tell me how you reach the moon — my thoughts err away tonight ❝ Charlotte still wasn't sure whether she was a Halloween kind of girl or not. She did like autumn, and she did love the weather and the colours of the season, but she still wasn't sure whether she liked the whole idea of Halloween and dressing up. However, it was fun to get drunk and make out with people while dressed up, because it meant you wouldn't get recognised some other day. Today she would be setting up a little booth, to read tarot for a small fee. Three dollars, just a little something. Charlotte put out a chalkboard on which she wrote the price and welcomed people to sit down and ask a question. She would do a tarot reading for them. Charlotte didn't really believe in tarot herself, but money was money, and it was a fitting moment to do some spooky future telling. Charlotte was dressed up as a witch, and Jack (her dog) was dressed up as a bat. She had attached some wings to his harness, and he was just happy to be included. There were candles on the table, some fake spider webs, crystals here and there and her tarot deck ready for use. She had done a few readings already, and most of them were for teenage girls wanting to know whether Bruce or John would ever love them back, so Charlotte was getting a little tired of it. She rolled a cigarette and quickly did a little run around the festival to get herself some drinks, and then sat down again. "Tarot readings! Tarot readings for cheap!"______ OOC: For a little order: just let your character arrive, asking a question about their life ("when will I feel better? When will I meet the love of my life" etc) and I/Charlotte can respond with a reading (which I would do irl and include picturessss), then your character can respond. Unless something unplanned happens, a new character can approach and ask a question, and the cycle repeats. Idk could be fun!

rebellion is the only thing that keeps you alive
| Rowan and Riley had been dragging him around the festival all day, but he knew his suffering was far from over. Rowan still wanted to check out the haunted house, and Riley would not shut up about the ghost tour she wanted to go on later.
For now, they were waylaid at a tarot booth, where a blonde woman dressed as a witch was laying out cards and pretending to tell futures, or whatever tarot cards were used for. Rowan had already gone, asking a question about business prospects—probably still trying to decide what to do with the antique shop Aunt Maisy had left to him—and Riley had asked a question about her sad and pathetic love life (her words). Felix had been crouched down, scratching the ears of the dog at the witch’s side while they’d had their fun.
He assumed they were ready to move on now that they’d received their readings, but then Rowan pushed him down into the seat as if he was going to get a reading, too.
Felix glared up at his cousin, who spoke before he could declare his discontent. “I gave her ten dollars, Felix. That covers all three of us, plus a little tip. Just humor me?”
“Pleeeease?” Riley added, fixing him with an absurd expression that he’d heard Harper refer to as “puppy dog eyes”, as if it had any hope of swaying him.
“What’s the point?” he snapped, annoyed. It wasn’t like any of it was real, and even if it was, he didn’t want some stranger getting any sort of insight into his personal life, anyway.
“It’s fun,” Rowan said through gritted teeth, giving him a pointed look. He sighed and rolled his eyes. Whatever, it wasn’t like it was real.
“Ask a question,” Riley urged as he turned toward the tarot reader.
“I don’t have a question,” he insisted.
“Just a general reading then,” Riley said, smiling toward the blonde girl.
Felix nodded reluctantly when the woman looked at him. “Fine.” He waited for whatever nonsense was going to come out of her mouth this time. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TAG: Charlotte Lewis OOC: Felix is such a big rude difficult baby XD |

tell me how you reach the moon — my thoughts err away tonight ❝ It didn't take long before a little group approached her booth. She had smiled at them and had put away their money after voicing her appreciation for the tip. In return for the tip, they got a very excited Jack. The dog loved people and was more than happy to entertain the people that weren't in the seat getting their reading. Charlotte did a reading about business prospect - nothing too special, just the vague tarot advice that you could expect from tarot cards: take chances, it's time for a new start, all that bullshit. It was difficult for her to keep a straight face while telling them what their cards said. She didn't believe in it either. Then, the second reading was about love, which was always more fun. Charlotte told the person that they weren't ready to settle down, and they needed to stay single for a while. Focus on yourself, more tarot wisdom, don't settle too quick. Of course, she explained it in a little more detail.
They told their friend to get in the seat, and he very obviously didn't feel like it. Charlotte grinned a bit at him, amused by how much he didn't want to get a reading, but his friends decided for him that he wanted a general reading.
"A general reading it is, then", she said as she started shuffling the cards. They were still a little dusty, even though she had tried to get them clean. Who knew how long they had been in her grandmother's attic.
"It's a bit of a unique deck", she said, mostly to his friends, who had seemed to be more into the reading than he was. "It's a pip deck, meaning the pictures on it don't tell you a lot about what the cards mean. Regular decks have some symbolism in their iconology." Charlotte continued shuffling. "They've also made some changed to the suit names. Cups is elixers, and pentacles is coins."
Eventually, she felt like she was ready, and she pulled three cards. She laid them out in front of Felix and looked at him.
"Ready?" she asked, jokingly trying to be scary by wiggling her fingers in the air a bit like you'd see someone in a cartoon do.
Whether he was ready or not, she would start. "First up, eight of coins." She paused to think of the meaning and apply it to a general reading. "It tells you you should start something new, like a new job or something you're passionate about. But be careful, you shouldn't try everything all at once. Make sure you take your time for what you decide to do. Do it with dedication."Charlotte paused to gauge his reaction before she continued. "Then the eight of elixers. Oof, melancholy! Something you cared about or loved has come to an end. You need to accept it and leave it behind, but that's not easy for you. You've outgrown something, a job or a relationship. Remember that last card?" She tapped twice against her temple with a half-smile. "Start something new."
"Thennnn we have the queen of wands. A queen, nice. She's creative, she's a leader. That new thing you're going to be starting, you're going to be good at it. But it wouldn't be tarot without a warning. The queen is also fierce, and sometimes a little too fierce. Be sure to sometimes take a step back to breathe before you do or say something."
Jack barked and jumped against the table, as if he wanted to say something. "See, he agrees. My friend, you need to be a leader. Do something big."
Charlotte leaned back and spread her hands. "There you go!"

| The dustiness of the cards didn’t inspire any more confidence for Felix. Obviously this woman didn’t read them that often or they wouldn’t be so dusty. How experienced could she really be? Anything that came out of her mouth was likely to be a total load of bullshit.
Then she started speaking, and he was proven right.
Start something new? Do something he was passionate about? He couldn’t think of a single thing he felt passionate about.
“…melancholy…” she said, and Felix almost rolled his eyes. The only meaningful “job” he’d left behind was bounty hunting with his uncle, and he certainly felt no “melancholy” toward doing so.
She went on to say he’d be good at something, and that was where she lost him completely. Especially when she ended it with “…be a leader. Do something big.”
“Uh huh,” he said, fixing her with a briefly derisive look before standing up. What a waste of money.
“Thank you so much, that was awesome!” Riley said, shooting her mega-watt smile at the woman, even though Felix knew she was a little upset with her own reading. Her crush on Rowan was obvious to everyone—except maybe Rowan himself—and she was no doubt bothered by the fact that the woman had told her to remain single.
Taking relationship advice from fucking playing cards was the stupidest thing he’d ever heard, but he knew Riley would take what she’d been told to heart. She was into all the spiritual crap. What an idiot.
Rowan, generous as always, slid her another five. “For putting up with my cousin,” he said under his breath with a conspiratorial grin and a nod toward Felix, and this time Felix did roll his eyes. “Have a nice day!” he called to the woman as the three of them left her table, leaving it open for the next idiot who wanted to waste their money.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- TAG: Charlotte Lewis OOC: thank you for the reading Aenwyn ! It was actually quite fitting for Felix’s character, he’s just a skeptical little shit who’s determined for it not to be true XD Next person in line! lol

[nospaces] [break][break][break] [attr="class","NoahLpostlyric"]If you can gaze into the future[break] You might think life would be a breeze[break] [break] [attr="class","NoahLpostingbox"][break] “I’ve not forgotten about last year,” Rufus warned lowly. “If you see a friend and take off running again, this time I won't hesitate to tackle you to the ground like you’re a misbehavin' dog without a leash–”[break][break] Noah’s whipped around to look at him, eyes round with genuine amazement. “You think you could catch me?” At his age? When Noah was so fit? Was he really that naïve?[break][break] Rufus scowled. Probably about to give him a stern telling off. Probably one starting with ‘Listen, kid,’ despite Noah being almost thirty.[break][break] “Aw c’mon, I’m kidding! I’m sure you could.” Noah bumped into his side, chuckling. “I’m not going to run off, alright? I’m taking this a lot more seriously this time. I mean–” he grabbed Rufus’ arm and pointed towards a booth up ahead – “look over there! Tarot readings!” He grabbed onto Rufus’ other arm, forcing them to a standstill so Rufus had no choice but to meet his abruptly grave expression. “What if they’re real?” he whispered. “What if she really can tell the future?”[break][break] The sombre expression fell away as he snickered, already knowing that she couldn’t; psychics and fortune tellers were all fakes. No true gifted would be foolish enough to advertise their powers so overtly while there were hunters and the Sector around. And they certainly wouldn’t dress up as a witch – not like the blonde woman running the stool had.[break][break] He made a beeline towards her, smiling as he heard Rufus curse in his wake.[break][break] “Hey! Cute costume – and cute dog!” Noah didn't have a costume or a dog – consider him jealous. He beamed as he slipped onto the empty seat opposite her and handed over a five-dollar bill. “Could you tell me my future, please?” He felt a presence behind him and shot an amused glance up at Rufus who had come to stand there, his arms crossed tightly and exasperation clear on his features. Truly, he had a talent for looking like an underpaid babysitter. tell me how you reach the moon — my thoughts err away tonight ❝ Her last customer hadn't seemed too pleased with his reading, but Charlotte was too busy fo ussing on the new duo that was approaching her booth to give Felix' behaviour a second thought. At least his friends had been nice and had appreciated their reading. Now another handsome guy sat down in her chair, and he complimented both her and Jack. "Thank you", she responded with a soft smile. She winked at him as she took the dollar bill and out it away. The guy behind him almost looked like a body guard, and Charlotte found herself wondering what the relationship between these two was. Jack wouldn't be Jack if he didn't immediately try to grab the man's attention while Charlotte started shuffling the cards for Noah's reading. "Of course I can! It is one of my many witchy talents." The blonde chuckled. Maybe she should start acting. She liked pretending to be someone she wasn't. Charlotte shuffled some more and then took a card from the top of her deck. She placed it down on the table and looked at Noah. "The page of coins", she said, wiggling her eyebrows as if the bane of the card alone told her everything she needed to know about Noah. "It tells me you're a bookworm. You like reading and learning, but you might not always be willing to share your knowledge with just anyone. It could also mean you're either thinking of going back to school or studying something, or that you're having some financial troubles. If the latter is the case, the card urges you to think of creative ways to make some money. Kind of like I'm doing right now, huh?" Charlotte laughed and moved on to the next card on the pile. "Staying in the face cards I see, here we have the queen of elixirs. She's quite mysterious, charming, caring, but also seductive. She is good at sensing how people are feeling. The queen wants you to get in touch with your feminine side." Charlotte paused for a moment, a bit hesitantly. "I don't like how gendered that sounds. Anyway, she wants you to get in touch with your emotions!" She wondered how the young man in front of her would respond to being told he had to get in touch with his emotions. There was still a lot of fragile and toxic masculinity in the world, after all. And then the last card. "The eight of swords. Hmmm. It tells me it's possible that you'll encounter a time in your life in which you don't quite know what to do or feel. There's an obstacle, and you don't really know if it's you that has caused it or if it's someone or something else." The last step was to combine what she had said into something that could pass as advice. "In general, this reading means that the obstacle could make you a bit withdrawn, or even shy. The first two cards are both shy. The obstacle could be an emotional one, or a financial one, or both. You can find solutions in books, but understanding how you feel is also important to overcome it. I had hoped to give you something a little more positive." Charlotte chuckled. It wasn't her fault that the cards thought Noah would stumble upon an obstacle, and it was up to him to see if he believed in it or not. "But hey, the cards are positive, in a way. They say there will be a solution." She left the cards on the table and grabbed a napkin and a pen. "And if you ever need another reading to find those exact solutions, don't be afraid to call me", she said with a flirty wink, pushing the napkin his way. He was quite handsome, so why not shoot her shot while she was at it?

[nospaces] [break][break][break] [attr="class","NoahLpostlyric"]If you can gaze into the future[break] You might think life would be a breeze[break] [break] [attr="class","NoahLpostingbox"][break] The woman was welcoming and seemed happy to fulfil his request while Rufus – the big softie – apparently decided to make the best of his situation and stop sulking, as he uncrossed his arms and moved over to give the woman’s excitable dog some attention. Noah refrained from joining in; unfortunately, he expected the wagging tail would swiftly slow to a halt if he were to reach in the dog’s direction.[break][break] Noah occupied himself by watching the woman shuffle her deck instead, trying to see if she would employ any tricks to ensure she could present a specific card to him. But when she stopped to pull one out and lay it on the table, it seemed to be completely at random.[break][break] “The page of coins,” she began, wiggling her brows in a way that suggested she was absolutely taking her work very seriously. He snorted. He could relate.[break][break] She explained what the card meant, including that he liked books and didn’t always share information with others. That much was correct. Yet he chuckled, giving a soft shake of his head at the mention of ‘financial troubles’ and sending another mischievous glance to Rufus when she suggested finding creative ways to make some money. Blackstorm could be considered creative, right? Or at least, it wasn’t something that typically appeared on a résumé.[break][break] The next card claimed he should get in touch with his emotions. He cocked his head with a thoughtful hum. He… didn’t think he was the one who needed to face his feelings. No – he knew exactly what he felt and what he wanted. He just had to hide those wants sometimes. Suppress them when they got too insistent. He was fine. It was certain other people who were being stubborn and avoidant. Not him.[break][break] He blinked, huffing an amused breath through his nose when he realised he’d almost taken the tarot seriously for a moment.[break][break] The final card’s description put him at ease again, reaffirmed in his belief that it was all nonsense. It was just like zodiac signs; so vague the descriptions could apply to anyone. Most people ran into obstacles and overcame them. That was just life.[break][break] And him? Shy? It wasn’t a word he would associate with himself.[break][break] Noah nodded along to the woman’s final conclusion: that the cards were technically positive because they implied a solution to his future problem. He was prepared to thank her and stand up, but he paused when she started writing something and, a moment later, she revealed it was her phone number.[break][break] Noah took the offered napkin, eyes gleaming as his grin widened. “My, my, how kind of you… That’s true commitment to helping your customers. I bet you attract a lot of good karma.” He chuckled and shook his head again, returning her wink as he stood. “Thank you, and thanks for the reading. I had fun.”[break][break] After saying their goodbyes to both the woman and the dog, Noah and Rufus wandered away into the crowd, Noah the personification of smugness as he held up the napkin and waved it in Rufus’ face.[break][break] “See, I told you I was doing my job tonight.” Rufus batted his hand away and Noah laughed, pocketing the napkin before his Blackstorm bud could feel tempted to snatch it away or rip it up. “If the reading comes true, we’ll have a way to contact her! Another recruit for the roster. Everyone’s happy.”[break][break] Rufus sighed. “You’re insufferable, you know that?”[break][break] “Hm. Not so insufferable that I can’t get phone numbers.”[break][break] --- [break] OOC: Love it!
