POWERS: Elemental TransmutationMorgan possesses the ability to perceive and alter the chemical and elemental state of the world around her. This is primarily carried out through some manner of contact with the medium she wishes to transmute, however the grounds of what this means get a little murky. For instance, she primarily accesses her powers through some form of physical contact, such as by touching a glass to will it to fill with a certain liquid, solid or gas. However she can also alter things that are within a rough vicinity of her body, such as by altering the air in front of her hand to do something specific.
She can also alter the state of the air immediately surrounding her body, for a variety of effects. While she is largely immune to the effects of her own alterations, this comes in the form of the actual alteration itself being harmless to her, but by-products of them can still hinder or harm her. For example, were she to will the air around her body to ignite as a means to defend herself, she would be fine so long as she doesn’t move, or maintain it too long, but doing these things would risk putting her at harm from the heat put off by such an exchange.
All her alterations must follow some form of natural law, with creating fire causing heat exchanges that can alter the world in various ways, or the like. As an example of this, she cannot create heat that freezes, but she can remove the heat from a system by pushing it to something else, causing the target to become frozen instead.

STRENGTHS: Outside of her abilities, Morgan has a few things that benefit her in the outside world.
Hyper-Focus: When Morgan gets her mind set on something, there’s little that can sway her from that. She rarely suffers dips in motivation, or intention while working.
An Outsider’s Perspective: Due to her neural divergency, Morgan has a unique way of looking at the world around her, and the people within it. This can give her a strange insight into a person’s behavior or actions. However much of this comes from her perception of things, and so their validity (or the subject’s receptiveness to what she has to say) is variable.
Scientific Mind: Morgan has a mind for science, one she has had little chance to properly express or develop, but her current career has allowed her love for science to finally have a chance to blossom. This gives her a remarkably critical outlook on events and people around her, but can come across as overly sterile or emotionless.
WEAKNESSES: Morgan’s powers bring a number of physiological problems that she must deal with on a regular basis, even if not using them. Due to her altered perception of the world, she frequently experiences issues tied to her senses. She suffers frequent migraines, specifically Ocular Aural Migraines, and has been known to develop spontaneous nosebleeds. Both of these can come on with little warning, and are exacerbated by overuse of her abilities. If she overtaxes her power, she quickly suffers severe symptoms such as lightheadedness, muscle weakness and nausea.
Morgan possesses no sense of smell, due to an abnormal birth defect. While this means that her ability to be influenced through her sense of smell is utterly removed, it also remove her ability to use smell to assist her in any way in her life.
Combined with her lack of smell, Morgan has a severe aversion to sudden and excessively shrill, loud or piercing sounds. While her reaction to these can vary from general discomfort to a full aversion response, she is generally able to function in public and thrives at her job due to her limited exposure to such explosively distressing stimuli.
Unfortunately for Morgan, her life experiences are somewhat lacking compared to most people her age. She can come across as naive and inexperienced, making it easier to manipulate her or abuse her without her realizing.
OVERALL PERSONALITY: Morgan is an high-functioning autistic woman who spent much of her childhood without a diagnosis. This caused her to develop a number of specific quirks to her personality and mannerisms specific to her that even in her adulthood have become so deeply rooted that despite her best efforts she struggles to moderate in a way to allow her to function normally. While she is exceedingly high functioning, she does suffer a number of downsides to her condition.
She has a tendency to perform a practice known as ‘stimming’ when overstimulated, specifically performing a practice around her hands and making small noises to herself. While it’s generally non-disruptive, it can cause people to side eye her which pushes her to attempt to smother these behaviors around people, especially strangers. This can only heighten her distress at times, as she tries to avoid being singled out by the public.
Known to possess a tendency to over-explain, or ramble about topics that fascinate her, she can quickly spiral into talking for hours if not stopped, though in general is largely a quiet woman who keeps to herself. Bring up something she’s passionate about, and you’ll see a whole other side to her, but she tends to keep to herself otherwise.
BACKGROUND
HOMETOWN Baysview, Colorado
FAMILY: Helen Reid (Mother), John Reid (Biological father, deceased)
PETS: A Tortoiseshell Kitten named Milo
HISTORY:
Morgan was born to a family of immigrants in a small town in Colorado. Her early life was chaotic, as she wasn’t like any other children in her development. While she surged ahead in some areas, she fell severally behind in others. For years she grew up believing there was something off with her, but never able to find its source. It wasn’t until she was ten that the answer finally came, that Morgan was Autistic.
Even outside her diagnosis, Morgan had always had a strange way of looking at the world. For the longest time she’d thought her preternatural awareness of the composition of the world around her to be perfectly normal, just another thing any child saw. Yet as she grew, and her ability to express her experiences finally reached a point where she could adequately explain what she saw, she was met only with confusion and dismissal. Some specialists speculated she was suffering a rare kind of synesthesia, leading to her strange sensory experience when combined with her neuro-divergency. It wasn’t until during a severe meltdown that Morgan’s true power was revealed. She was barely above the age of a teenager when a fight broke out in the Reid household. Morgan reacted poorly to the shouting as always, but this time she snapped. Demanding her parents stop shouting, her own anxiety became anger, white hot and radiant. Morgan stormed into her room, but the anger didn’t abate, and in a moment of unthinking agitation she lashed out. The air around her mirrored her agitation, and burst into flames.
Their family home burned down that night, her parents believing Morgan to have started the fire out of some tantrum gone out of control. Despite her protestations, she was ignored, thrown into the therapeutic cycle in an attempt to treat the ‘underlying causes’ of what they believed to simply be a behavioural problem. So it was Morgan learned to hide what she could do… if no one believed her, then there was no reason to share that part of her… Yet, she knew deep inside herself that there was more to it than that. In secret she began to test out what had happened, successfully creating fire within hours of her attempts. From there, she began to wonder… If she could prompt the air to ignite, could she also do the opposite? For the next near decade, Morgan delved into her strange abilities in secret, learning how they worked and more importantly, how to keep them hidden.
Still living at home, she began to crave freedom, adventure and something more than the life her mother saw for her. Despite being a full grown woman by this stage in her life, all of Morgan’s friends had left in search of their own lives, and Morgan had been left behind, her mother coddling her and trapping her in what she claimed to be security. Eventually however, the situation became untenable. John Reid, Morgan’s father had been sick for some time, and after his passing, her mother was quick to find a new man in her life. She tried to set her daughter up with the man’s son, but Morgan refused, leading to yet another fight. At this point, Morgan realized how controlling her mother wanted to be over her life, and so she packed her things.
After this, Morgan struck out on her own, desperate to feel some measure of independence in her life. At first she took up residence in a small apartment in her hometown, but her mother’s continued smothering attempts to ‘help’ drove her to move away in an attempt to escape. She floated from place to place, mostly relying on the charity of strangers to get what she needed, until she found herself landing in Los Eurosia. Spying a help wanted ad for a Mortician’s assistant, she applied, finding quick success due to the fascination with death she had found following her father’s death. This had led her to research everything she could find of embalming, exhumation and a dozen other things which let her ace through the interview despite a lacking professional background.
It was during this time she was taken under the wing of the city Coroner, a man by the name of Rupert Davis. Rupert had once had a son who was Autistic, and so he saw many of the same markers within the young Mortuary Assistant. Choosing to help her, he set to teaching her the trade, something she took to quickly.
Despite the general awfulness of the work, Morgan found stability in the structure of her work. Working off daily rotes, safe from the excessive stimuli of the outside world, she was able to function in a way that made her almost fully neuro-typical-passing. This was also where her neuro-divergency came to work to her benefit for the first time in her life. She learned rapidly, her excellent recall for things that stimulated her mind letting her quickly surpass her mentor in the work, often correcting him during their work (much to his mixed amusement and chagrin).
In recent years however, Morgan has begun to take on the lion’s share of the work in the city Mortuary. Rupert has found his health to be ailing, and so chose to start stepping back from his role in order to slowly pass it over to Morgan, intending for her to take his place when it comes time for him to step away for good.
