ShapeshiftingRory is able to shapeshift into any animal he has seen in person, whether that be in the wild or in captivity. All animals that he becomes will have the same coat colour and markings, and scars or injuries will transfer with the shift. When he shifts, his clothes become part of his fur/skin, aside from his collar.
The animal's instinct is always with Rory when shifted, and sometimes in times of extreme emotion it takes control in an effort to keep Rory alive during what it might perceive to be a dangerous situation.
THE LOOKS
HEIGHT: 4’10”
HAIR COLOR: Red
EYE COLOR: Dark Brown
FACE CLAIM: None
OVERALL APPEARANCE: A small adult and a small animal, Rory is short and slender with neatly brushed red hair, pale, freckled skin and dark brown eyes that always seem rather distant. His clothing is always quite similar; dark top (turtleneck in the winter, t-shirt in the summer) and trousers, and running shoes, all intended to make sure he can move quickly and easily without being restricted by his outfit. He has a clean, green collar around his neck, normally hidden by either his turtleneck or scarf, though in summer it may be visible; the collar contains a tracking device, so his handler can always locate him, and has a tag with his handler’s name and address on so he cannot be mistaken for a stray when in animal form. He has a scar on his chest, but it’s hidden by his clothing.
In animal form, Rory is always very small. He’s solid red, preferring the form of a Rhodesian Ridgeback, with a white splash on his chest, just below where his scar is. His eyes remain dark brown, and his collar is always visible.

OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Quiet and cautious, Rory is the obedient type, always preferring to follow orders rather than make his own mind up and think for himself. Although friendly towards others, he's also still cautious, wary of revealing his nature to others, and can be suspicious of strangers at first. When in battle he's a fearsome foe and unless his handler orders him to, he refuses to back down from any challenge, even if it puts his own life at risk. Despite this, Rory doesn't actually enjoy fighting - actually, he hates it, and regrets every Gifted he has hurt or killed in the name of following orders. But more than anything, he's scared of not being useful, worried if he stops helping the hunters, he'll be next on their list of targets, though he would trust his handler with his life.

HISTORY:
Born what his mother would term a 'wild' shapeshifter, Rory's family territory bordered another as he aged, and lived as wild wolves would. When he was born, his parents were not yet separated, and Edward would come by to bring food and help care for his children. But soon Rory turned five, Rowena would find Edward hid a secret from her; while they were both Gifted, he worked for the hunters, a willing killer of their own kind. The two fought bitterly, Edward fleeing the pack's territory, never to return. Now forced to hunt alone for three children, Rowena began to struggle to keep up. Five year olds couldn't help with the hunt, after all. Rory's older brother, Ruadh, tried to help where he could, but he was only ten and not experienced enough. Instead of participating in hunts, Ruadh did the only thing he could think of to help. He ran away from the pack, and joined the Hunters, hoping without another mouth to feed Rowena could provide for the younger twins. Rowena was outraged, and declared him dead to her remaining children. Kelsi and Rory grieved for their brother, believing her.
Another year passed. Pressure from the neighbouring pack was growing, and their leaders were often found on the territory, trying to persuade Rowena to surrender her land and join their pack instead. Rowena would refuse, returning home bearing fresh wounds from fending them off. It was while Rowena was out defending her territory that the hunters came. Whether they found the den by accident or the family was betrayed, Rory never found out. Kelsi fled into the woods at the first sign of danger. Rory obeyed his mother's teachings and remained in the den, trembling with fear as he heard humans digging him out, expecting any moment to be killed like his mother had told him would happen if hunters ever found him. But he wasn't. The hunters, seeing how young he was, seemed to take pity on him and instead took him back with them. Having lived a wild life, it was decided he would be assigned to a regular human hunter, who essentially trained him as he would a dog.
From the age of six, Rory was raised a hunter. He never found out what became of his sister, who had fled that day. His mother, he knew, was alive, and the true target of the hunters - they had been trying to kill her, as she had previously killed their own in vengeance of Edward's 'betrayal'. He was never reunited with Edward or Ruadh either, though whether that was intentional on his handler's part, he never knew. His handler, James, was tolerant of him, but treated him like an entirely different species; more a dog pup than human child as he grew. Rory learnt to play the part, the pair becoming a strong team as Rory entered first his teens, then adulthood.
It was when Rory was eighteen that he faced his first real challenge. A Gifted able to use telekinesis. Rory had leapt to attack too soon, and was struck in the chest by a sharp piece of metal the other Gifted had thrown his way. That day, he found that while James didn't view him as a human partner, he did view him as a canine one; their bond was like police officer and police dog, and James didn't hesitate to kill the Gifted who had hurt Rory, before rushing to Rory's side to put pressure on the wound. Rory recovered, but was left scarred.
Now, the pair remain a strong team. Though Rory remains fearful of what would happen to him if he ever stopped being useful to the hunters, he trusts James to have his back in battle.
