[attr="class","sixShpost"] This was supposed to be a fairly small event. Well, small by Gemma's standards. Just a couple of friends and family and maybe a few of their dates if they decided to bring them. Gemma always loved a good birthday bash. Especially for her birthday. The one day out of the year she actually spent thinking about herself and what she wanted as opposed to taking care of everyone else. She'd rented out the full top floor of one of the tallest skyscrapers in the city. Or, more accurately, her daddy had rented it out for her. It over looked all of los Eurosia and when you stared down everything just looked like little blinking stars. [break][break]

Of course she'd invited Dane and Grace, though she wasn't sure if they'd actually come. And she'd invited Dino - Ashley - as well but she was even less certain he would come. Not that she blamed him. There'd be more than a few Hunters from the Guild at the party since that's who she'd spent most of her time with since she was a child. Rabbit, Wolfhound, Robin, and more than a few others. But she'd made one very important, VERY distinct rule for all the Hunters coming. No hunting at her party. Especially once she realized that more than just the people she invited were showing up. If anyone was going the be the focus at her party it was going to be Gemma. Not an assignment. [break][break]

Everyone was required to dress up in costume for the party. And it had to be a real costume. Not just a stupid pin that said "This is my costume" or something plain like a paper bag with a face drawn on in sharpie. There had to be some effort put in. There was a full kitchen staff, a menu for people to select from to eat, servers dressed up as zombies, an open bar, a DJ, a big dance floor, and a stage set up for Gemma to have a costume contest. Balloons everywhere. Confetti cannons. String lights. Security for if anyone decided to act a fool. It was all perfect. And Gemma just wanted one night where she could just focus on what she wanted and having fun. Though she wasn't sure how well that would work if the three most important people in her life weren't there. [break][break]

Still, she dressed up to the nines. A vampire queen with her long brown hair all pulled up into a nice bun with intricate braids that looped back to it. A custom made crown her mom had gotten her for her birthday with real rubies and obsidian stones embedded in it. Custom vampire fangs that fit snugly to her teeth and would allow her to eat and drink all night without falling out. A long flowing black dress that hugged her body like a second skin and flowed like water down to the floor. With slits up either side that reached her hips. An open back while the front wrapped around her neck and left an slit panel open to reveal her mid drift as well.[break][break]

Gemma was glad California didn't have very cold Autumn months. She'd actually gotten much longer and sharper nails just for this event. Black nails that almost seemed more like sharpened claws that tipped deep blood red. And deep red contacts to cover her normally warm brown eyes. There was already music playing as people began to file in. Gemma greeted a few of her friends as they rushed over, gifts in hand, with excited squeals. She laughed excitedly as she hugged them and one of the bouncers came to take the presents to a room further in the back of the main building. Gemma wasn't going to open her presents in front of what appeared to be well over a hundred people. [break][break]

She did check her phone once again though. To see if she'd gotten a text back from her sister or Dane or even Ashley. She'd gotten Dane and Ashley's gifts already. The roses sat proudly in a crystal vase in her livingroom with the little memory box already filled with pictures she'd had with her of the four of them together. She'd even taken to sleeping the silly Mean Ghouls shirt Dane had gotten her. She sent Dane and Grace another text telling them she'd really like it if they showed up. But she didn't message Ashley again. [break][break]

She already understood if he really didn't want to come and had told him as much. There would be a lot of Hunters at her party. A lot of people who might recognize him and even with her No Hunting rule in place that wouldn't stop something happening if he got caught. Still, she really wanted to see him.

[Nicholas Acker Villin]

Acker’s family was friends with the birthday girl’s family, so his mother had forced him to make an appearance. While his mother was mingling around, he was trying to keep a low profile. He was Gifted, so he had had to face a Hunter or two. Though Hunters didn’t reveal Gifted status to the public to avoid panic and interference, Acker would still have to defend himself if one of the Hunters at the party decided to attack him. What excuse would he say to his family? Info circulated in Hunters’ circles, but perhaps the Hunters at this party didn’t know about him. He would have liked to check the area just to make sure that no familiar Hunter’s face was around, but he couldn’t do that otherwise he would have raised some eyebrows.

There were too many people, the music was annoying and he couldn’t even use his powers to change the tune. Also, he had to wear a costume. He didn’t like wasting time like this, so he had put on a quick costume: he was dressed up like Dr. Frankenstein, his favourite mad scientist.

His mother had already wished happy birthday to Gemma, so he couldn’t avoid it anylonger. He let out a sigh, it wasn’t about Gemma, he just didn’t like socialising, usually his assistant would deal with these kinds of things. He was about to walk towards her when his eyes fell on an older woman. An anger that had been asleep since his teenager years suddenly woke up. That old woman was someone the youngsters would call a Karen. A flashback about that Karen entering the shop he had worked at as a teenager, and having to manage the costumer’s troll-like behaviour. Thankfully, his powers hadn’t manifested yet, otherwise his life would have been way different.

A flickering light next to him raised some eyes, and he had to take a deep breath to calm his power. It seemed that there weren’t only Hunters to worry about tonight. Better get a move on, the earlier he could leave the better. He finally approached Gemma with a smile that had been inculcated in his mind by etiquette lessons. If his father hadn’t become friends with Gemma’s father during a business trip then he could have avoided all of this. Thankfully, he was the black sheep of his family, no one else had powers, so he didn’t need to worry about his father unless the Hunters decided to use his family as a sort of bargaining chip.

“Happy birthday Gemma” and then he said something positive about the party. He didn’t say anything about any present, marcifully his mother had taken care of that.

[attr="class","sixShpost"] The party was in full swing now. People chatting, drinking, eating, and dancing. More than a few people had come to wish her a happy birthday and chat for a bit. Luckily most of the people that attempted to talk to her Gemma recognized. Even if she wasn't exactly on friendly terms with all of them. There were a few complete strangers who came to wish her a happy birthday. To which she'd mostly offered a smile and a small thanks before she moved on. Already there were two people who needed to be escorted out by security. Some couple that had decided to bring their personal drama to the party and caused a ruckus. [break][break]

Among the faces that Gemma recognized was the Villin family. Not that she knew them very well personally. Nicholas Acker was ten years her senior and they hadn't exactly run in the same social groups. But she knew them well enough that seeing them at the party wasn't a surprise. She'd already spoken a bit with Ms. Villin. Mostly of how she'd grown since the last time they saw each other, how lovely of a young woman she'd turned into. Most of which Gemma offered a polite smile and laughed a bit before she moved on. [break][break]

Only to then run into Acker himself. Gemma looked up at him with that same polite smile on her red painted lips. "Mr. Acker! It's always a pleasure to see you," she exclaimed after he wished her a happy birthday. "I'm digging the Frankenstein costume. Where's your monster?"

[Nicholas Acker Villin]

“My god. No it isn’t. Can I leave now? Maybe through an open window” Acker thought when Gemma spoke. He could recognise that smile on her face with his eyes closed, it was the same smile Acker had been taught to do at etiquette classes when he had been a child. He felt a kind of connection now, after all Gemma probably wanted to be with her friends instead of spending time with an older man she barely knew. And Acker wanted to be with his creations. He had had to leave Zeus and Apollo behind.

“Japan. Business trip” Acker’s ‘monster’ was his assistant. The assistant was almost never around, having to deal with the more social aspect of the job. He was the only person Acker trusted. Actually, it was probably the only friend that he had among all humans. Although, Acker wouldn’t even admit that they were friends, just colleagues.

As if on cue, Acker’s phone beeped “Excuse me, I have to check this” it was a message from his assistant telling him that the meeting had been a success. Of course, Acker wouldn’t have expected anything less from him. The messaged continued with saying that his business rival had almost stole the Japanese businessmen away. Acker couldn’t help it and said something under his breath annoyed “Sorry” he said to Gemma while putting the phone away. If his mother had seen him checking the phone then he would have been in trouble.

Meanwhile, a Detective had joined the party. She had to use her credentials to gain access, but she didn’t have much of a choice. Her vision had been clear about what was going to happen at the party. She had to stop it. Gemma was in danger. Even though Amy had hidden the Detective badge to avoid raising panic, she still didn’t fit the theme of the night. Everyone was in costume. She was wearing a white shirt with a black overcoat, jeans and combat boots. She should have worn a trench coat and a hat and say that she was dressed as a Detective. There were people dressed in costumes in her vision, but she hadn’t had the time to change. So, she walked among the crowd, searching for the birthday girl.
