Erik wasn't an outdoor person, frankly he preferred to watch nature through a tv screen. That involved a lot less hiking, sweating, and little brothers stranding you in a national forest by leaving with the car after an argument. One day he was going to wring Mathias' neck and he'd finally free himself from this fucking headache.
He'd brought this on himself, he should have ignored the call. Let Mathias clean up his own mess, but no, instead he had driven out to the forest with his trunk filled with the equipment necessary to bury a body. This is why he hated this whole hunter business, even when he'd made it clear to his brother he wasn't going to get involved with the physical side of hunting gifted he still got dragged into it. So he'd picked up his brother and the tarp-wrapped body before he'd driven up one of the many winding gravel roads to help bury the body. They'd ended up hiking with it for a while before finding a good spot to get rid of the evidence.
After, things had evolved like they usually did and they'd ended up in another screaming match and his brother had stormed off towards the car. Erik had intended to take the time to calm down and let his brother stew in the car, except when he finally followed the car was gone.
"I don't fucking care, turn back around now." Erik snarled into the phone, trying his hardest to kill his brother through voice alone. "You are not leaving me stranded here after I-" A pause.
"You're kidding me..." The brat had hung up on him! He pressed the icon for his brother number and was met with nothing. Taking a deep breath Erik barely kept from screaming. This was the thanks he got after everything he did, he didn't even know why he bothered. Everything he did was wrong anyway and came back to bite him in the ass.
At least things couldn't get worse than this.
Then, as if the heavens heard his thoughts it started pouring down. Standing there in his jeans, dark cotton t-shirt, and leather jacket he was wholly unprepared for the rain. "I- "he said with remarkable calm -"am going to kill him."

tell me how you reach the moon — my thoughts err away tonight ❝ Another day in nature to make up for all the tike she had soent in her room lately. Charlotte had brought Jack along again to take a walk in the national forest, and she had parked her car nearby so they could drive home afterwards. The two followed the trail for quite some time when she heard an angry voice up ahead. A bit hesitantly she continued her walk down the path, because at this point on the route, there wouldn't be a fork that split up the paths for quite some time, and turning back seemed boring. She still had Jack with her, although he didn't exactly give her scary dog privileges. He was so cuddly and cute looking. Charlotte continued and saw a man saying he was going to kill someone. Shit. Turning around seemed like the best idea now. Sadly for her, Jack's lack of scary dog privileges also meant that he was way too excited. He panted and barked once when he saw the individual, eager to meet someone new. The blonde looked at the man with a sheepish smile on her face. "Hello", she said as she tried to walk forward past him, but Jack wasn't having it and stood still next to the stranger, waiting for pets. Tugging on the leash and begging him to walk would be suspicious, so she stood still and looked at the man again. "I'm so sorry", she said, mentally begging the dog to move. Erik Vaughn ● let me know if I need to change something!

The excited barks of a dog drew him out of his internal grumblings, though a scowl was still firmly in place. Eyebrows raising he gave the enthusiastic dog a narrow-eyed look. He was firmly a cat person, dogs were altogether much too excited and prone to slobber. They were still preferable to most people at least.Turning to look at the woman, clearly the owner of the dog, he gave an unimpressed look.
"Hello." His tone was dry as dust, but he forced himself to keep a semi-civil tone though there was a clear edge to it. "It's fine as long as he doesn't jump on me."If that happened all bets were off. Right, he needed to keep his irritation in check. Right now he was going to need to ask for directions as while he knew where to go for the car, the car was now gone, and he'd parked it in a well-hidden place when he had. Not an ideal place to try and find someone he could hitchhike with back to the city or hope that a cab could find.
So, he needed an alternate route home.
"Could you tell me which trail would take me closer to the city?" Erik asked, trying to move a bit away from the dog. Not wanting to get his clothes covered in dog hairs, not to mention Findus always got quite upset when there was the scent of another animal on him. "My idiot brother left me stranded as he took off with the car." His scowl deepened as he said this, throwing his phone a murderous glare as if that somehow would transmit it to the right recipient.

tell me how you reach the moon — my thoughts err away tonight ❝ The man did not look pleased to see a dog, but luckily Jack was a well behaved one, so apart from the few barks, he would behave nicely. He was just curious. Perhaps he had smelled the stench of death on him, because it was unusual for Jack to linger near someone he didn't know for so long. The man did not sound nice, and his gaze gave Charlotte the chills, but she nodded kindly when he greeted her and said the dog was fine as long as he didn't jump on him. "Uhm", she said as she looked around. "This trail goes on for a little while, but then you should come to a T in the road, and if you go right, there is a map that shows the trails and their directions." She noticed that he stepped away from Jack and she used that opportunity to get him to come back to her, which he luckily did. The dog sat down at her feet, still looking at the man. "Oh that's no fun", she responded to the remark about his brother. She wondered why he had left him behind, but decided against asking that question. "I could, uh, walk with you til you find the map, if you want? Just to make sure you find your way home?" She really didn't want to do that, but perhaps, if he had bad intentions, he wouldn't do anything if she willingly walked with him.

He could see the woman was nervous around him, which didn't surprise him really. Erik was aware enought that he was sure meeting a clearly irritated man while you were walking along a forest trail alone wasn't the most reassuring thing. Even if she did have a dog. At least her nervousness didn't hamper her ability to give directions. Some of the tension in his shoulders eased as well when the dog returned back to his owner.
"I see, thank you." A map would certainly be helpful, though... "You wouldn't happen to know how long it would take to get to the map? And from there to get back tot he city?"
His eyebrows rose in surprise when she offered to follow him there, the surprise breaking through the irritated scowl on his face. It softened the harsh lines of his face for just a moment. Perhaps if he was a better person, or just more polite, he would demurr the offer and instead try to find his way back himself. Erik however was well aware he was not an outdoorsy person, and he'd take any offer of help that would ensure he'd get out of this damned forest easily.
"I would appreciate that." Pocketing his phone, he then held his hand out for a handshake. "I'm Erik Vaugh, I work as an attorney and as you might be able to tell this isn't my usual "scene"." His voice was so dry you could practically hear the air quotes. He didn't bother saying anything else to reassure her that he wasn't a murdering psycho, that wasn't his style.
Besides, given he'd just helped bury a body some caution probably wasn't unwarranted on her end.

tell me how you reach the moon — my thoughts err away tonight ❝ "Uhhm, she responded, hesitantly. "The map is about ten minutes from here, but from there to the city, I'm not sure." It depended on whether he found his car, or if he needed to walk or use the metro. The man looked a tad less harsh and intimidating when Charlotte offered to walk with him. He offered his hand and introduced himself. The blonde shook his hand and smiled softly. "Charlotte Lewis. Jack and I come here often, so I'm familiar with these woods." She shortened the leash so Jack wouldn't go towards Erik again. Not because she was afraid of what he'd do, no, she had eased up a little bit, but because the man had said he wasn't too fond of dogs. She wasn't the type to bother people with animals they didn't like. Charlotte would start to walk, checking to see if Erik was following. "Shame about your brother", she said, trying to make some small talk. Hopefully he gets back to you soon." She didn't want to pry too much, because she didn't want to be impolite.
