I figured it out The bigger the river, The bigger the drought [attr="class","MADS"]
Nihilist was something that Tomas and Mason had both called Maddie over the years. Tomas told her she was too serious, that she didn’t live enough. Mason told her that she should dream bigger, but he never really pushed her. They both understood where it came from, the reasons why she was like this.
Dreams and wishes were never fulfilled. If she didn’t have high expectations, then she couldn’t be let down. It applied to people as well as her life in general. Maddie had learned that expecting nothing was the best way to protect herself. Not that she didn’t break her own rules occasionally, when she felt like the risk was worth it.
“I guess.” Maddie shrugged, not wanting to argue that it was easy to know what was or wasn’t realistic based on experience. Sure, she’d flirt in a bar or with certain customers, knowing that it would benefit her. If she wasn’t certain or thought she’d come out on the losing end, she tended to play it safe.
She had been done with the silverware for a bit now, and when she looked around her manager wasn’t at the front anymore. She wasn’t sure if he’d gone to the office or back into the kitchen, but it meant she had to keep an eye out for anyone who was ready to leave again, instead of continuing to slack off just sitting there chatting.
Noah asked about tips, which was a fair enough question. Some places pooled their tips, and others didn’t, and it wasn’t always apparent which places were which. She was lucky that they didn’t do that where she worked, they only shared when they had split work on a table or on the rare occasions when they had someone there bussing tables for them instead of cleaning them up themselves. Then it was only fair that they shared some of what they earned with the busser.
“No, we don’t have to do any sneaky handshake or anything here.” She laughed and shook her head. “We don’t tip pool or anything here.” She confirmed as she stood up to go to the register and cash out his check so she could bring back his change.
Noah St CloudNo worries! I’m slow anyway. And I agree, this seems ready to wrap up. [newclass=.MADS b]color: #702963;[/newclass]
