“Your son’s surgery went smoothly, but I really must insist you let him get some rest. He’s got a long road of recovery ahead of him.” With a curt nod, Darcy turned on her heel and headed back up the hallway toward the nurse’s station to ensure they got the updates on her young patient’s room change so his visitors weren’t misdirected. And she just preferred to put a bit more distance in between herself and the panicked mother she just spoke with. There was something about working with kids and talking to their parents that always made Darcy feel uneasy. There was a reason she didn’t pursue pediatrics when she was picking her specialty. As a mother, she just couldn’t handle all her patients being children, especially when not all of them would make it. “Gideon Ramzi’s room won’t update in the automated system for some reason, it might just be my tablet, but he’s now in recovery room 310. His parents are there now, he’s got a three visitor limit while we try to keep him from getting overly excited… we don’t need his stitches tearing.” She gave a polite smile to the nurse who made a note and assured her she would be checking the system regularly to see when the update finally took. As convenient as the automated charting system was supposed to be, it still wasn’t perfect and had its moments. Darcy gave a nod and a simple ‘thank-you.’ as she headed toward the cafeteria for a hot coffee. She still had another three hours of her shift and she’d just spend that last four hours in surgery. She needed a minute to just sit and catch her breath. Thankfully, the ER wasn’t particularly busy right now and she could take a coffee break. Even if the coffee wasn’t anything to write home about, it was hot and gave her something to focus on that wasn’t her frustrating work schedule. It was 4AM, she knew better than to text her husband at this hour. If he was sleeping, she didn’t want to wake him, and if he was up; she didn’t want him to worry. She’d wait until she was off the clock to text him. Though they’d already asked her to be on-call when she went home, and she stupidly agreed. Darcy’s dark curls were pulled back in a mostly neat bun, her dark blue scrubs quite the contrast to her white coat as she snuck down into a chair, her pager being placed on the table before her as she took another drink of the hot, slightly burnt coffee. Her lips twisting in a slight frown. Tag: Jasmine Fisher Notes: Just give me a nudge if you’d like me to modify anything!

"Another nightmare?" Jasmine asked into her phone as she walked down the long hall to the elevator. "Okay, would you put her on the phone?" She waited as she climbed into the elevator then let a small smile cross her lips. "Hi baby...I know honey, but mommy will be home in a few hours...You wanna sleep in my bed?...That's fine," her voice was softer, filled with more warmth that she normally saved for her patients, and more importantly her kids. She checked over the ipad in her hand to look over the changes on the patients on her floor. Making sure they were getting the medications they needed and seeing who was moved to one of the rooms she took care of as she headed down to the cafeteria to grab a quick bite to eat.
"Ask JoJo to read you Goodnight Moon then I'll read as many books as you want tomorrow, okay?...Alright baby, I love you. Remember your deep breaths." She headed into the cafeteria finding other doctors and nurses there getting coffee or eating their own meals for their shift. "I'm sorry you got woken up again, sweetie," Jasmine said as her oldest son was put back on the phone. "Thank you...I love you," with a soft sigh she hung up. Guilt gnawing at her heart knowing exactly why her daughter had been having these nightmares but having no idea how to fix them. She placed her phone back in her pocket and rubbed her eyes with the heels of her hands. She could feel a headache coming on. The dull pounding in the back of her head, she should probably get some water. But she knew she was going to grab a Dr. Pepper.
She stopped to grab a tray to add on two slices of pizza, a fruit cup, and a Dr. Pepper before she moved to go sit down. Until her eyes landed on a familiar face. "Darcy?" She called as she approached her. Jasmine had noticed that there'd been a recent change to one of her rooms adding in a new name for a boy. She'd been pretty sure she'd seen his parents in that room as well when she'd passed by. "I saw that you moved the Ramzi boy onto my floor, is he going to be staying there the rest of the time?"
Jasmine hated bouncing people around too much, especially kids. Having to stay in a hospital was already stressful enough without constantly being thrown into new surroundings. "I just want to make sure I can add his medications to my morning girls rotations."

Despite the poor quality coffee, Darcy wasn’t in any hurry to get up from the chair she was seated in. One thing no one talked about prior to her pursuing a career path as a surgeon, was just how much standing you’d do. It was likely why she enjoyed hobbies that encouraged her the endurance in her leg muscles. Rock climbing and hiking. A half smile pulled to her lips at the thought, she hadn’t been rock climbing in over a year, maybe she needed to see about some of those indoor climbing centers, since she wasn’t likely to plan an actual trio for a climb anytime soon. Not with her current profession. Her only profession. She couldn’t imagine she’d be useful to the Guild otherwise, and that was an intimidating thought.
Thankfully, Darcy was torn from her rather depressing train of thought by a familiar voice. Glancing up, she offered a raised brow with a slight “Hmmm?” as her brown eyes took in the face of the redhead. Jasmine. She gave a half nod as she motioned for her to take a seat since she was clearly about to eat.
“Oh, yes! He’s there to stay, sorry about the mix up. ” Darcy offered an apologetic smile. While she wasn’t typically one of the overly chatty doctors, she also knew Jasmine from school events. In fact, she might even go as far as to suggest that Ellis and Jasmine’s second oldest son, Johnathan, were close friends. “The system was lagging earlier and we couldn’t get his room updated properly. Well,” She shook her head with a chuckle. “Either that or it was just the iPad I had.”
It wouldn’t be the first, or last time the computerized system gave them any issues. She finished off the last of her coffee and set the empty cup before her. “How’s Johnathan feeling about the upcoming meet? El swears she’s not nervous, but I think she is a bit worried about her part in the relay race.”
