Persuasion
Ethan learned early in life that he has the ability to persuade people into doing what he wants, just by talking to them. He is able to convince them to do things that they likely would not have done otherwise. Given enough time away from him, the effects will wear off. He just comes off as extremely charismatic to those who don’t know that he is gifted.
With his particular ability, he is able to easily persuade a change of opinion for most people, but if it’s a strongly held belief or something that is more ingrained in a person, it’s harder than just deciding what to get for lunch. If he has skin to skin contact, the persuasion is much harder to resist than when he only verbalizes what he wants someone to do. He’s been known to use a handshake as a way to have skin to skin contact and get someone to agree to something they normally would be extremely opposed to, such as forgetting about filing the paperwork for a crime one of his clients may have committed.

HISTORY:
Ethan was born into a wealthy family. He is the third child out of four, with an older brother and younger twin sisters. He and his siblings went to the best private schools and education was stressed for them. Ethan always got along with his younger sisters more than he did with his older brother, but they were all spread out in age and the girls were involved in competitive dance. He spent far more time with Oliver than he did with McKenzie and Amelia.
Growing up, he knew that his father was an attorney, and he knew that he represented a lot of the same clientele time after time. Ethan and his older brother, Oliver, spent a lot of time at his father’s office while they were teenagers. Alan wanted to show the boys what it was like, working hard and being respected in the legal field. He didn’t flagrantly disregard attorney-client privilege, but Alan did not keep his cases completely separate from his sons. The boys were there with him during some meetings, they assisted him with research, and if they had questions about the cases he was working on, he would answer them. Alan’s children grew up knowing about the gifted community, and knowing about their father’s general prejudice against them.
Oliver was the golden boy. Great at sports, intelligent, and following right in his father’s footsteps. In their father’s eyes, Oliver did everything correctly. He graduated from law school near the top of his class, and went right into a position at Alan’s firm. Ethan, on the other hand, was terrible at sports. He was cut from team after team that his father pushed him to try out for. He did have an interest in pursuing a law degree, just like his father and brother, and he was a good student. However, he did not want to work at his father’s firm, or represent any of his father’s clients. Ethan had a secret, and he was determined to keep it from his family. He figured out he was gifted when he was in high school, after several instances of getting caught breaking the rules and convincing the staff members to let him off the hook for his misbehavior. At first, he didn’t think there was any way it would work, but time after time, it did. He grew to realize it was more than just being charming, that there was an actual power there. He probably would have just considered himself extremely lucky, had he not known anything about his father’s clientele.
Ethan spent the next few years trying to figure out what to do. He couldn’t tell his parents about his gift, they wouldn’t understand it. Would they hate him, like they hated other gifted? The only things he had heard from them were how bad the gifted were for society, and how they should be stopped from taking over. Instead of telling them, Ethan worked hard to finish his law degree and pass the bar exam. His father expected him to follow Oliver and join the family firm, but Ethan instead applied for several law firms around the state of California, and landed a position at a firm in Los Eurosia.
Even though his relationship with his parents is strained after choosing not to work for his father, Alan and Anna bought a vacation home in Los Eurosia and that is where Ethan lives. The house isn’t quite a mansion, but it is large enough for his whole family to spend time there without tripping over each other.
Ethan works hard at his law firm. He doesn’t flaunt his gift, but he also doesn’t shy away from using it when he needs to in order to keep his clients out of trouble. He moved to Los Eurosia to avoid working for the guild, but it is known that he is his father’s son, and from time to time he does end up with a guild member as a client. Depending on the circumstance, sometimes he doesn’t go to the same lengths for them as he does for his regular clients, though he isn’t stupid enough to make that common knowledge.
