Maddie is a Los Eurosia native. She grew up moving from apartment to apartment in East End every few years. She and her brother, Mason, were raised by alcoholic parents who couldn't quite get their act together. As soon as she was old enough, she began working as a server, and that has sustained her enough to get her own apartment and make a decent life for herself in the East End. [break][break]

Maddie has power negation and power sensing. She sometimes feels like she doesn't have a useful power, nothing like her brother who has superhuman senses and reflexes. Since she doesn't have a power that would affect anyone who is not gifted, she easily blends in with humans.

Maddie is drawn to people who give off an air of power or confidence. Even though she doesn't like anyone telling her what to do, she still finds herself attracted to men who like to take control. She hates that it is her type, but keeps falling for the same kind of guy over and over, and then sabotaging the relationship if it starts to get too serious.[break][break]

She has also always had a crush on her brother's friend, but has never mentioned it to anyone. She feels like it is very cliché, but they were all very close growing up and she still sees him from time to time. She is almost certain that he sees her as a sister though, so she is mortified about him ever finding out. // The secret is out and Maddie and Tomas are on again, off again in complicated relationship. // Maddie and Tomas were on again off again for a while, but it seems pretty clear they are now just off. Mason grew up with his parents and his sister, Maddison, moving from apartment to apartment in East End. His parents were both alcoholics, and they didn't do well holding down a steady job and making sure rent was paid. When he was still in school, Mason would take his anger out on people around him. He and his best friend, Tomas, were the class bullies. During high school, something changed in Mason though. He realized he was taking his anger out on all the wrong people. The world wasn't at fault for the problems in his life. So he made some new goals for his life. [break][break]

Mason made it a goal to start helping people instead of being the problem. He made another goal to get out of East End, away from where he grew up. He desperately wanted his life to be different than his parents, and when he started working with the fire department, he realized that his goals were within reach. He thrived in the structured environment, and he never got bored because every day was a new challenge. His gifts were also well suited for the work he chose, and he could anticipate problems and needs before they arose at times. [break][break]

Now Mason lives in the Heights, in a modest house with 3 small bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Since his father's death, he had his mother move in with him so he can keep an eye on her. He helped her go through a rehab program, but he isn't one hundred percent sure if she has stopped drinking, but she at least seems stable now so he's willing to let it be. He also lives with his dog Max, and his mother helps taking care of Max when Mason is at work. [break][break]

Mason was recruited to Blackstorm after Tomas, his best friend, joined the cause. He strongly believes that the gifted should not have to hide, and that the rest of the population should consider themselves lucky that evolution has started to enhance humanity. He doesn't think Gifted are better than non-gifted, but he does think they deserve the same respect as everyone else. He knows that he was a punk when he was younger and used his abilities maliciously, but now he tries to use them to help people. He doesn't want to be seen as a monster, or to have to live in fear forever. He hasn't talked Maddie about Blackstorm, intentionally trying to keep her away from it. He knows that is sister is passionate and would follow him to the ends of the Earth, but he worries what would happen if she became a target, and he wants to keep her safe.

This is where the majority of the options are for Mason. There are coworkers that he would probably be decently good friends with. He would be friendly with most of the people who work in other stations or areas of emergency services (law enforcement and dispatch mostly) that he would encounter regularly. He may have met a few people who he keeps in touch with while on the job. He's still friends with Tomas, and they get together regularly. He would also be on good terms with the people he knows from Blackstorm.

Genie has only been in Los Eurosia for a couple years. She has a hard time making lasting connections with people who she isn't forced to interact with on a regular basis. It doesn't help that she works for a temp agency, so she bounces from business to business, filling in temporary openings. The position has some serious advantages for her, including ease of integrating into different businesses and easily missing work whenever she needs a couple days to recuperate. [break][break]

Genie is also a hunter. She wasn't born into the Guild, but she has been a member for about half of her lifetime now. She was taken by them when she was 13 years old, and they broke her down and shaped her into yet another tool at their disposal. Her father's example made it far too easy to be brainwashed into believing that gifted are inherently more evil than they are worth, with very limited exceptions.

--Not all bad: Genie has been taught that Gifted are inherently bad. It was easy to brainwash her, and through the people she's hunted no one has proven the notion wrong yet. Ethan has a lot to prove. To himself, to his family, and just generally to the world. His father and brother before him are both successful attorneys, and they work primarily with the guild. Ethan was never quite comfortable with the guild, especially not since discovering that he is gifted. He doesn't know too much about the organization, only that they exist and that they attack gifted individuals frequently. He knows that his father has an extreme prejudice against gifted, and he view this group as another extremist hate group. He knows enough to be afraid to openly cross them, but he has no idea the extent of their reach. Occasionally, he ends up defending some of their members in court or keeping them from actually going to court. [break][break]

While his work is aided by his gift of persuasion, Ethan is still a hard worker. He puts in the hours on research and has facts to back him up when he presents a case. He finds this makes it easier when it comes to persuading a jury or judge to do what he wants and either completely exonerate his client or let them off as easily as possible. He is a little more fast and lose when it comes to convincing cops to drop the charges before they get filed, but he uses that as a last resort, only when he doesn't think it'll come back to haunt him. After all, he's just asking a friend for a small favor, right? [break][break]

Outside of work, Ethan is generally pretty friendly, the life of the party, with a side of frat boy vibes. He had private school and elite education, and he thinks that he is right about everything. After all, it's rare he finds someone disagreeable with his opinions.

He's usually good until things start getting more serious, and then he will panic and abruptly end the relationship.

Emie is a 22 year old college senior. She lives in an apartment downtown with her 23 year old step brother, Liam, who is just finished college last year. She works part time teaching yoga classes at a local gym, and she throws herself headfirst into life. She is the first person to volunteer to go along when someone wants to do something that's probably stupid. She doesn't think a lot about the consequences, or planning for the future. She thinks life is too short to waste time worrying and planning. [break][break]

She has a large family. Her dad, stepmom, stepbrother, little brother and little sister are all in Los Eurosia. Her stepsister moved to LA recently, but makes frequent trips back. They all get along, and she's close with her dad. Emie's mother and twin brother died in a car accident seven years ago, she was in the car with them. She doesn't talk about them much, and she went through a lot of therapy to get past the accident. Because of this, she isn't fond of thunderstorms, and she doesn't like driving. She does drive, but she's nervous and a terrible driver. If she can convince someone else to take the keys then she does. [break][break]

Emie is gifted, she has accelerated healing. Her mom always wanted it to be kept a secret, so she tries her best not to reveal her gift, but there are times when it's more difficult than others to hide it. If she gets a small paper cut, it'll start healing immediately. The larger the injury, the longer it takes to heal. Broken bones that would take weeks to heal normally only take a matter of days for her. Even with trying to keep her gift under wraps, Emie is still likely to be a little reckless. You want to try parkour? She's your girl, she'll be right there with you. Random DDR competition? Sure, she'll be your partner. Jump off the bridge into the canal? You got it. Keg stand with a very questionable spotter? Absolutely.

Emie is super friendly, somewhat of a tomboy, and a bit of a wild child. She will try to be friends with literally anyone who will sit and talk to her. She is into video games, some sports, competitive cheerleading, yoga, playing D&D (though she is the most chaotic person to play with), and horror movies marathons. She'll get dressed up and have a night out partying as quickly as she'll throw on a pair of sweat pants and a t-shirt, and bring the popcorn for a movie night in. She knows it's a problem, and she's working on it in therapy.

Seth grew up in New Haven, CT. She had a magical childhood, two parents who loved her very much (and still do, though she has very limited contact with them now). Her father is a professor of mythology at Yale, and her mother is a botanist. They worry about her, and she misses them, but she knows it's safer if they don’t know exactly where she is. Seth ran away from home when she was 18 with her boyfriend, Jason. Jason taught her about being gifted and how it was risky. She believed him, but she didn’t know how serious it was until the hunters attacked his family. His sister Jenna, who was a friend of Seth’s, went missing. Shortly after that, both of his parents were found deceased in their home. Jason said he had to go before they got him too, and Seth went with him. [break][break]

For two years, they traveled across the US together, stopping at different cities and camping or staying in motels along the way. About a year ago, Jason went missing on the way to Los Eurosia, and Seth was attacked but got away. She continued on, and now she pretty much lives in the national forest, staying in motels when the weather is too bad to stay outdoors. [break][break]

Seth has just about lost any faith that Jason is still alive, but she’s still in Los Eurosia because she doesn’t know where else to go. She wasn’t the one who made the plans, that was Jason. He was everything to her, and she’s lost without him. She spends her days now mostly just hiking through the forest, or going into town to scout around and search for any sign of him. She knows it probably isn’t allowed, but she made a little garden patch in the forest near where she camps and grows fruits and vegetables, and she fishes to get protein in her diet. She isn’t opposed to a little thievery now and then, though if she’s really desperate for cash she can contact her parents and they will wire her money without question.

Seth is very standoffish and skittish. She has a hard time trusting people she doesn’t know, and she sees danger around every corner. HOWEVER, if someone is able to get close and she doesn’t feel like they are a threat, she’s vibrant and adventurous. She’d be likely to go for hikes, beach trips, pretty much anything outside. She is very naive about most things, and doesn’t have as much life experience as someone who’s been running from hunters for the past 3 years normally would. She relied a lot on Jason, so now she’s figuring it out for herself. Any ideas, feel free to throw them out there!

Number one antagonistic relationship would be with hunters. She’s terrified that she’s being hunted. She is suspicious of anyone who takes an interest in her gift, assuming right off the bat they are a hunter.

He was supposed to be headed to Los Eurosia with her, but he disappeared on the way. Nate was in New York City. He still owns a house there, but he hasn't lived there since he was nine years old, when his parents died. He moved in with his older sister Nadia in Sandy Valley, Nevada. She lived in an intentional community (Harmony) that she helped found with her boyfriend, his brother, and a handful of other like-minded people. Harmony became family, and when Nate thinks about going home, it's to Harmony and Nadia, not to New York. Though, he does visit the family he still has in New York from time to time, especially his cousin Jess who lives in he's parent's house and upkeeps it, since Nate can't bring himself to sell the home or live in it himself. Hello hello! Apologies in advance if this post is a mess, I typed it up quickly because I need to run out for lunch in a sec lmao. If you’re not into any of these scenario ideas or only want to do one or two that’s completely fine! Equally, if you have different ideas I’d love to hear them c:


Maddison Lancaster & Noah St Cloud

Noah is a recruiter for Blackstorm and has the ability to temporarily borrow other people’s gifts after they’re used on him. I’m thinking that maybe they could meet at Maddison’s workplace with Maddison being his server, maybe at a late hour so the place is relatively empty. Maddison could sense Noah is gifted and by doing so she’d make him able to borrow that ability, and he’d be like ‘huh?? What’s this??’ Not quite understanding what gift he suddenly has or why he has a weird feeling about his server. Meanwhile Maddison suddenly can’t feel that he’s gifted anymore so they’re interacting with each other all confused like what the heckie is going on lol

Maybe they could figure it out together. And since Noah is always trying to track down gifted (to recruit to Blackstorm and to use for his own means), her power sensing ability would undoubtedly be something Noah would be interested in borrowing more than once. Though, if Maddison distrusts his intentions or doesn’t like being ‘robbed’ of her gift she could then use her power negation on him, ruining his plans. He’d have to try to win her over and gain her trust.


Maddison Lancaster & Evening Cadieux

Eve has precognition and (weak) telepathy. She's into romance stories and likes to think she’s a bit of a matchmaker, so if she were to learn of Maddie’s crush on Tomas she would probably try to meddle. Perhaps Maddison could wander into Eve’s witchcraft store (maybe with Tomas with her?) and Eve could overhear her thoughts. She could offer her/them a tarot reading, expecting the results to suggest they’ll get together, and then the reading could either a) confirm a romance and make things awkward for Maddie and Tomas or b) deny a romance and make things awkward for everyone involved.

Also, if Eve overhears that Maddison knows she's gifted, she'll immediately assume Maddison is also a 'witch' and want to be friends.


Maddison Lancaster & Grace Gatsby

Grace is a hunter and a bit of a loose cannon, so it would probably be for the best if Maddie didn’t reveal that she’s gifted (unless you want Madddie to get hunted lol - we could go for that route too). Grace is a bit of a spoiled rich girl and I could see her getting bored and being like… ‘I’ve got a free afternoon, maybe I could take that random server girl out shopping and give her a makeover’ :3

Noah and Maddie

I love this idea. If she sensed him being gifted and then suddenly couldn't sense him being gifted anymore, she would probably be so confused. I can absolutely see her being extremely wary of him right off the bat. I also have to wonder, since they both have power negation, would they be able to negate the other's ability to negate their power? It could be really fun to figure that out.


Evening and Maddie

Mason is actually Maddie's brother, but she does have a long standing crush on his best friend, Tomas. You know, forbidden dangling fruit and all. Maddie would be mortified of someone realizing it, and I think that would be great to explore. I really don't know if they'll actually ever date or not, so either scenario of a tarot reading would be so much fun to play out.

Maddie would also be open to making a friendship, which would be especially funny with someone who could call her on her bullshit when she is being stubborn or obstinate to hide the fact that she's insecure or anxious about something.


Grace and Maddie

Oh man. This one could get interesting and complex. It seems like they are sort of opposites, which is always fun to throw together and cause drama. She does have an interest in fashion, even though she didn't get to explore it much so a makeover hangout would be right up her alley. I'm not opposed to her being hunted either. I already know that her biggest point there would be 'hey, it's not like I'm even a threat to anyone who isn't gifted'.

Noah’s negation works hand in hand with his mimicry, so the negation only works when he’s borrowing someone’s gift and he can’t turn off someone’s power whenever he feels like it. Therefore I’m thinking Maddie’s negation abilities would trump his? He wouldn’t be able to borrow/negate her negation because her negation would have already turned off his borrowing, I guess x3

So, if you’re not familiar with my girl Felicity; she’s having issues with her ability (Electrokinesis). Due to some metal blocks in place to protect her from a ten month period of memories, she’s starting to have some severe ‘glitches’ with her ability. If you’re up for it, I think it would be fun to have Maddison and Felicity interact, and if Maddison were to maybe witness Felicity struggling to control her sability and help her by negating her electrokinesis. Felicity would find Maddison and her ability absolutely amazing! Which might make her seem a bit odd or ridiculous to Maddison. And I’m not sure how Maddison would take to Felicity once she finds out she’s an alcoholic, considering her mother’s struggles and past.

I’m just calling it now: Felicity has a huge crush on him. Which is odd, she doesn’t ‘do’ crushes. She’s very progressive when it comes to relationships and has always viewed herself as polyamorous. Whether or not Noah notices or anything is completely up to you. He might not like the fact that Felicity is an alcoholic. Who knows? My brain’s a bit shot at this hour so I feel like I’m rambling lol

I had definitely been thinking about getting these two together already! Maddie would absolutely try help Felicity and negate her out of ability. The alcoholism wouldn't be as big of a deal as it seems like it might be, honestly. Maddie's issue with her mom isn't just that she's an alcoholic, it's more that she put the bottle over her kids. If Felicity had a baby at home that she was neglecting, that's when Maddie would have a big issue with it. Maddie is pretty much a borderline/functioning alcoholic herself anyway. She justifies it by not generally keeping booze in her apartment, she goes out to get drunk.

Mason is oblivious, so until she is direct with him or someone else points it out, he probably won't even realize and he'll just think she's a nice shop owner. Mason would have more of an issue with the alcoholism than Maddie would, but he would be the kind of person to get a call at 2am and crawl out of bed to come help. He has always been the one to try to take care of the people he cares about, and he doesn't give up on them. If she breaks through into that sphere with him, he'd try to be supportive and keep the judgement to a minimum. Besides, he's totally used to getting woken up in the middle of the night all the time anyway.

Mason Lancaster & Christian Savino

Hey hey hey! I know I still owe you a Tawny/Mason starter, but she's being stubborn. So, in the meantime, let me throw this new guy at you and see what you think.

Christian also grew up in Los Eurosia. Though he and Mason probably weren't close enough in age to really know one another growing up. However, it's very likely that Mason is familiar with some of Christian's family! His father was a firefighter captain (now retired) and two of his brothers are paramedics/firefighters. Maybe in the same firehouse as Mason? All three of them were Gifted (enhanced strength and resistances to heat as well as healing/regeneration), which I'm sure Mason could have caught onto, since he too is used to doing the occasional miraculous feat. So perhaps Mason is somewhat familiar with the Savino family?

If you're okay with that, perhaps we can throw Christian and Mason together for something? One possible idea I had is that maybe Miranda relapses? Dives off the deep-end for some reason and gets the cops called on her somewhere public? And instead of bringing her in, Christian decides to kinda be a little gentler/understanding and reaches out to Mason to have him come get her instead? Or maybe she just MIA's one day and Mason enlists Christian (maybe through his brothers) to help look for her? Driving around town in Christian's patrol car, looking for her.

If you don't like that though, we can come up with something else. With Christian being a cop and Mason being a firefighter, I'm sure there's plenty of reasons for them to end up in the same scene. Be it a hectic, emergency scene or maybe a quieter, more relaxed thing like a big bar get-together where there's a lot of firefighters, paramedics, cops, etc. Or, if Mason is particularly friendly with any of the Savinos, he (or he and Maddison both?) could even get roped into a family get-together and find Christian trying to hide/dodge his nosy aunts and cousins.

Christian Savino and Mason Lancaster

So I was super hype about this when I read Christian's app! I'm am down to having Mason know his brothers and father for sure. I can see them training together and coming to the realization that they don't have to walk on eggshells with each other and just go all out when no one else is around. I can also see in my head cannon, Papa Savino encouraging Mason when he first started working for the fire department and getting him to fully embrace it. I feel like they would all get along pretty well. Depending on the older brother's ages, Mason might have gone to school with them. But he was so angry and fighty all the time, who knows if they would have really crossed paths more than just being classmates.

I love the Miranda having trouble that falls on Mason to deal with. She is absolutely still drinking, but trying to hide it. She could fall off in a big way one night and just lose her shit somewhere in town, have the cops called and bam, there they sit. Mason would be grateful that Christian called him.

I also like the ideas about bar get togethers and just hanging out in groups. Mason does go out with his coworkers frequently, and he'd feel like the Savino brothers would be able to tell when he shouldn't be driving or was past his limit, so he'd feel better about hanging out with them. I'd also be down to throwing Mason (and possibly Maddie) into a family situation and helping Christian hide out from his more nosy family.

TLDR (since I think I'm rambling at this point): It all sounds great. I'm definitely down for the Miranda stuff, but any of the other ideas would work great as well.

Wew, forewarning this reply is a probably a mess. I'm about to go lay down and catch a few hours of sleep lolol.

Yes! I really do love the idea of Mason paling around with Christian's older brothers and the way you described both the dynamic between him and the brothers, as well as the father, sounds perf! The ones who became medics/firefighters are his middle brothers, so I imagine they're right around Mason's age. I will likely flesh them out a bit at some point (like I've done my other character's family/NPCs), but it's far from a priority and they can be treated very much like any other NPC. So, if you want to mention them at all when we thread, feel absolutely free to add whatever spins ya want lolol. Other than their professions and their basic "invincible-feeling dudes with big hearts (who can probably still be assholes/douches on occasion)" feel, they're open slates.

I think Christian would likely see Mason as just another dudes-dude. He was never really invited into that kind of thing (the roughhouse brawling/training type of buddy-buddying) among them so he'd probably initially set himself aside a bit with a "this is a friend of my brothers, not mine" sort of line of thinking. Or feel a sort of (somewhat self-imposed) nerd/jock divide. So I'm kinda thinking... even if Mason is somewhat familiar with the Savino family, that he and Christian never really attempted to feel each other out at all?

But Christian knows him well enough at least, to want to give him a call when he's come across his mother and her little mess. Maybe we can start there and see what comes of it? Entertain the possibility of big bar celebrations and other ideas after we see how they come out of the Miranda-biz?

If you're down, would you like to start or me? And do you have any particular ideas about what you'd like Miranda to get up to? I'm imagining the thread beginning with Sav responding to a call about her, finding her, and then reaching out to Mason (unless you have another idea instead). But I also wouldn't want to assume or control her too much without your permission lol.

Mason does put off dude-bro energy, so it makes a lot of sense that him and Christian wouldn't have kicked back together and really gotten to know each other up to now. Mason wouldn't even think about Christian viewing them all sort of othered, he'd just assume that he was more reserved than his older brothers. Mason would have been happy for him when he joined the police force though, and if his brothers made any comments about being concerned about him not being tough enough or whatever, Mason would solidly be the guy to say don't underestimate him just cause he's the baby of the family (not realizing the concern was more cause he isn't gifted rather than him just being the baby brother).

So, Miranda is a lot. When she's sober, she's judgmental and kind of bitchy. She gets really argumentative and has a mean streak when she's wasted. She is likely to get into a screaming match with someone, maybe an employee refusing to serve her another drink since she's clearly had too much? I'm cool with you moving her and using her like an NPC as much as you want, btw. I could start with the NPC's - Miranda's bullshit and then Sav getting the call from dispatch. Or if you'd rather start with Sav I'm good either way.

If Maddie looks for fault in people, then Sebastian will be an easy target. They are similar in age but not in lifestyle, although Sebastian won’t care much about that. Sebastian is often cruel or uncaring on a surface level and I can see maybe frenemies vibes – I can see Sebastian flirting with her and also being a total arsehole and I can see her not giving a crap and calling him out on stuff. He could also attempt to use his powers on her for a silly game and she would easily negate them

Mason & Sebastian

Im not sure these two would get on at all. Sebastian is a man that enjoys vices and has very little care for anyone but himself. If they interacted at all it would be because Sebastian started a fire out of boredom or fun and then be casual about and not care.

Ethan & Sebastian

I can see these two having flirty/romantic liaisons that mean very little. If Ethan is concerned about accidentally persuading his romantic partners into things, then he could maybe be a little more relaxed with Sebastian because there isn’t much the man wouldn’t do, even without accidental gifted persuasion potential. I can see it being very fun and flirty and casual. Unless you have other ideas.
