, by the look of extreme relief on Kristina's face, Aurora knew she had been out for a long while. Kristina explained that she had disappeared for a whole week, with everyone she knew in Los Eurosia looking for her, including the police. Aurora herself seemed pretty confused with the entire situation, and a little spiteful at losing a week of her life, but was glad to be back home.
Around a day later, when she was job hunting for Journalist positions in town, she noticed something different about her phone. There was a new application on her phone, one that she hadn't downloaded before- and one that she couldn't delete. Upon opening it, she saw the three buttons there, as if waiting eagerly for her to do something. She tapped on them. Nothing happened. She blew on it. Still nothing happened. Aurora had began to worry a virus might have infected her phone, when Kristina walked into the room as Aurora swiped the reverse button outwards to see if it would do something.
Much to Aurora's surprise, a large purple reverse symbol materialized and shot out of the phone directly at Kristina. When it touched her, it attached to her and Kristina began to walk backwards, the tune she'd been humming become distorted, as if it was being played backwards. In a moment of panic and trying to fix the situation, Aurora swiped the "pause/play" button at Kristina, and her movement returned as normal as if nothing happened.
Aurora had been almost horrified by the experience, her surprise and disbelief so strong that she tried to get rid of her phone. She'd throw it in the trash, out the window, somewhere new each day, but each morning it would appear by her bedside nightstand without a scratch on it. After a week of trying, Aurora gave up. It was this time when she remembered her encounter with the girl in the bathroom. After all these years, Aurora had been brushing it off trying to forget it, but maybe now it could be completely possible that the impossible was possible. That girl could have very possibly had super speed, and maybe still have it.
Aurora took this to heart, always cautious from then on out. The years progressed, she found a job in journalism and excelled in it, and eventually accepted her phone as something she had to live with, and eventually even normal. She began to use it as self defense, learning it's tactics and gimmicks until she knew how to utilize it like a weapon.
You'll still find her in Los Eurosia today, contentedly writing and living her life to the fullest. She doesn't keep in contact with her parents anymore, but Aurora's come to accept that as she makes new friends.
