He always had a headache after work. The consistent and annoying throbbing at his temples. What felt like someone taking a hammer to the back of his skull. Getting away from all the noise and smells helped a lot. As did just feeling the damp earth beneath his feet. For a moment he sat like that with his eyes closed. Just listening to the sound of the wind in the trees. The bird chirping above him. The little creatures scurrying between bushes and fallen leaves and twigs. He let the fresh air fill his lungs and just enjoyed the calm that washed over him. Slowly the throbbing and pounding lessened. It wouldn't fully go away for at least another hour. But it was at least easier to drown out this way.
Finally Jacob stood and stretched his arms over his head with a groan. His joints felt stiff and his legs itched for a good run. First he sniffed the air, just to ensure there were no nosy onlookers nearby. Then he moved to his usual tree that he'd dug a little burrow underneath and covered with leaves, moss, and a large log. He moved those to the side first before he stripped down and buried his clothes there. Then he covered them again and let that feeling take over him. That wild, instinctual, animalistic feeling he had grown so familiar with. After years of practicing this transformation it took no more than a few seconds before he found himself on all fours. Body covered in soft fur as his front legs stretched out and dug his claws into the soft soil.
Then, without a moments hesitation, he was off. Bolting through the dense woodland. Ducking under thin, low branches from trees. Scaring off the small prey creatures that were looking for food. This was what he needed. To feel the wind in his fur. Feel the rapid beating of his heart in his chest as he sprinted through the forest. His ears flattened against his head, his body streamlined. Those joints that had felt stiff and achy waking like a slumbering beast.
Jacob came to a stop after a long few minutes. He panted slightly and shook some dew from a recent rain from his fur before he stretched again. His body felt far more relaxed as he sat to scratch behind his ear with his hind leg.

[nospaces] [attr="class","SETHLyrics"] I've been walkin' through a world gone blind[break] Careful creature made friends with time. He left her lonely with a diamond mind. [break] Burning cities and napalm skies. Fifteen flares inside those ocean eyes. [break] [attr="class","SETHBody"]
Seth had been back at her campsite in the woods for a little bit now. The first thing she’d done when she got back was go looking for her cellphone. She was able to find it, dropped in the dirt, not as close to the riverbank as she would have imagined it would have been. It still seemed like it had gotten wet, undoubtedly from the late afternoon summer storms that seemed to roll through nearly daily at times. [break][break]
She’d been disappointed at first, but she took the phone back to her tent and cleaned it up, careful to let it dry out for a couple days before trying to plug it into the solar powered battery charger she had. It still turned on, still seemed to work, but it was on its last legs. She would need to replace it soon. Or, at the very least, back up all her information and pictures so she could access them easily when it eventually gave out before she replaced it. [break][break]
She still wasn’t back to 100%. She didn’t know if it was more physical or just psychological at this point. She’d been sticking close to her camp, aside from her venture to find the phone. She decided that today, she was going to push herself to start getting back to her normal routine. [break][break]
Seth headed out, ignoring the main hiking trail like usual. She’d been sticking close to camp, but she still knew the forest well enough to find her way through. She made it to a clearing and paused to catch her breath. She was far more out of shape than she’d realized, she wasn’t even thirty minutes away from her campsite yet. [break][break]
“Damn.” She mumbled to herself, leaning slightly and bracing the spot where the cut to her stomach was still tender. It would still ache mildly from time to time, especially when she was overexerting herself. Though, normally she wouldn’t call taking a walk anything close to overexertion. She sighed and decided it was probably best to head back to camp. [break][break]
When Seth had caught her breath and stood back up straight, she realized she was no longer alone in the clearing. Between her and the path she needed to get back was a coyote. It was watching her, calculating. Seth knew they were usually skittish around humans, and she raised her hands and yelled, hoping to scare it off. Instead of running, it just haunched down and growled at her aggressively. [break][break]
“Well, crap.” Seth began backing away slowly, continuing to watch the coyote as she backed up. Just her luck, she would come across one that had no fear of humans. She’d use her ability to try to tangle it up in vines if it got any closer, but she hated doing anything to harm the wildlife. She was the one who didn’t belong there in the forest, not them, and she had a healthy respect for that fact.

Jacob smelled her long before he ever actually saw her. A woman wandering in the forest, presumably alone, she wasn't hard to pick out. He tried to stay out of her way once he noticed she was near by. Most humans tended to have a healthy fear of seeing a wolf wandering around the forest. Which was fair. And she had that sort of sharp scent he got from most other gifteds. But he couldn't pinpoint out exactly what she was. Not another shifter. He knew their smells. He would catch glimpses of her red hair through the foliage but what he really noticed first was a coyote. A very angry, very territorial mother to be exact. She likely had pups near by and didn't want some human coming to harm them.
Jacob pressed himself low to the ground, hoping that the coyote would just show some warning signs then leave the woman alone. If the woman was smart enough to back up anyway. That didn't seem to be the case. The coyote growled. Baring her teeth with her hackles raised threateningly. Clearly she'd dealt with people before and wasn't about to take her chances with another. As she began moving closer Jacob wasn't going to give her the chance to lunge. He stepped out from under some dense brush and put his large body between the woman and the mother coyote. His lips pulled back in a warning snarl, baring his large and viciously sharp teeth threateningly. His ears straight back and his muscles tense as he let a low and deep growl rumble from his chest.
The coyote turned her attention to him and snarled louder. Much more nervous with a larger predator in her way. Jacob didn't want to hurt her, just scare her enough so she'd wander off again. But he watched the coyotes eyes flicker back to the woman and he barked in warning. Which she seemed to take more of a challenge than anything else. The coyote launched from her spot and he wasn't sure if she was going for him or the woman but he moved to grab her by the scruff of her neck. The coyote let out a loud scream like howl as she kicked and snapped at anywhere she could get her teeth on. Jacob tossed her back to where she'd been crouched before and let out another loud warning growl.
She snarled and yapped at him. If her pack was near by he would be in a lot more trouble. A single coyote wasn't going to be a problem with for him but six or more against one was a different story. lost in the thrill of it all Seth Perry // Let me know if you need me to change or add anything at all! ☀[googlefont=Merriweather Black]

The hazing tactic had been a bad idea it seemed. Seth knew it wasn’t wise to run from a coyote even in the best of shape, which she was not currently in. She was backing away, but she’d already clearly angered the coyote somehow. She wasn’t sure what she’d done, but it was acting extremely territorial and must have had a reason. [break][break]
When the wolf appeared, she wasn’t immediately sure it wasn’t going to attack her. But she realized rather quickly, when it turned toward the coyote instead of her. [break][break]
The coyote seemed to challenge the wolf, but even Seth knew that was unusual behavior. The wolf was much larger, and usually the more aggressive animal. With the way the wolf was acting, Seth did wonder if this wolf was a shifter, she’d run into one in this forest before. It wasn’t the same, at least it didn’t look the same. Did they always look the same? Maybe it was the same guy she’d run into before. Or maybe it wasn’t a shifter at all, and it was an actual wolf. That thought was chilling. What would they be challenging each other for? Going after her for dinner? [break][break]
Seth slowly backed up a couple more steps as the two animals escalated their confrontation. The direction to her camp was blocked by them, but she supposed she could go around and find another way back. She kept an eye on the coyote and the wolf. It seemed like the wolf had the coyote in a no win position. She skirted around the edges of the clearing, giving them as wide a birth as possible. [break][break]
She was paying more attention to the canines than where she was walking. Her foot caught on an exposed root. She stopped herself from hitting the ground, but it caused her to wince in pain as it pulled at the recently healed muscles of her stomach. She leaned against the tree, taking in deep breaths. Why was getting away from danger so hard? Seth wondered if it was because she was so panicky. She didn’t handle danger or stress well. She got flustered easily, made mistakes, or was just careless or thoughtless. [break][break]

The two snarled at each other more. Fur bristled, teeth bared, ear. He could hear the woman behind him shuffling around them. He had no idea where she was going but he didn't know why she wanted to get any closer to this coyote. As the woman tripped over something the coyote flicked her eyes to the woman on the ground but Jacob shifted his stance. Moving to stand between the two of them again so his body blocked the line of sight to the redhead behind him. The coyote seemed to weigh her options as she lowered herself closer to the ground. Before apparently deciding that trying to attack the woman encroaching on her territory wasn't worth it anymore. So she snarled once more before she quickly rushed back further into the woods again.
Jacob was still worried about her possibly having a pack somewhere nearby but decided to turn his attention to the woman behind him. He wanted to ask if she was okay. Almost thought of shifting back to help her up but his clothes weren't nearby. The last thing he was sure this woman wanted to see was some naked stranger in the middle of the woods offering her help. So he slowly moved closer to her. His head down, his ears still pressed back, his tail tucked. Anything to make himself appear as small as possible. To make himself seem like less of a threat as he slowly padded closer to her. He kept his body low to the ground until he was close enough to really sniff her out. Was she already hurt?
He let out a soft whimper as she shoved his muzzle under her hand then moved to let her hand rest on his head for a moment. This would have worked a lot easier in his human form. Jacob wanted to ask if she could stand, if she'd injured herself, if there was someone he could call to help her. Instead he gently grabbed a bit of her shirt in his teeth and gave it a tug. Trying to encourage her to stand up. Even offering to let her put her weight on him if she needed to. Maybe if he could lead her back to his truck he could get some clothes on and see where he could help her.
Though he wasn't sure how she might respond to seeing a wolf turn into a man. He attempted to nudge her back to her feet while not seeming like he was attempting to hurt her. He finally moved around closer to her back and pressed his head against her shoulder. Pushing against her to stand up until she was on her feet once again. He moved back in front of her with his tail swishing behind him slightly as he looked up at her with triumph. Jacob huffed softly as he looked around, curious where she'd been going before. If she was trying to get out of the woods she was going the wrong way.
Maybe she was camping nearby though? It didn't seem like she was in was in any shape to be camping though. lost in the thrill of it all Seth Perry // Let me know if you need me to change or add anything at all! ☀[googlefont=Merriweather Black]

Seth was almost certain that the wolf that came to her aid was a shifter. Why else would it have helped her like that? Why would it be so docile now, so persistent at sticking close to her? It wasn’t the same shifter she’d met before, she was sure of that. She wasn’t sure what the wolf wanted, but she didn’t feel threatened by him even the slightest bit. [break][break]
The wolf pushed his muzzle under her hand and she gave a small smile. It wasn’t until he tugged at her shirt and then started moving around her, nudging her in various spots, that she realized what he wanted. She was still down, and had been too consumed with self-pity to get back up before. “Oh.. Yeah, I can get up.” She got back to her feet. “I’m okay, see?” [break][break]
She let out a laugh when the wolf moved in front of her, wagging his tail and looking happy. She had the urge to scratch behind his ears like she’d do with a dog who was wagging their tail like that. Would it be offensive to scratch behind a shifter’s ears? She hadn't known any before, so she really wasn’t sure what would or wouldn’t be considered offensive. [break][break]
She wondered if she could be wrong, if this could be a regular wolf. But the behavior, the concern the wolf was showing for her, it all added up. “You’re Gifted, right? A shifter?” She decided to ask, instead of dancing around the subject that seemed so delicate. “I don’t mean any harm.. I just, well, I appreciate you helping me.” [break][break]
Seth didn’t offer up the fact that she was also Gifted.

Once she was up and seemed to be well enough to function on her own. So perhaps he didn't need to call an ambulance for her. Her question on him being Gifted was met with a soft huff and a quick, slightly awkwardly looking nod. It looked a little more like he'd sneezed but he was hoping it got across the same concept. This hadn't been exactly what he was planning on getting into when he came for his run. There were now some scratches and bite marks on him from the coyote. He was used to getting into scraps when he was shifted. With other animals or even other shifters. it was entirely why he carried a first aid kit in his truck.
Though had he known he might run into an injured woman he would have just carried his clothes with him so he could change when he got to her. He wanted to ask what she was doing all the way out here. Was she being hunted? Was she a Hunter? That thought made him more anxious. He'd only dealt with a Hunter once before in his life. They weren't a group to be trifled with and had he not been able to get the gun out of the mans hand he wouldn't have stood a chance against him.
Thinking about it made Jacob take a few steps away from the woman. Though she didn't seem in any state to fight him. Especially while he was in this form. He didn't want to assume the worst though. With another soft huff he looked back towards the direction he'd parked his truck. At least there he could get some clothes on to talk to her. And maybe offer to patch her up if she was hurt.
He did a small circle around her for her before trotting back a bit towards his truck. Only to stop and look back at her expectantly. His honey brown eyes turned to her as he stood with one large paw still up, ready to start off. Though he wasn't sure if maybe she would want to follow him. lost in the thrill of it all Seth Perry // Sorry this is kind of a mess lol Let me know if you need me to change or add anything at all! ☀[googlefont=Merriweather Black]

It was a little awkward, trying to communicate with a wolf. But he seemed to answer her query easily enough, using nods and noises to his advantage. She felt badly that she’d gotten someone else tangled up in her own mess, that she wasn’t able to protect herself from the coyote. Nonetheless, she was grateful that he’d shown up and protected her. If she hadn't been so stupid in the first place, this wouldn’t have been an issue. She should have just stayed close to camp instead of thinking she was okay enough to wander around again. [break][break]
“Thank you.” She spoke softly, careful not to make any quick movements. She knew how scared she was of people figuring out her gift, and she could only hope she hadn't made him scared of her or uncomfortable. She was hyper aware of him moving back from her, and she stood in place until he started circling around her after giving a huff. [break][break]
Was he trying to tell her to follow him? Seth watched as he began moving, then stopped and looked back at her. “Alright.” She smiled, then began to follow the wolf. He certainly knew how to communicate effectively without speaking, getting his point across without much fuss. [break][break]
The last time she’d encountered a wolf shifter, they lived in the forest. As she followed this one, she wondered if that was the same for him, or where he was leading her. [break][break]
As Seth followed the wolf, she couldn't help but think about how soft his fur looked. She wondered what it would be like, to be able to change into an animal, to be something completely different. It had to make hiding from Hunters easier, right? How would they know a regular wolf from a shifter? Were there easy ways to tell? Or, if they were hunting a shifter would they just end up killing any wolves they found, not caring if they were wildlife or if they were Gifted? [break]

Jacob wasn't really used to communicating while in his wolf form. Well, except for with other shifters that is. And they seemed to have a sort of language all their own. At least the ones he'd grown up with. He hadn't actually met any other shifters since he moved to California which had been both nice a little lonely. There were few other people who understood him like his own kind. That tie he felt to his wolf form. To the freedom and need to run. To be more animal than man most of the time. But as it were he was happy to settle in and have time to run on his own. No fighting for space or territory. Just him and the open land. That is until he ran into a stranger being harassed by a coyote.
He trotted towards his truck easily. Knowing the way back like the back of his hand. Or, paw. Occasionally he would pause to look back to make sure the woman was still following. He'd sniff the air to make sure they weren't being followed back or that there weren't any unknown hikers wandering around. Or park rangers or other campers. Not that most people just wandered this far off of the trail willy nilly. Once they were back to his old truck he grabbed his clothes. He moved to the other side of his pickup to shift back. The feeling of his bones shifting back into place as he moved to stand up on two legs instead of four a familiar sensation at this point. He pulled on his boxers and pants first before he walked back around as he was pulling on his shirt.
"Sorry 'bout that," he said with an easy smile as he sat on the open bed of the truck to pull his socks and boots back on. "I wasn't expecting to run into anyone all the way out here or I would'a brought my clothes a little closer," he added once he was fully dressed. Jacob hopped down and dragged his fingers through, what he was sure, was a mess of his short blonde hair. "My name's Jacob," he offered as he held out his hand to greet her properly. He was still curious as to what she was doing all the way out in the woods by herself. Was she by herself?
"Are you injured at all? I've got a first aid kit in my truck if you need it," she seemed well enough to walk on her own which was good. So he didn't think he needed to get her to a hospital. Still, he wanted to be sure there wasn't anything else wrong if he could help with it. lost in the thrill of it all Seth Perry // Let me know if you need me to change or add anything at all! ☀[googlefont=Merriweather Black]

Seth wondered if she was being stupid again, trusting someone she didn’t know. Another stranger. But the shifter had just saved her from being attacked by the coyote, so it wasn’t like she had a reason to distrust him. She followed him nonetheless, curiosity and perhaps loneliness getting the better of her, making her judgment a bit more lax than it should be. [break][break]
She saw the truck before they got into the clearing. She hung back while the wolf moved around the vehicle, noticing that he grabbed clothes on the way around. Clearly, he hadn't wanted to turn back into a human so far away from his clothes. It made sense. [break][break]
He came back around, all charm and apologies. “I’m the one who should apologize. I didn’t realize I’d be wandering so close to an aggressive coyote.” She still wasn’t sure why the coyote was so aggressive, but she knew it was more her fault than anything. “Usually I’m not that dumb around the wildlife out here, I swear.” [break][break]
“I’m Seth.” She returned the introduction and shook his offered hand. She was still nervous about him being Gifted, and knowing she knew. But she pushed the feeling aside as best as she could. He was being kind, and he’d helped her. There was no reason to think that he was up to something shady. [break][break]
When he asked if she was injured, she shook her head. “No, I’m not. Well, not from today. I was injured a few weeks ago, but it’s mostly healed now. I just overestimated my own endurance I think. It’s still not the same as it was before.” She left out the nature of the injury and how she’d gotten it. Neither were important at the moment. [break][break]
“Thank you. For helping me, I mean. You didn’t have to do that, to put yourself at risk for a stranger.” She appreciated the fact that he’d put himself at risk in more than one way by helping her. He could have been hurt, and he exposed himself in a way that some Gifted - the ones like her - were afraid to do. “I have a campsite not too far from here. If you want, I could make you dinner as a thanks for helping me. I was going to grill some fish I caught earlier for dinner and make a salad.” [break][break]
Jason would have told her not to invite a stranger back to camp. He would have reminded her that they were still on the run from the hunters. But he wasn’t here anymore. It had been a year. She missed him so much, but at some point, she had to figure out how to move forward. Continuing to be a recluse and hiding out in the forest wasn’t the way to do that. [break]

"No worries, I think she probably just had her pups somewhere near by and you probably startled her is all," he said with a shrug. Though the movement made him grit his teeth to bite back a small hiss of pain. She'd gotten him good there apparently. But it was a pain he was accustomed to so it wasn't hard to ignore. "Well, it's lovely to meet you Seth," he responded sweetly with a much more charming smile. "What're you doin' out here all by yourself?" He assumed she was by herself anyway. Seeing as she hadn't mentioned anyone camping with her as of yet and she'd been wandering around alone. Also the fact that she was out camping when she'd been injured not long ago? Was that really safe?
He kept his mouth shut on that topic. For now at least. He didn't want to upset her by making it seem like he thought she was incompetent. As she said he didn't have to put himself at risk for a stranger he scoffed slightly in annoyance. "That's my whole job," he said with a chuckle. Well, admittedly it wasn't his whole job but it was part of it. When push came to shove it was up to him to put himself in the line of fire to make sure others didn't get hurt. Serve and protect. That was his duty.
As she invited him back to her campsite he got that sneaking anxiety again that this could be a trap. She'd seen him shift now. Knew he wasn't just a man or just a wolf. What if she were a Hunter trying to lure him further into the woods to kill him? What if she wasn't alone? He hadn't exactly told anyone where he was going to be if he suddenly went missing. "You're not trying to lure me further into the woods to kill me right?" He asked the question jokingly but there was an edge of nervousness in his tone that he tried to laugh away. "If that's the case I'll have to politely decline," in his nervousness his southern accent bled into his words more. Even as he kept up that warm smile.
"If not however, I would love some grilled fish," he moved to the front of his truck and grabbed his belt. Which had his gun, an extra phone, a tazer, and a container of pepper spray all attached to it. lost in the thrill of it all Seth Perry // Let me know if you need me to change or add anything at all! ☀[googlefont=Merriweather Black]

When he said the coyote probably had pups nearby, it made far more sense why the tactics she was using weren’t working. She hadn't even considered that it was a mother trying to protect her young from a human. Of course it was acting aggressively and not backing down. Seth would have been treated as a threat to the coyote’s young, even though she hadn't known they were there. She’d never actually bother them, but a wild animal wouldn’t have any way to know a safe human from a bad human. [break][break]
To be honest, humans often couldn’t tell the difference between someone who was safe and someone who was a threat. Seth had made that mistake herself. She’d attacked first, thinking someone was a Hunter, when they were just trying to help her. Because of her misjudgement, she’d been suspected as a Hunter as well. It was all still a little weird.[break][break]
“That makes way more sense. I always thought coyotes were easily scared, and I didn’t know what else to really do. But I guess I probably did the worst thing I could have, if she had babies nearby.” [break][break]
He wasn’t the first to question her being alone. She knew that there was a reason no one expected a young, tiny woman to be on her own in an environment that could be very unfriendly at times. “That’s a pretty long and boring story, honestly.” Long, yes. Boring? That part was subjective, but mostly a lie. She didn’t know Jacob well enough yet though, she couldn’t tell him the whole story about why she was out there. She would have to get to know him. She needed to get to know more people, to branch out and start thinking about leaving the (relative) safety of the forest at some point. [break][break]
He declared that it was his whole job to help people, and Seth tilted her head slightly, letting a smirk pull at her lips. Her immediate thought was Batman or Superman, some kind of vigilante situation. But that was ridiculous and couldn’t have been what he meant. People who did that never revealed themselves on purpose, especially not to a stranger. That’s what the movies made it seem like, anyway. “Oh? What do you do?” [break][break]
Jacob asked, in a tone that was meant to be a joke but didn’t quite sound like one, if she was trying to lure him deeper into the woods to kill him. It wasn’t the first time she’d been suspected as a Hunter, but she still didn’t know what to say, how to assure him that she was, for the most part, harmless. “No, I’m not.. I’m not a Hunter.” She shook her head as the words bubbled up, out before she could filter the hunter part. Not everyone knew about them, but if he did know what they were he’d no doubt put it together that she was also Gifted. More so, he’d have no real reason to believe her, would he? [break][break]
As he moved back to the front of his truck, Seth shifted uncomfortably. She didn’t want another misunderstanding, something else that would come back to haunt her or even hurt her. “I know it’s hard to know who to believe, but I promise it’s just dinner as a thank you for literally saving my ass back there. And it wouldn’t hurt to have someone to talk to aside from the raccoon who would be trying to get his grubbly little claws into any leftovers.” She smiled, thinking about the raccoon. She affectionately referred to him as Bandit after he made off with two of her tomatoes one evening. [break]

"Eh, don't let them trick you," he warned with a chuckle. "Cyotes can be nasty little things even without protecting their pups if they're just hungry enough or you just catch them on a really bad day." Jacob still had a scar on his leg from being chased by a pack of them with his brother when he was younger. Before he properly knew how to control his shifting and had been too scared to change then. Though as she claimed that the story of why she was alone in the woods was "long and boring" he quirked a curious brow.
"I might believe it's long but there have been very few times someone has told me why they were in a certain situation that I found boring." Still, he wasn't going to pry. As far as he knew she could just be homeless. Or perhaps hiding from an abusive partner. Or maybe she just decided to take tree hugging to a whole new level. He wasn't going to badger her for details either way. It wasn't like he was arresting her.
As she asked what he did he became a bit more bashful. Jacob wasn't exactly ashamed of his line of work but he understood how a lot of cops got a bad rep. He wasn't ever upset when people became more suspicious or uncomfortable around him when they found out what he was. "I'm an officer. Serve and protect, ya know?"
Though as she claimed she wasn't a Hunter there was a bit more anxiety. He hadn't asked her if she was or not and he wouldn't exactly expect one of them to go around advertising that they murdered Gifteds for the fun of it. Still, as she went in about how she just wanted to thank him for helping her he tried to push down that nervous feeling in his gut. "Hey, no worries," he put both of his hands up with his palms facing out in a sort of placating stance. To let her know he didn't mean her any harm either.
"Lead the way," he said as he motioned for her to show him where she was staying. Or where she planned on making the food anyway. "So, not to pry," he started as he followed after her, "but how long have you been out here?" He asked curiously. Though he fully understood if she wasn't keen on answering. "Does this racoon friend of yours have a name?" lost in the thrill of it all Seth Perry // Let me know if you need me to change or add anything at all! ☀[googlefont=Merriweather Black]

He assured her that coyotes could sometimes be aggressive even without having young nearby to be protective of. She supposed it made sense, though knowing that now meant she’d have to be sure to give them a much wider berth from now on. She’d always assumed that they would be more scared of her than she was of them, but it did make sense that they could be aggressive for other reasons. And it wasn’t like she was big. She could do her best to act scarier than them, to act loud and aggressive herself, but she wasn’t very convincing. [break][break]
This had been one of the things she’d been thinking about lately, since Noah brought her back out to the forest. He’d gotten into her head about it and at first, she tried to dismiss his concerns, but if this incident now proved anything it was that he’d had a point. She was alone. If something happened to her, who would know? Who would be there to help her if she needed it? [break][break]
So far, she’d been lucky. There was always someone there to save the day whenever she got into trouble that she couldn’t handle on her own. But what would have happened if Jacob hadn't been out here today, if he hadn't run off that coyote for her? Would anyone miss her if she just disappeared? [break][break]
He expressed that he didn’t think her story could be boring, even if it was long. Then he went on, explaining that he was an officer and that was what made helping people his job. Seth stopped walking for a beat, mulling over the implications of that. If he was an officer, maybe he would have some insight on how to search for missing people? [break][break]
It was a mistake to bring up hunters, she could sense that much easily enough. But she couldn’t take back the words once they were out, so she was glad that he decided to follow her anyway. He asked her about how long she’d been there and about her racoon friend as they walked, and Seth let out a small laugh. “Off and on for the last year-ish, and yes, I did name the raccoon. I call him Bandit, and we have an understanding. He eats anything that I don’t so I never have to worry about attracting bears or anything.” Really, he ate anything she gave him. But it was cuter to think he did it to be helpful. [break][break]
“So, you said you’re a police officer…” She brought the conversation back around to his line of work as they were approaching the campsite.“Maybe you wouldn’t think it was such a boring story after all.” Her tent was set up, suv parked a few dozen feet away, and a couple camp chairs were folded up and leaning against a tree. If she brought him a little further past the tent, they’d be at her small vegetable patch. “Well, this is the campsite.” [break]

Jacob had spent his fair time living in the woods as well. Most of the time he hadn't even had a tent. Those days had been different for him though. Living more wolf than man as he wandered the wild. Trying to keep as far away from people as he could. He knew there were reasons people did what they did. Even if he didn't always understand those reasons. "Bandit's a good name for a raccoon, classic," he said with a small crooked smile.
Though when she said they'd come to an understanding he became curious. She knew what Hunters were, hadn't panicked when she saw him turn from a wolf to a person. Was she Gifted too? "Can you...actually talk to Bandit?" He asked curiously. Jacob knew there had been people that were able to talk to animals. Or read their thoughts? Mostly because of one man he'd met that had panicked when he found he wasn't able to communicate with Jacob the way he had other wolves.
As she brought the conversation back to him being a cop Jacob felt a little nervous again. Though for a different reason. Was she looking for help? Or looking for some kind of favor? Or was she one of those people that just really liked a man in uniform? As she claimed that perhaps he wouldn't find her story so boring. "So long as you're not a prison escapee," he teased with a small chuckle. "Though I suppose that could be a cool story too." Once they made it to her campsite he looked around for a moment and nodded to himself. "Better than the set up I had when I was living in the woods," he mentioned offhandedly as he looked back to her.
Even if she were just living in a tent he didn't want to disrespect her space. "Are you set up to keep warm though? I know Cali doesn't get that cold but winter can still be hell if you aren't keeping warm." lost in the thrill of it all Seth Perry // Let me know if you need me to change or add anything at all! ☀[googlefont=Merriweather Black]
