Tomas walked alongside his friend as they headed in the direction of the café. Mason spoke about Cami, his last girlfriend. She had seemed like a sweet girl, probably not a good fit for Mason, not because his friend didn’t deserve sweet. The trio were just to fucked up for sweet and the lack of communication seemed to frustrate the girl enough in the end and after 8 months she threw the book at him. Literally. Tomas snorted at the memory, “You really haven’t dated anyone?” he mocked “I mean, it must be hard getting laid with mummy dearest sleeping next door” Tomas snorted with laughter at the thought and then grimaced for his friend.
Tomas nodded along when Mason spoke about what he had been doing for Blackstorm. It was similar for Tomas, he had provided funds for a few “get out of sticky situations” type tasks and had even passed on the odd name for Noah when they were training, but other then that things had been quiet. To quiet and Tomas wondered what the group had in store, they were amounting a mass of individuals, when would they strike.
When Mason asked about anyone important in Tomas’s life he felt his heart skip a beat. Did he know something, had Tomas given his thoughts and dreams away. Then logic kicked in, of course Mason didn’t know anything because there was nothing to know. “The usual inane types,” he shrugged “Nothing that holds my interest,” it was true, no one he ever dated held his interest passed the bedroom, he thought about dating a different type of woman but the only person who came to mind was Maddie and that felt dangerous, forbidden and recently- worth the risk.

Little supernovas in my head; Little soft pulses in my deadLittle souvenirs and secrets shared; A little off-guard and unprepared
The time that he’d spent with Cami was comfortable. Mason enjoyed her company. They could have fun going out or staying in, and they seemed to be doing well, in his opinion. She was smart and funny and she had it together. She was way too good for him, and he knew it. Things were great, until she started looking for more. She needed him to be there for her, she was looking for support. He struggled to understand just what she needed from him, and ultimately screwed it up burying himself in more work instead of putting more effort into their relationship. She had been right to leave him. She was right about how badly he sucked at communicating. None of that was a surprise to him. What had been a surprise was how much he missed her presence in his life. But he couldn’t be the guy that she wanted, the guy she deserved. So he just refocused on his work, on Blackstorm, and on dealing with his mother. He had enough on his plate, it was easy to avoid looking for a relationship. ”No, I haven’t. And thanks for putting that thought in my head, I hadn't even considered that. But no, she’s not really the reason.” Mason shrugged. ”I don’t find random hookups as appealing as some people do.” He gave his friend a pointed look. He didn’t judge Tomas for the number of women he ran through, but that just wasn’t his thing. When the conversation came around to Tomas’ own love life, he confirmed that there was no one special. Mason had expected as much, but he had hope that his friend would find someone that was able to hold his attention at some point. Tomas deserved happiness. Whether he would recognize that was a whole other story. ”All three of us are going to die alone at this rate.” Mason was only half joking. His sister was a lot like Tomas in habit, though occasionally she would pretend to get serious with someone, however briefly. Then, almost as soon as she introduced them, something would happen and she’d make the trio get together to cheer her up.
