Rachel was a God-fearing, perpetually stressed stay-at-home mom who enjoyed classic literature and spent a lot of time worrying what would happen if her family's gifts were exposed. She didn't laugh often, her smiles were strained, and her praise tended to carry an absent quality to it.[break][break]

Unlike the rest of the family her gift was temperature-based; she could disperse clouds with heat, lower the temperature of moisture in the air until it turned into snow, and if breezes were blowing she could manipulate them into carrying warmth rather than cold. But she could not create winds herself, nor could she summon fog or rainbows. [break][break]

Her relationship with Jacob wasn't a romance for the ages but it couldn't be called awful either. It was fine. It was settling; knowing there was probably something better out there yet having neither the energy nor desire to set out and look for it. They had more than their share of tension, which was often caused or compounded by their disagreements about Noah and how he should be raised, but they stuck together for twenty-eight years and did, quietly, care for each other.[break][break]

When Noah was born, she briefly suffered from postpartum depression and left him and his sister in the care of her parents. She eventually collected them and in his early years she and Noah had a pretty normal mother-son relationship.[break][break]

Once his powers developed it was clear he did not want to suppress them. Their bond lessened significantly because of this and Rachel became increasingly stressed due to his curiosity and enthusiasm for controlling the weather. When it came to light that his powers were different from the rest of the family's, she was quietly relieved. He could only copy - so as long as she could convince everyone not to use their powers around him, he wouldn't be able to do anything that would put their family's secret at risk.[break][break]

Her relief was short-lived, however. The rest of the family started treating him negatively when they learned he was different, and Noah started acting out as a consequence. Over the years she signed him up for multiple sports clubs, hoping they would be a way for him to burn off energy, make friends, and learn to work with others. It also meant he was out of the house, which usually ensured the other kids would be on their best behaviour.[break][break]

Sometimes, if she was tired, she would lock Noah in his room rather than try to sort out whatever argument had occurred between the kids. She tended to assume that whatever had happened, Noah had started it, and knew that if she separated him the other children would calm down.[break][break]

When Noah thinks of his family, Jacob is the least likely to cross his mind. He didn't see him nearly as much as he saw anyone else, and Jacob often had little reason or wish to speak to him when their paths crossed. He had the gift of atmokinesis; the ability to create and manipulate all forms of weather.[break][break]

Jacob never laid a hand on Noah (aside from dragging him out of scraps and/or shoving him into his room when he was in trouble), but his contempt for him was evident long before Noah's differing powers came to light. Jacob had only wanted daughters, harbouring a general distrust of men and believing women to be more peaceful and less exploitative with their gifts, and he struggled to come to terms with raising a boy.[break][break]

He was aloof, electing to ignore both of his sons most of the time, and when he was moved to take action his reprimands tended to be full of dry sarcasm and rhetorical questions, spoken through gritted teeth. He liked to work, liked to play - but not with his family. Noah sometimes went weeks without seeing him; he would leave for his job early in the morning and come home late at night after the kids were in bed.[break][break]

Hannah was the golden child who excelled in all aspects of life, and as the only daughter she was Jacob's clear favourite and the one Rachel spent the most time with as well. After high school she earned a bachelor's degree in history and became an archivist. [break][break]

Being an only child before Noah was born, she originally felt threatened by his arrival and thought she was being replaced. But soon, seeing her parents' disinterest in him in the months after he was born, Hannah relaxed and during his early years they had a typical brother-sister relationship. [break][break]

When his powers developed, she was the first to notice Noah could not control the weather unless someone else did it directly beforehand. She informed the rest of the family and, being young herself and seeing how they reacted with fear, disgust, and/or malicious amusement, felt she should react the same way. Their friendly relationship crumbled into nothing, and she learned quickly that if she had done something bad, Noah could usually be blamed for it.[break][break]

Like her father she had atmokinesis. The St. Cloud kids would walk home from school through some woods and fields, so when Noah could only copy rather than borrow gifts, Hannah would run ahead and create a dense fog to get him lost. She was always much better at conjuring mist than anything else, so although he had a copy of her gift which could create all sorts of weather, he could never clear the way by countering with sunshine, winds, etc. He would often find his way home hours later, soaked and freezing. There, everyone assumed he'd created the fog himself and gotten lost due to his own reckless experimentation.[break][break]

Noah used to steal her books - originally to provoke her and steal her gift, later because he wanted something new to read and his library privileges had been revoked.[break][break]

She's responsible for both of his lightning scars. It's lucky storms were never her strong point and the strikes were weak enough to be survivable.[break][break]

Joseph wasn't as slyly cunning or 'perfect' as Hannah. He was still snobbish and proud but he had an impulsive streak as well, with a tendency to fight first and ask questions later. He was the easiest for Noah to provoke and take his gift from and he had an affinity for conjuring hail.[break][break]

In the early years of Joseph's life he and Noah were close, with Noah affectionately dubbing him 'Joey' and sticking to his side as much as possible. Jacob, once again disappointed to have had a son, didn't pay attention to Joseph whereas Noah (who was barely out of his toddling years himself with no powers yet to speak of) actively wanted to help teach Joseph to walk and talk, and spent a lot of time playing with him and Hannah. Joseph was a timid and shy child, fearful of those around him while they waited with bated breath to see if he would be 'normal' like the rest of them or like Noah. Rachel often tried to separate the two as if Joseph could catch Noah's gift like an illness. Privately, Noah hoped he would.[break][break]

After his weather powers manifested, however, Joseph was fully accepted into the family and rapidly grew in confidence. He started to model his behaviour on his sister and cousins, finding that the easiest way to be accepted by them was to reject Noah. The first time Joseph called him a freak, Noah felt so betrayed that he completely flipped out and attacked him, breaking his nose and a few ribs before he was hoisted up and dragged away kicking and screaming by Jacob. The brothers' relationship became severely strained and antagonistic thereafter, and as their rivalry grew, both soon forgot any good memories they had together.[break][break]

Everyone related to Noah by blood had biblical names and gifts that influenced the weather. They all went to church on Sunday, worked hard to present themselves as prim and proper non-gifted contributors to society, and would even send out nativity-themed Christmas cards each year.[break][break]

He had five cousins; two girls, three boys, "a whole litter of blonds" in the same age group. Their names were Saul, David, Josiah, Mary, and Deborah. They were almost as constant in his life as his siblings were. Their mother (Jacob's sister; Noah's aunt, Esther) was self-absorbed and did little to discipline them, often leaving them in the care of Rachel with little to no notice.[break][break]

Noah doesn't remember his uncle, who had died when Noah was about five, but apparently he had been human, down-to-earth and jovial, the rock of the family, and he had known exactly how to curb his wife's moments of flightiness.[break][break]

With Rachel incapable and Jacob unwilling, Noah's maternal grandparents took care of Noah in his infancy. They were kind and doting during this time and remained so when Rachel recovered and took him back, but when Noah's differing gift came to light they saw it as a bad omen and distanced themselves. Whenever Noah was seated at their dinner table they'd say an extra prayer during grace - asking God to be merciful and 'fix' him. His cousins found it hilarious. He didn't at the time, but nowadays he thinks it was funny too.[break][break]

Noah's paternal grandmother is remembered as a bitter old witch of a woman with an icy glare, gnarled hands, and unflattering magenta lipstick. She was a misandrist who openly showed disdain for the men of the family and gave preferential treatment to the women, likely because Noah's paternal grandfather abandoned his wife and children when Jacob was barely out of diapers, never to be heard from again. She's likely the reason why Jacob grew to have such difficulty trusting and becoming friends with other men.[break][break]

Noah and Leah attended university together. She was a peppy cheerleader/valedictorian type who was popular around campus and persistently showed interest in Noah despite his lack of reciprocation. She would claim that she knew the 'real' him and he found this immensely annoying, but everyone around them expected the pair to get together so Noah, pretty much just trying to look normal and boost his good-guy reputation, eventually thought 'fuck it' and asked her out. Leah had a very different sense of humour to Noah, with hobbies and interests he saw no appeal in. She had a certain snootiness that quickly became more frustrating than amusing, and when she met his family they confused the hell out of him with how nice they were to her. She fit right in, fast friends with every single one, oblivious to how he felt about them and vice versa. He hated her for it. Yet, he stuck with her for almost two years.[break][break]

It was what you might call a 'high school relationship' though, where they mostly saw each other around campus, never lived together, and it wasn't built to last in 'the real world' - especially as Noah had no real interest in her in the first place. They split before graduation. [break][break]

The whole time they were together Noah was much more attracted to Rachie, Leah's sister. She was far more casual and they would tease each other and joke around until Leah (who'd usually been sat with them the whole time and didn't share the same sense of humour) would cut in with something like 'I don't get it', effectively killing the mood and reminding them that - oh yeah, Noah was dating Leah.[break][break]

He almost - almost - hooked up with Rachie while he and Leah were still dating, but she backed out at the last second and to this day she feels immensely guilty and angry that they got as far as they did. Noah, of course, feels no guilt at all - only faintly annoyed that Rachie got all "self-righteous" and put a stop to it. No one ever found out.[break][break]

Leah's number has long since been deleted from his phone but once in a blue moon her mom will message him as if he's still dating her. He finds this hilarious, especially knowing how this must annoy both Leah and Rachie, so he's never blocked their mom and always makes sure to let her know if he's switching to a new number.

When Noah's family died and he'd finally rid himself of their possessions, he had no idea what to do with his newfound wealth. One day he was just milling around listlessly and Jess appeared from nowhere, running up to him in the street and asking him to pretend to be her boyfriend so some other guy would leave her alone. He did, the creep left, and when they bumped into each other again a week later, they got talking. [break][break]

Jess was the perfect kind of person to celebrate with; she played in a band, was always bursting with energy, and didn't worry much about obeying the law. They went out almost every night and her band was constantly on the move to play at whatever bar would take them. He wasn't a huge fan of her friends, thinking them way too involved in every choice she made, but he tolerated them well enough and only slightly tried to drive a wedge between them.[break][break]

Their time together could be summed up as chaos and debauchery. He was practically nocturnal and this period is probably why he has such a high alcohol tolerance now.[break][break]

Three months in, Noah accidentally broke her arm when she woke him up with a knife in her hand. She hadn't been trying to hurt him, having only wanted to understand why he liked knives so much, but being half-asleep he'd reacted instinctively. He dumped her a couple of days after, frankly already exhausted from the constant clubbing and now even more fed up with her friends who blamed him for 'ruining' their band. Jess, feeling sorry for herself, was also a lot less fun with her arm in a sling.

Tired of constantly partying and being on the road, Noah decided he wanted someone else to be responsible for keeping him alive for a while.[break][break]

Pretty much immediately after abandoning Jess he searched for someone like Louie. A hangover cure. A sweet, sensitive type who was maybe a bit naïve as well - someone who was absolutely not a party animal. He went to galleries and libraries, cute bakeries and quiet coffee shops, places where he expected to find such a person. And after a few false positives, he did.[break][break]

Louie was the gentlest of Noah's partners, introverted and a bit of a hermit. He was uncomplicated, had lived a stable and somewhat sheltered life, and was easy for Noah to understand and appease. Noah lived in Louie's apartment for free and spent his days being doted upon.[break][break]

Despite a lack of any real effort on Noah's part, Louie adored him and was practically perfect in terms of what he would consider an ideal partner. But... Noah was bored. Louie didn't make Noah think. He played along for convenience's sake, wanting to keep the physical side of their relationship and to have somewhere to rest his head. But when Louie started asking to meet Noah's family, his patience thinned. [break][break]

Noah hadn't told him they were dead and instead tried to dissuade him by saying his relatives were terrible people. Louie accepted this - for almost a day. Saying things like "I'm sure they're not that bad" and "I'm sure they love you really" became all-too common, and Noah decided it was way past time to move on. Besides, they'd only known each other for three months! Even if they were serious and Noah's family were alive and good to him, he'd consider it way too soon in the relationship to introduce them all. Completely ignoring the fact that they were already moving abnormally fast by living together.[break][break]

He tried to make their 'break up' as amicable as possible, having decided that if he were ever in town again he would want a body and a comfortable place to stay. He pretended he had a job offer, one which unfortunately required him to move several states over, and Louie believed him.

Noah can't remember exactly how he met Kels - probably at some bar or house party, nothing special. What he does remember is waking up in her bed one morning. And then she woke up and realised she wasn't alone, and immediately fell out of the bed and knocked over a lamp and a glass of water over herself. He looked at this flustered mess on the floor, yelling at him for laughing as she tried to clean up the water with a sudoku puzzle book, and he thought - 'lmao okay, I can work with this.' They were together for a few months during the tail end of Noah's stay in Seattle. Kelsey, more than anything, had been entertainment. She was blunt, clumsy both socially and physically, and she often reacted in unexpected ways which kept him on his toes and made him laugh. Though lacking in social graces she had a brain made for programming, puzzles, and problem-solving, and of Noah's 'relationships' this was probably the most genuine, with him unfalteringly enjoying her company and being more honest with her than any of the others. He still couldn't love her though. She was sort of like a pet (kept for amusement and companionship and because she was cute) and the hobbies he picked up eventually weren't enough to occupy him while she was at work. He wanted gifts. He'd barely met anyone with powers since the demise of his family and Kels was human; he couldn't talk to her about it.[break][break]

Shortly after reaching this conclusion, he bought his home in Los Eurosia and they parted ways on good terms, deciding long-distance wouldn't suit either of them.

Father John was well-loved in Noah's hometown for his patience and affability. He often debated his peers and once when Noah asked him if he truly believed what he preached, he admitted to being more sceptical than others in his faith. To him, he felt the most important part of his religion was the acceptance it encouraged.[break][break]

Noah would see Father John every Sunday and sometimes be taken to confess during the week. He would grudgingly admit to any wrongdoings (such as stealing his sister's books) and openly talk about his darker thoughts (such as wishing his family were dead), but he had strict instructions from his mom not to talk about gifts, and he never spoke about how his family shunned him and refused to say why he acted out or wanted the things he did. In some ways, Father John was like a therapist for Noah (albeit not trained to be so) as he'd offer up moral guidance and try to encourage Noah to question his feelings, to reflect on his views on the world, and to put himself in other people's shoes.[break][break]

Sometimes Noah sat in stony silence, picking at his nails or watching dust swirl in the air, and Father John would let him stay there for however long he wanted. Privately, Noah did like him - probably more than he liked anyone else, even his few 'allies' at school. But he resented the forced proximity and the 'churchiness' of it all, and figured any kindness and secret-keeping was just the priest doing his job. [break][break]

Nowadays he barely thinks of him, but growing up he was probably the closest thing Noah had to a real role model, and his preferred style for his hair is subconsciously influenced by the way Father John used to style his. Noah's proclivity for dark clothing is likely influenced by him, too.

Before his family's death, Noah had lived in complete ignorance of The Sector. So when Neelam came to town and started investigating the 'natural disaster' and the family affected, he was a little unprepared for her questions. [break][break]

The good news was: The Sector's existence meant there were more gifted people in the world (his family weren't the only ones with powers he could borrow - he wouldn't be stuck as 'human' for the rest of his life). The bad news was: if the event was deemed mystical there would be files detailing him and his family, and perhaps even accusations levied his way. He didn't much like the sound of that. Plus, The Sector apparently worked to keep the existence of gifted people a secret. It was their fault that his family thought they were the only ones - that his family were so paranoid and scared of themselves.[break][break]

Also, until he could prove the storm wasn't gift-made and he had no involvement in it, his inheritance was blocked.[break][break]

Neelam had the gift of mind control and was confident and quick-witted. Because of this, she was trusted to carry out investigations without a partner. Noah did his best to charm her, playing at being the mournful son, at having survivor's guilt, at having no idea about gifts - and it seemed to work, right up until Neelam used her power and asked if everything he'd told her had been the truth.[break][break]

It wasn't at all.[break][break]

Her gift was transferred to him and once they both realised what had happened, Neelam panicked and Noah used it to ensure she couldn't tell anyone. After that, he gave her orders; she had the connections and abilities to sweep the whole thing under the rug, and she would do so.[break][break]

Noah and his family remain undocumented by The Sector (she even destroyed the evidence that she'd investigated them at all) and he was able to receive his full inheritance without issue. Neelam remains unable to speak of him.

The closest thing Noah has to a best friend. Responsible for most of the photos in Noah’s camera roll. These two met at university after Noah hooked up with Dylan’s roommate. When he tried to sneak out, Dylan was sat in the lounge area and caught Noah right away, and after a beat of surprised silence he invited Noah to watch IASIP with him and they ended up binging all of season three together in one sitting. Dylan’s roommate wasn’t impressed. As well as having the same sense of humour and taste in TV shows, they later discovered they both enjoy karaoke and playfighting which was good enough grounds for Noah to stay in touch.

Randy (man who decided being a raccoon is easier (understandable)):

Shapeshifter. His name in Noah's phone sums him up pretty well.

The '11 red bulls' group chat: Riley (in phone as Aquaman), Daniels (Hawkeye), Marcus (Zorro), Barry (You're a wizard barry):

A chaotic quartet of gifted guys. They became friends after Noah recruited them to Blackstorm, and though Noah usually grows bored of his recruits and drifts away once they're settled, this particular group decided to adopt him whether he likes it or not. They go out drinking together sometimes. Noah is that friend that barely messages in the chat, so when he does (or even better, shows up without warning to their meet ups) everyone loses it. Noah laps up the positive attention.

Benjie (Foggy Nelson):

Ben is another university friend of Noah's whom he briefly shared a flat with (along with two other guys, Mark and Steve, but Noah didn't stay in touch with either of them). Ben didn't get along with Noah's girlfriend at the time, Leah, finding her tiring to hang out with, but would side-eye Noah whenever he sat too close to Rachie. Often told Noah not to do anything stupid and then refused to elaborate. A pretty chill dude otherwise, Benjie is a big reader who's now a lawyer and married to his high school sweetheart, Jason. Noah keeps him close for legal advice and just in case he ever gets arrested. He also gives good book recommendations.

Nahlani (Scrubs > Gray's Anatomy):

Of Blackstorm's healers, Nahlani is Noah's favourite and the most open to using her magic on him. She'll usually give him a cookie or some other kind of baked good when they're done. 10/10 no complaints.

Giuseppe a.k.a. "Guy" (it's wednesday my dudes):

Brooding huntsman dude who can turn into a dog and makes a living selling venison and other meats to the local butchers. Isn't interested in Blackstorm. Goes to the same dingy downtown bar every Wednesday where Noah occasionally joins him and has fun listening to him monologue about life.

Sunny was born eleven years after Eve. In some ways, Eve acts (and feels) more like a second mother than an elder sister to her.[break][break]

Loud, crass, and sporty, Sunrise can hold a grudge like no other, but she’s popular around S. C. University for her athleticism and enthusiastic participation in team sports.[break][break]

While Eve is strolling around town in her heels and princess-style black dresses, Sunrise is hanging out at the park in ripped mom jeans and a varsity jacket. Many people who met both girls at separate times don’t make the connection that they’re related unless specifically told.[break][break]

She’s somewhat embarrassed by her sister's lifestyle but she’s immensely protective and as kids she commonly got into fistfights with anyone who said a bad word about her. Eve may be willing to ignore and forgive negative comments from strangers, but Sunrise will find a way to trip the offender over or ‘accidentally’ shove them into a wall when they're walking past. She’s potentially a bit of a bully, though if confronted she’ll be adamant that any targets of her ire deserve it.[break][break]

She's a bit of a tsundere. Squirming and complaining when Eve fusses over cuts and bruises or smothers her in affection, but not pulling away. More often than not she comes over for dinner when Evening offers.

Eve's relationship with Elijah could best be described as puppy love. They were in the same small tight-knit group of friends throughout their adolescence and they started dating in senior year of high school. After graduation she started working in her parents' store and he went to college in their hometown so they didn't have to date long-distance.[break][break]

It was all very soft, very sweet, and Evening probably would have happily married him if he'd asked. He never quite understood her insistence that she was a witch though, and he excused her telepathy as simply knowing him well enough to guess what he was thinking. She was his kind, kooky, oddly observant girlfriend - but not magical.[break][break]

They eventually grew apart. He decided he wanted to leave their hometown after college whereas Evening, at that point, couldn't imagine ever leaving. Sunny was still in elementary school! Even if they visited frequently, she'd feel as though she'd abandoned her.[break][break]

Elijah and Evening parted ways amicably, deciding they simply had different plans for the future and that was okay.

Damien and his friends tumbled into Eve's parents' store one day. She immediately felt tense, not liking the way they loudly jostled each other around and sniggered at the wares, making fun of beliefs she herself held and disturbing the store's previously peaceful atmosphere. Damien noticed her behind the cash register and split from his group to speak to her. Despite her apprehension as he approached, he was actually very nice. And his thoughts about her were flattering rather than scornful.[break][break]

After they left, she walked around the store and suspected his friends had stolen a few things, but she had no proof and decided to let it slide - not wanting to stress her parents out by bringing it to their attention.[break][break]

Damien kept returning to visit her afterwards and eventually they began dating. When in the privacy of his or her home he was lovely. A very kind and understanding soul who was good with her family. But she knew he always felt a little awkward to walk around in public with her when she was wearing her more extravagant gowns, often asking her to wear something casual if they were going somewhere together - especially if his friends would be there.[break][break]

Though she did her best not to show it, Eve felt uncomfortable around his friends and worried they might get him in trouble someday. They also tended to be openly condescending towards her and Damien never said anything to stop them, making it clear that although he did love her, he was embarrassed of her. This fact became increasingly evident as he began encouraging her to drop her hobbies and interests, doing what he could to steer her away from her witch identity into someone more 'normal'.[break][break]

He might have eventually succeeded had Eve not been able to hear his thoughts. She stayed with him, hoping that he would drop the matter and accept her for who she is, but a year passed and he kept pushing. Feeling the last of her hope slip away, she broke up with him as gently as she could. He was hurt and angry but did not argue, even agreeing with her that it wasn't healthy for both of them to be wishing for the other to change, and that the two of them would probably be happier with different people. The end of their relationship solidified her decision to leave her hometown and follow her sister to Los Eurosia.

Maheep - Eve's closest friend in Los Eurosia. Maheep is a lot more into clubbing, drinking, and casual flings than Eve would ever be and their morals often differ, but they get along very well and regularly have 'girls night' which will either consist of binging shows in Eve's apartment or going out to eat/drink at a nice restaurant/bar/lounge.[break][break]

Madame Celeste - A 60+ year old witch and frequent visitor of Evening's store. Whether she's truly gifted or not is yet to be seen, but she often shares charms and recipes with Eve.
