Acker was sitting at his desk, his head resting on it. There were blueprints and notes all over the desk and walls. It was a round room where in the middle there was a screen. On the screen there was a 3D representation of the mad scientist's house with various notes. Suddenly, the screen turned read and a warning message appeared followed by a loud noise. Acker rose his head vigorously, a blueprint stuck on his cheek as if it was glued on his face " Zip it!" he yelled over the noise while removing the blueprint from his face. The noise stopped, but the warning message was still there. As a force of habit, his hand went to his dark glasses and put them on while spinning around in his chair, he stopped once he was facing the screen. The screen started showing security footage from the security drones he had left around the forest. Some of the footage came from official drones that Acker had made for the town when he had been hired to set up security cameras around the forest, but the most interesting footage came from his own personal drones. The most impressive drones' feature wasn't their ability to record high quality footage, it was their stealth mode, basically they were virtually invisible. No magic involved, no cloak of invisibility, Acker had managed to do this by using his power on specific metamaterials. It was thanks to the stealth mode that the drones successfully got close enough to the action. There was a group of people searching for something, or better, someone " The Shapeshifter" the footage was showing that infamous wound on the animal the group was after. They seemed well armed and well trained. Acker willed for the footage to focus on the group's weapons " Those are not tranquillizers" the weapons were meant to kill. The mad scientist felt the urge to intervene because he didn't want to lose an asset. However, Acker also felt something that he wished he didn't, he wanted to protect Sasha. It was unwelcome, but Acker wasn't as heartless as he seemed to be which he blamed his family for. The floor trembled and then Acker left the round room to walk into the armoury. He wore a black protective light armour and brought some weapons with him in suitcases. Then he left his manor on his motorcycle with the suitcases secured on the back. Some of his machines were reaching the forest too, but following their own routes to not raise any attention. He also called some of his men. One of the lenses was showing him the live footage while he was driving to the forest. The group was still after Sasha, sometimes shooting, sometimes hiding. Acker logged the group's position based on the security drones nearest to the group and drove as close as possible without alerting the group. His men were waiting for him " Close by" one of them pointed to their left. Acker's men were also wearing light armour and were armed. The machines were still en route, it was difficult to reach the forest under the radar, especially for his machines. Sasha couldn't wait. The footage showed him that the group had just shot again, their weapons were extremely silent which caught Acker's interest. The security drones were still sending footage, so Acker knew where the group was, based on that Acker ordered his men to surround the group. While his men were leaving to reach their positions, Acker got his weapons out and wore them " What the...?" the footage was showing that the group had suddenly disappeared, afterwards Acker could hear screams. He switched to the men's body-cameras: the group were shooting at them. Somehow the group had disappeared into thin air for them to reappear again, Acker's men had suddenly found themselves surrounded and under fire. Acker started running to their position " Go after the Shapeshifter! We take care of them!" some of his men had been killed, but some were shooting back. However, the mad scientist was there to make sure to not lose his asset. So, he went after the group who was hunting down the shapeshifter. @sasha

Sasha had sensed the humans stalking him long before they had actually attacked, but they had been persistent, and Sasha had been unable to avoid them for long. They were just too persistent. They rather reminded him of that extremely frustrating human, Metal-Leader, who had caught him not so long ago - except these ones clearly intended to kill him. Sasha had sensed their killing intent from a distance, from the moment the coyote pack he had been hunting with had bolted. Animals, after all, had a sense for bad intentions, and these humans reeked of it. When the humans had pursued, and he had found it impossible to escape their chase, he had given in. The collar around his neck, which had haunted him ever since he had escaped Metal-Leader... with great reluctance, he had activated that device the human had added to it, calling for help. It's this or get hurt, maybe killed, he knew. Still in his coyote form, he crouched under a bush, teeth bared as he watched the hunters coming closer. He recognized their movements. These were not inexperienced fools hoping to snag easy prey, not like the usual hunters who came this way. They were practiced killers, used to stalking dangerous enemies. Used to dealing with his kind, perhaps? Who knew. Sasha didn't particularly care. They were a threat who wouldn't leave him alone, which meant that, if he could, he would have to kill them. Or die trying. His teeth bared as he watched the hunters hurry by, following the trail of the pack he had been with. Perhaps they thought he would have ran with them. But Sasha knew better; a pack left more obvious trails. Besides, if the coyotes caught wind that he was the one the hunters were after, it was possible they would turn on him. He wasn't a true pack member after all; he just showed up to help hunt once in a while, and was barely tolerated. He shifted into a dog, curling his lip as he stalked after them silently. One of them seemed to hear a sound and split off from the rest. In a heartbeat Sasha dashed forwards, leaping high to sink his teeth into the man's throat with a growl. The man gave a cry, abruptly cut off as Sasha's jaws closed. Much easier than Metal-Leader. None of those metal things getting in my way. The other men, hearing their companion's cry, spun and shot, but Sasha had already shifted into a cat and dodged away with a hiss, darting up the nearest tree and leaping from branch to branch, relying on the swaying branches to conceal his movements and make it harder for the hunters to get an accurate shot. A bullet hit a branch just behind him as he leapt by, making him hiss as shards of bark struck his hips and hind legs, leaving small scratches that stung. He ignored them. Better a few scratches than one of those bullets - or death-thorns as Sasha had heard one of the coyote's bark as they'd fled. As he leapt over a particularly large gap, having managed to outrun his pursuers for the time being - seriously, why use two legs when it was so slow? - he spotted Metal-Leader below him, and dropped from the tree to land beside him with a disgruntled hiss and a lash of his tail. ' Took you long enough,' his every mannerism seemed to say, his eye narrowed. He seemed to be a very different shapeshifter from the terrified wreck in the mansion; this was his domain, and while humans weren't his usual opponents, he was used to fighting for survival. These humans and their desire to kill him were creatures he understood and could cope with far better than the human who had captured him. Still, as before he lamented not having a stronger form... killing humans as a dog, coyote or bobcat would be tough without the element of surprise on his side. Acker grabbed one of his pistols and turned around when he heard someone or something falling next to him. Was that a cat? Acker moved his gun away from the cat. It wasn't just a cat. It was the cat: collar, wound. Acker let out a sigh "I almost shot you!" that would have been ironic considering that he was there to protect Sasha and not kill them. "Okay, please, shift into something more menacing, I want to pet you" Zeus and Apollo seemed nowhere to be found. Acker had to leave the Lads behind because everything had happened so fast, but his other men, the backup, were going to bring the Lads with them along with some other machines. Meanwhile, the men already on site were still shooting back. The ones who weren't dead at least. Acker produced a little ball from a pocket and opened his hand. The pocket ball floated next to Acker "Stealth mode, check the area" the pocket ball became invisible to the eye and started checking the area for the hunters. Acker could see what the pocket ball could see. "These hunters..." the pocket ball was reporting that the enemy wasn't around so far "...they know that you are a Shapeshifter, I think they can detect you the same way I can, by the collar and wound" he pointed at them "Oh by the way, you kept the collar and you used it, I'm touched!" it had been a mistake to tell them about the collar, but sometimes he found himself wearing the family's goodie-two-shows. Acker suddenly switched back to the hunters subject "Unless they have someone in their group who can detect shapeshifters, or specific odours or individuals" he was theorising, his brain couldn't help it. He didn't seem worried that they could be ambushed at any moment, although he was perfectly aware of the situation they were in. The pocket ball warned him that one of the hunters was coming from behind. Acker grabbed his pistols and willed them to search for the target. He let his power guide the weapons. He let the weapons guide his hands. There! Acker shot armour piercing bullets into the hunter's armour. The hunter was pushed back by the impact, but the armour seemed to have done its job, but Acker didn't seem worried. What? Who was gonna think that Acker would use just normal bullets? Common bullets didn't sell as well. The two bullets in the hunter's armour chest plate started releasing a concentrated dose of electroshock. The hunter's body was convulsing by the electricity. It lasted only a few seconds, but it was enough. The hunter was unconscious "For you my pet" the my pet part was a joke, reference to the fact that they were a house-cat or looked like one. However, he was really offering the unconscious hunter to Sasha to do as they wished. Kill? Spare? Acker was entertained by this...yes, Acker had fun in dangerous situations, situations that challenged him...he needed therapy for sure. The pocket ball informed him that other hunters were closing in "We need to move out" Acker informed Sasha. He started carefully moving out from their current position and looked over his shoulder to check that Sasha wasn't staying behind.

Sasha gave a snort at the man's retort, having leapt aside the moment Metal-Leader's gun had turned towards him, just to be safe. He shifted to his coyote form again, baring his blood-stained teeth at the human in what could almost be called a grin, before turning back to watch as the 'stealth ball' disappeared from view. He was glad these machines were on his side now, they were already proving useful. So, they know what I am. That knowledge wasn't really a surprise, given the fact he had shifted in full view of some of them just moments ago, and it didn't make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things. For whatever reason, they wanted Sasha dead, so that meant Sasha wanted them dead equally as much. The mention of the collar made him growl again, this time more bad-tempered. Yes, he had kept it. Yes, he had used it. But this was an emergency. Besides, if Sasha got really lucky, this man would kill most of the hunters, then be killed himself so Sasha could finish off whoever remained. Nobody would know his secret anymore then, and the whole problem would be resolved. If he got lucky. The coyote's nose sensed the sneaking hunter at almost the same moment as the stealth ball, just lagging a heartbeat behind. To Sasha's frustration the human got there first. The protective outfit seemed to keep the hunter alive, but clearly Metal-Leader was prepared for that, as Sasha could smell he was unconscious from the blows. ' For you, pet.' The phrase made Sasha whirl to snap angrily at Metal-Leader, a clear warning to never refer to him as a pet again, before lunging at the unconscious hunter and ending his life unceremoniously with a swift bite to the neck. Another enemy to never bother him again. He lifted his head, baring his teeth at Metal-Leader again in what was this time very clearly not a grin, but another warning. I don't hesitate to kill. I do it daily to survive. Shaking the blood from his jaws he trotted after Metal-Leader, pausing only to scrape dirt on the dead hunter with disdain. It was a shame to leave such a large kill behind, but he knew that at this time remaining to defend the kill would be too dangerous. He moved lightly, keeping his senses alert for any more skulking foes, prepared to react in a heartbeat to any attack, surprise or otherwise. //OOC: Yep he shifted into a cat! "Wohoo, someone is touchy about the subject" he joked about the pet thing, but then he became serious when Sasha didn't hesitate killing the hunter "Survival, I get it" was he going to be next? Was Sasha going to kill him after the hunters had been dealt with? Acker felt a smirk forming on the corner of his mouth. If Sasha hit first then he would hit back. Suddenly, Acker felt his power connect to the Lads "The boys are here" his men had brought them as instructed. He willed them to find him. Meanwhile, everything seemed too calm. Acker had done rescue missions before so his men were trained as well as him, so he felt uneasy that nothing was happening. Like calm before the storm. Then everything happened all at once. First, Acker felt his power drawing back from the stealth ball, meaning that the ball had been destroyed. Next, someone teleported on top of Acker and started strangling him. This hunter not only could teleport, but he was also stronger than most. It wouldn't take long for the hunter to snap Acker's neck. He couldn't even breath. Acker tried to reach for his guns, but he couldn't move. Another hunter was using their power to immobilise Acker, a hunter hidden somewhere. Metal-Leader didn't have much time left. The hunters were going after Sasha once they were done with Acker and the henchmen wouldn't help Sasha if their boss died. //Do you want me to use they or he for Sasha's pronouns?//

The change in Metal-Leader's mood after Sasha's kill was obvious, and Sasha felt some satisfaction at the idea of having surprised the human. What, had he expected him to hesitate? Humans were animals like any others, just sometimes tougher to kill thanks to those extra weapons of theirs. They died just the same as the prey he hunted on a daily basis, and he didn't feel any remorse for what he had done. Survival. That was all that mattered. The boys are here. That phrase made him perk his ears, recalling those strange, metal dogs that Metal-Leader had had during their last encounter. Those things had been a big part of the reason why Sasha had been caught before, or at least that's what Sasha told himself. But having them on his side was different, and he looked forward to seeing others struggle against them. His teeth bared eagerly at the thought of seeing these hunters falling to the metallic dogs. And then everything went wrong. A hunter appeared abruptly at Metal-Leader's side, and for some reason Metal-Leader wasn't reacting to the choke hold the hunter had put him in. Despite his earlier thoughts of letting Metal-Leader die, Sasha didn't hesitate. With a ferocious snarl he leapt, orange eye full of rage as he took the human by the arm and used his momentum to swing the human away from Metal-Leader. The human's hand slammed over his head, dizzying him as he gave a sharp yelp, but he clung on to the human's arm, clenching his teeth until he felt the bone break. Only then did he release and stumble backwards, teeth bared and hackles up, as the human also stumbled backwards clinging to his now-broken arm. Sasha's growling continued, but he was uncertain what to do next. The strength of the blow upon his head was unmistakable, and he was hesitant to enter another close-quarters battle with such strong prey; his coyote instincts warned him it was a hunt he would fail, and potentially wind up seriously injured from. After all, coyotes weren't exactly the strongest predators around. If only I had a bear, or a cougar! But no sense lamenting over it now. The strong human was injured, and hopefully Metal-Leader could finish him off. Sasha's new priority was finding out why his ally hadn't managed to fend off this attack himself, and he did so by ranging out his senses, searching for any signs of that unusual human-yet-not scent he was slowly learning to recognize. //OOC: Either is fine! Sasha's genderfluid but he doesn't care what others use for him. Nicholas Acker Villin

All Acker could see was the sky above him because he couldn't move a muscle. He felt the hunter's hands release their grip around his throat and he could see Sasha from his peripherals. But, he couldn't move still. The hunter with the injured arm tried to unshield one of Acker's guns, but Acker didn't seem worried about it. The hunter couldn't take the gun out of the holster. The reason was simple: the hunter wasn't Acker or his assistant, so the gun was stuck in the holster. Acker mentally thanked his power. The Lads finally made their entrance. They bit the hunter with the paralysing power and Acker regained control of his body. He stood up and without hesitation took a smaller gun from a smaller holster. Even though the gun was smaller than the two other pistols he had, the smaller gun that looked like a revolver was more powerful. Acker aimed the black revolver at the hunter's head and shot. The shot caused a loud echoing noise, also it caused the death of the hunter. The bullet pierced the hunter's helmet and passed the hunter's skull through and through. This wasn't Acker's first kill, he had killed before and besides this was self-defence. The hunter had tried to kill him after all. There was an unhinged look in Acker's brown eyes. He moved his gaze towards Sasha and then he smiled when there was a howl coming from the Lads, it was their signal for kill. They had killed the other hunter. Acker didn't feel any sympathy or guilt for killing these two hunters because they had attacked first. Killing in self-defence wasn't a crime. Acker substituted the used bullet with a new one, he had some ammo with him in the armour's pockets, then he put the gun back in the holster. Meanwhile, the Lads had reached their owner and amicably jumped at him "Boys!" he petted his Lads for a second or two "Okay, stay on alert, it's not over yet" Acker checked on Sasha "Are you okay? Do you sense anyone coming?" the Lads were sniffing at the hole in the dead hunter's helmet.
Talking came difficult to Acker because of the chocking, but he didn't want to acknowledge it so he was trying to speak like he hadn't just been chocked. Acker was also trying really hard not to cough, but he had been chocked so suddenly he had to go into a coughing fit. His throat hurt and there were red marks where the hunter's hands had been.

Sasha detected the other hunter just a split second after the Lads arrived, but was too slow to take the kill from himself. His hackles rose with some frustration at his slowness, before he shook himself and trotting over to the hunter Metal-Leader had shot, joining the Lads in sniffing the body and huffing when he realized this hunter was also dead. Okay, not having a more powerful shift was becoming really annoying. He absolutely hated the fact he hadn't been able to deal with these two alone. He felt no unease at Metal-Leader's somewhat unhinged appearance; he himself often felt victorious after a successful kill, and as a coyote had on occasion howled with delight when taking down difficult prey. Guilt over a kill was a foolish emotion; hunters who didn't kill would die swift, miserable deaths. With another, soft growl he licked his lips again, cleaning the blood from his jaws once more. His attention turned to Metal-Leader's question and he checked the breeze again, before shrugging. He didn't smell anything but that didn't always mean there wasn't anyone nearby. The scent was carried by the wind, after all, and if these hunters had any brains they would be staying downwind of him, where he would find it harder to trace them. As for whether he was okay, well, he was certainly better than Metal-Leader, though his head stung from the blow the human had delivered. Hearing the human's cough he approached cautiously, growling again with some irritation as he saw the red marks on his neck. With a huff he looked around, eye narrowed as he sought for something in particular. After a few seconds he located it, trotting towards a leafy plant and digging until he was able to get the roots. Then he trotted back to Metal-Leader, grimacing at the scent, dropping it at his feet and shoving it forward with his nose. Wild ginger; often good for inflammation that could cause a sore throat, as Sasha had found out in the past. Nicholas Acker Villin

"Mhh?" Acker made sure that he was wearing his glasses and checked whatever Sasha had brought him "Wild ginger" the roots were edible and had medicinal purposes, at least that was what the wide world web was telling him via his glasses. It also said that he couldn't eat the root whole because it could be toxic, the wild ginger was better used with tea or other beverages. Well, Acker could still eat some of the root, after all he didn't have any water with him.
"This should help with..." he pointed at his throat and crouched to take the root "...thank you" he was about to bite into it when a surveillance drone warned him that hunters were fast approaching "Incoming" he warned Sasha while putting the root away in one of his pockets. The hunters had to have heard the shot.
Acker thought about the wild ginger for a moment, Sasha had probably helped him because she wanted his ally to be able to fight which was understandable. He would have done the same.
"I want to see them find their dead friends" Acker said to Sasha and went into hiding in a position where he had plenty of view of the dead hunters. The Lads looked at Sasha for a moment and then followed Acker. The hunters were probably Gifted, but Acker wanted to risk it. He could be cruel, especially towards people who tried to kill him.
Three hunters reached the area "Finn is dead" one of them announced "Lance too" another hunter announced "They will pay" Acker was smiling because he was enjoying the moment "Find the Shapeshifter!" the hunters were still focused on their mission. Acker was wondering what these hunters' powers were. If any of the hunters survived then Acker would eagerly experiment on them.

Sasha's ear flicked in response to Metal-Leader's thanks, huffing softly in response. In truth, it wasn't even because Metal-Leader was useful that he had done it - listening to a human coughing would have irritated him, and the noise could have drawn in more threats. Given the choice between shoving ginger at the human or trying to tear his throat out to shut him up, Sasha had chosen the option most likely to succeed, all things considered. The fact the root could sometimes be toxic was not something he was even aware of; all he knew was that he had eaten it in the past when suffering from sore throats, and it had done him some good on those occasions without any ill side effects. Perhaps that was because his stomach was used to handling less than ideal foods, like literal garbage. The 'incoming' warning made him huff again, still frustrated that his senses weren't proving the most useful on this occasion. Hunting predators was one of the hardest things he had ever tried to do; those who killed knew best how another killer stalked, after all. Metal-Leader's response to the incoming threat was somewhat surprising though. Leave the bodies for their attackers to find? Sasha wasn't exactly against that, but the idea of lurking close by was one that made him feel uneasy. Many of the hunters weren't just ordinary humans, after all, as had just been proven. The idea of having to face another human-yet-not made him anxious. But Metal-Leader and the dogs were already heading into the bushes, and with a quiet, yet still frustrated growl, Sasha had no choice but to trail after them. As the hunters arrived, Sasha instinctively shifted into a cat, relying on the smaller shape to better hide among the undergrowth, while opening his mouth to sense the air better. By tasting the scents on the breeze, he tried to determine whether any of those present were human-yet-not. His fur bristled slightly, and without thinking, he reacted to it. "Gifted." There was a low hiss alongside his voice, a side effect of the fact he had literally just partially shifted his voice box, but it was still an unmistakably human word that escaped. Yes. He could speak when shifted. He just didn't bother normally... there was a reason he knew so well the good ginger did for an inflamed throat. Human vocal cords didn't really belong in an animal's body, after all. "Don't get caught by them this time," he added with a sideways glance at Metal-Leader, voice still low and soft to avoid the hunters overhearing. //OOC: It would be interesting if he could! // Nicholas Acker Villin

Acker slowly turned his head towards Sasha when she spoke, or better, when the cat next to him spoke. One of his eyebrows was raised way higher than the other in a comical display of surprise, not that he wanted to be comical, it was just that his expressions could be very intense.
Metal-Leader wanted to point out that Sasha not only could speak properly, but also eloquently. She hadn't spoken that way back at his home. A smirk appeared on his face. That had been smart, by not speaking properly she had avoided answering too many questions. Acker always appreciated smarts and intelligence.
Considering that Acker couldn't really speak freely because of his injured throat, all he said was "Cheshire Cat" in a whisper so that only the cat could hear him. He was referring to the fact that Sasha could speak because that fictional Cat was a talking cat.
Acker had to bite his lip after saying those two words to avoid coughing. He quickly took out the root from his pocket and bit into it. He grimaced when the taste hit his taste buds and swallowed grimacing again because it hurt. He was putting the root back in his pocket when he saw the hunters running to different directions.
His power was drawing back from the surveillance drones, the hunters were shooting them "Surveillance drones. Destroyed." the hunters could see the drones in stealth mode probably thanks to one of the hunters' powers. He had managed to say those words without coughing, probably the root was already working, or maybe the coughing came and went. Swallowing still hurt though.
Meanwhile, Acker's men were reaching his position and even some of his combat robots.
However, one of the hunters was talking to the others via their communication devices about a huge predator or something. Acker could hear it via his earpiece thanks to his power connecting to their comms. Acker informed Sasha...and then coughed again.

Sasha gave a soft snort of amusement at the reaction to his speaking, flicking his tail. Obviously he could talk. He might've spent half his life living on the streets as a beast, but he had seen and heard enough humans talk to be able to speak properly. His amusement was obvious in his twitching whiskers and soft purr. One thing, however, remained true; he absolutely did not understand movie and book references, so Metal-Leader referring to him as 'Cheshire Cat' didn't make any sense to him. He gave another soft, amused purr as Metal-Leader ate the ginger. The faces made by those tasting something they disliked always amused him, though he was sure his own face was just as funny in the same situation. His attention, however, was diverted by the running hunters, and his ear twitched as Metal-Leader spoke again. These hunters were smart to be able to sniff out drones, and he had to wonder if any of them shared his power of shapeshifting, and the keen senses that came with it. And then the best news Sasha had ever heard came through. A large predator... there weren't many of those in California. A feral grin crossed the cat's face, unbeknownst to him mimicking a real cheshire cat, as he gave a delighted growl. He heard Nicholas' cough and gave a soft hiss of annoyance at him. "Eat more ginger." And then with that he was gone, racing through the undergrowth towards the battle, trusting Nicholas and his men could fend for themselves. He needed whatever this animal was. It was his best shot at properly playing a role in this battle. His movements were almost silent as he ducked beneath the brush, slowing as he heard the roaring of a battle. His ears flicked up as he heard something rather like a yowl. No way. He slunk forward slowly, narrowing his eyes. A cougar was wrestling with the hunter, having managed to get the human to the ground, claws tearing deep gashes in the human's side. There was a deafening bang and the cougar gave a screech of pain as a bullet tore through the cat's shoulder. Sasha had seen enough. Hastily using his paw to remove his collar from around his neck, he exploded forward, shifting smoothly from black cat to black cougar with a furious yowl. The hunter, already wounded, never had a chance. Sasha's jaws sunk deep into the man's throat, ending his life swiftly, before he turned to the wounded cougar. He crouched before the wild animal, stretching a paw out slowly to the other cat. 'Death-Thorn here for me.' he managed to get across through gestures and sounds. There was no way to apologize to a cougar, or at least, not one Sasha knew of, so instead he used a slow blink to indicate that he had no hostilities. The cougar gazed at him, slowly struggling to his paws. ' Cougar-Net-Not. Leave territory.' The wild cat growled, clearly aggressive, and Sasha backed away in silent agreement. The wild cougar was scared and injured, and it knew it was Sasha's fault; better for him to leave peacefully and let the cat recover, or die. With a flick of his tail he began to lope back towards Nicholas, grabbing his collar as he passed, listening for any signs that the other human was in trouble. Nicholas Acker Villin

Acker gave the cat a warning look when Sasha purred: keep purring like that and you'll get petted! Unfortunately, he couldn't really say that sentence because of the coughing, so the warning look had to do. He couldn't help but grab his smartphone and take a picture of Sasha grinning, it was like she was cosplaying as the Cheshire Cat and Acker as the Mad Hatter. Acker pointed at the picture on the phone's screen to tease her when Sasha spoke again, but he bit on the ginger. The pain was getting better and he could feel his throat itching a little bit less. Some water would have been nice. He watched Sasha sprint away. He wanted to call out one of his drones to check where she was going, but he didn't want to accidentally reveal her position considering that the hunters seemed to be able to pinpoint his drones' position. Acker rose his head from the ginger when he heard the bang in the distance. That was it. He needed to check that Sasha was okay, otherwise this was just a waste of time. He willed the Lads to find the Shapeshifter and the mechanical dogs focused on following the Shapeshifter's unique sent. Acker arrived just in time to witness Sasha shift into a cougar. The death of the hunter barely registered, the doctor was more interested in the two cougars interacting with each other. What was Sasha trying to express to the other cougar? He observed Sasha picking up her collar and then wandering off...towards him? "Need me to put that collar around your neck?" Acker was sardonically referring to the fact it was something owners did with their pets. He wasn't addressing the shift to make it seem like it wasn't a big deal, he was being sarcastic of course because he always found Gifted's powers interesting. "Ah! Didn't cough!" Acker smiled and blew a kiss at the ginger root before pocketing it "Say...cougars can purr, right?" he twirled his fingers. He didn't really want to pet Sasha, he was joking about it because he knew that Sasha would have hated it if he actually petted her. He also would have lost his hand probably. Suddenly, it started raining. Acker tilted his head backwards then he opened his mouth to feel the raindrops on his tongue. He snapped his mouth shut when a henchman contacted him. "Sir..." a voice in his earpiece "...these hunters are Gifted, we can't hold them off for long, the robots are also being challenged" meaning that the robots were facing issues dealing with the hunters "The hunters are reaching your position, one of them uses an enchanted katana" Acker had to roll his eyes. What was this? Kill Bill? "You'll have the chance to try out your new shift soon enough" Acker grabbed his double pistols and the Lads stood on alert. The hunters made their entrance, the wannabe-samurai was leading the group. The samurai threw a combat knife, that looked like a smaller katana, at Sasha with extreme precision and speed. Meanwhile, Acker and his Lads were pushed back by an invisible force, probably the doing of a hunter.

Noticing Metal-Leader had followed him to the other cougar, Sasha growled, slightly irritated. He flashed a glance behind him to see the other cougar had already limped away, probably frightened off by another human's presence, as well as Sasha's own... well, unnaturalness. After all, what animal would want to hang around near the very reason they just got shot? Whether the wild cat lived or died was not something Sasha would likely ever find out, though the fact that it had been wounded because of him was upsetting to him. The jest about his collar made Sasha give a growl, though not a particularly aggressive one; more slightly frustrated. "I don't think it will fit on a cougar's neck. I took it off so it wouldn't break when I shift." Or strangle him. That last part was very important. They already had one half-choked, coughing menace on the team, and he didn't want to add to that racket, thank you very much. As if hearing Sasha's thoughts, Metal-Leader announced the lack of a cough following his previous sentence. Sasha gave a snort at the way the human kissed at the ginger, ears twitching. The question about his possibility of purring took him by surprise, though. Could cougars purr? He wasn't sure; he hadn't seen the other cougar purring, but then again, fighting for your life and then being shot at was no purring matter. After a moment he decided to give it a try. The sound that rumbled out, while deeper and louder, was unmistakably a purr. "Apparently, yes," he responded. Then he saw Metal-Leader's hand. "A cougar's teeth can break bones, you know," he said casually. "Pretty sure I snapped that hunter's neck over there..." His eye narrowed at Metal-Leader meaningfully, letting his lips lift to show off his much more dangerous fangs. If any part of Metal-Leader tried to touch him, Sasha would ensure that Metal-Leader and the offending body part were swiftly separated. The first drops of rain hit his nose and he lifted his head warily, sniffing the air. His ears flicked back warily, tail twitching. He couldn't pick up any signs of an impending storm - none of the terrifying loud crashes or bright flashes that accompanied his greatest fear - but the suddenness of the rain made him edgy all the same. Every storm that rumbled past reminded him of that dreadful journey to the city as a trapped and terrified pup. But he had no time to linger on his concerns. Metal-Leader had spoken again, and Sasha picked up on the warning of approaching danger, his claws unsheathing. He sensed the threat almost before he saw it, leaping to one side lightly. Despite his swift reactions the blade still grazed his shoulder, and Sasha gave a brief hiss of pain and frustration before charging towards the blade-wielding hunter with bared teeth. The mad scientist in him was tickled when the issue of the collar was mentioned, he could make a collar that would adjust to a range of sizes "I can make a collar that can readjust to your size" he couldn't help but say, after all his hands were made to create and his mind already started thinking about possible prototypes. He felt that pleasant tingling sensation he felt everytime his mind worked on a project. Acker felt his hand massaging his throat at the thought of the collar strangling Sasha, associating it with that dead hunter's hands on him. "Ohhh, you know you want it" Acker winked, joking about Sasha wanting to be petted. In fact, he had been surprised that Sasha had tried to purr in the first place. He put his hands up in faux surrender when Sasha mentioned the hunter she had just killed and that he would get harmed. Oh, but Acker was going to get harmed all right. The Lads hit a tree nearby, but the dogs were metallic enough to bear the hit, the tree instead almost fell over. The branches undulated and leaves fell down disturbed by the impact. The Lads quickly returned on their feet and ran towards their owner who was on the ground. The dogs positioned themselves in front of the doctor in a defensive posture. The dogs' behaviour meant that something had happened to the doctor because he wasn't getting up and no noise of distress was escaping his lips. The smart glasses were laying on the ground a meter away, broken. The doctor was defenceless. His eyes, unshielded by the glasses, were closed and blood was dripping from a side of his mouth. His armour-suit would soon send a controlled surge of electricity to try make the doctor regain consciousness if he didn't wake up by himself soon. Also, if his heartbeat became unstable, the electric shocks would be administered to try restabilising the heartbeat. It was thanks to the armour that Acker had survived the impact, otherwise his ribs would have perforated his internal organs, but thankfully the armour had protected his body from breaking any ribs. The hunter with the telekinesis power slowly walked towards the dogs and the doctor, fearlessly. What happened when the doctor was unconscious? DId his power stop working? If so, would his machines stop working too? In his decades of using his power, he had been in situations where his consciousness was knocked out of him. So, he had programmed protocols specifically for situations like this. That was why the dogs were still protecting him and why the robots were still approaching. Acker didn't will his robots every second they were active, pushing his power that far would have killed him, he knew how to build robots and how to program them. It was thanks to his studies and power that he had learned to develop and create technology far more advanced than current technology, so the programs and protocols developed by Acker allowed the doctor not use his power every second. His machines could work by themselves by following Acker's protocols and programming. His men were still present on the field and his machines had a protocol to follow: kill the hunters. Also, the machines were aware that their creator was in danger due to receiving vital signs data from the armour. The Lads were growling and jumped forward to attack the hunter who was approaching. The hunter rose her hand nonchalantly and the Lads were sent back into another tree, leaving the doctor wide open to death. "Thank you for coming to us..." the hunter calmly said to the unconscious doctor "...saved us the trouble" the hunter was about to rise her hand to break the doctor's neck in half when another hunter shouted "Drones incoming! Robots too!" in that exact moment bullets started flying, aimed at the hunters. The hunter had to shift her attention from the doctor to the bullets to avoid getting pierced by one. The hunter used her power to deflect the bullets without really paying attention where she was deflecting the bullets at. Some of the bullets almost hit Sasha and the samurai-wannabe. The other hunter, the one with the sensing power, seemed defenceless and had to hide behind trees "His men are trying to flank us! The robots are surrounding us! We have to leave, there are t--" the sensing power hunter couldn't finish the sentence because hit by some bullets that had pierced through the trunk of the tree the hunter had hid behind. The other hunters didn't notice, or didn't care, or maybe they were too busy trying to survive being shot to death. The samurai knew his stuff, he kept fighting Sasha masterfully, actually letting the fight going for longer than it should have because the samurai seemed to enjoy the battle. However, the samurai had finally decided to use the enchanted katana to deal the final blow when he had to use the power of the katana to cut any bullets coming his way. The katana could move with enormous speed and it was whirling in front of the samurai, protecting him from any incoming bullet. The robots made their entrance the moment the hunters had started running away. No matter. The robots just went after them with vengeance. The drones too, only a few of them stayed behind to protect the doctor. In that moment Acker rose up with a yell, his eyes opened wide in a frenzied expression, the armour had succeeded. His men reached the area and a medic crouched next to a confused Acker "Sir?" the medic called his employer's attention and started checking up on him. Acker shook his head and blinked when a light was shoved in his eyes "I'm fine!" he carefully stood up. His body was in pain, but it was bearable, at least for awhile, retribution was fuelling him to keep going. The medic knew better than to offer painkillers because they would make the doctor less reactive. However, the medic offered a sanitised tissue to clean the dried blood on the side of Acker's mouth, but it was ignored. Acker called out to Sasha, hoping that she hadn't become collateral damage otherwise all of this would have been for nothing. Perhaps, she had gone after the hunters. Although, going by herself would be suicide. Acker willed his power to connect to his Lads, but the second hit had shut them down in repair mode "Take them back" he ordered no one in particular, two henchmen carefully grabbed a dog each and left. These hunters had to be neutralized, otherwise they would just come back like cockroaches. Acker had an objective and was determined to accomplish it.
